This was by far the worst take out chinese food I've ever had. The pupu platter was over cooked and tough. The Sesame chicken and General Zhou chicken was all batter and so over cooked you could hardly eat it. We did have wonton and hot and sour soups that were acceptable. We ended up putting most of the 40.00 meal in the trash. read more

To my knowledge this is the only chinese place in Geneseo. As per if you want chinese food, this is it. I ordered an egg roll and general tso chicken. It was made quick (about 10 minutes or so). When I got home to eat it I was surprised that it was a bit cold (like a 5 min walk home, so not a long time). It was also blandish, but it looked good. The egg roll tasted good, and was warm. Overall the food was meh. Verdict: Main Moon is a place to get cheap Chinese food late night. Their portions are very good I didn't need to eat until about 24 hours later, and all it cost was $10. I'd recommend this if you need alot of food cheap, or once in a while if you are in the mood. read more

It is what it is. I used to frequent Main Moon a ton in my college days in the early 2000's. If you go in not expecting much it's serviceable. Don't expect top notch Chinese food. By no means horrible but far from the best. The way I see it: beggars can't be choosers. For a cheap college town Chinese takeout it's par for the course. read more

Geneseo is in the middle of no where so if you want Chinese food delivered hot and fast, this is pretty much your only choice. There's another buffet place up the street but half the time you order from there, they just take old food from the buffet and bring it to you so, you're better off sticking to this place. It took my stomach about a month to get used to this place, but hey I can say that about half the places up here. They take credit cards, but to my dismay not AMEX. The delivery guy also has never heard the concept of knocking. I swear, if your door is locked he will try to break in before he even thinks about the doorbell. Probably a combination of the Asian no knocking culture/wasted unresponsive college kids. Don't call after 11, they're sleeping and you feel guilty about waking them up. read more

This is the only place that you can get some chinese food in Geneseo other than the Shanghai buffet, which I heard could give you some pretty good time in the bathroom. I've frequented Main Moon when I was craving chinese food or needed some soup to be warm or was just hungry. I'm not sure if their meat dishes are particularly good and their sauces are definitely different from the takeout from New York City. I've pinned down what I really like to eat there. The sauce that is good is garlic sauce. I like broccoli in garlic sauce with tofu. Sometimes if I need meat, I go for chicken. I remember beef is not a good choice. Their pork fried dumplings are good most of the time. Their vegetable dumpling fried or steamed are disgusting. Don't eat their fried wontons or else you'll die the next day. :P read more

Honestly, don't bother with this place. The inside of the restaurant is grubby and unappetizing. The family working behind the counter and where the food was prepared were fighting with each other and just generally unprofessional. The food was below mediocre. If you're in need of a quick Chinese fix, this is the place to go. They even have free on-campus delivery for Geneseo students! As a vegetarian I've only tried their veggie dishes but I'm sure their meat dishes are just as good!! Their General Tso's tofu and Sesame bean curd are absolutely delicious. And their value for money is pretty decent too. Their veggie egg rolls are not that great, and not something that I'd recommend. I also wish they had veggie options for the buns. read more

Back at school, we had a little song. The tune was variable, but the words always ran pretty similarly: "Main Moon makes me s*** / and Shanghai is much better!" I mean, after four years of a place, you get to know it pretty well. And I know very well that every time I couldn't make it out to Shanghai and settled for Main Moon, I regretted it something fierce. I'll not include too many details, but know that the sweet and sour chicken is a greasy monstrosity, the rice tends towards the raw, and the lo mein is all that musters for passable. This is cheap Chinese food made fast. The inside looks just like any other Chinese place where you order at the counter. Sure it's bare bones and there's a bit of duct tape here and there and the fluorescent lighting hurts a little, but it's clean. I like that they offer brown rice and a wide range of veggie and bean curd/tofu options, such as general tofu, sesame tofu, mei fun, and moo shoo, along with the usual fare, but they go a little light on the sauce and seasoning for my taste. Some of my tofu in the bean curd and broccoli dish was completely free of any sauce. Still, It's good in a pinch. read more

I like their egg rolls too. Their delivery is always really fast, and like I said, it's inexpensive. They definitely don't skimp on portion sizes, either. I've been eating here since I was 5 or 6. Hands down the best Chinese place within a 50 mile radius in my opinion. I always get the sesame chicken and chicken rice combo, with a side of vegetable lo mein. Sweet and sour chicken is amazing as well. Always large chuncks of white meat chicken with enough sauce for every bite. They don't skimp on the rice either. I usually don't eat in I order online and pick it up. There aren't much better offerings in the immediate area, but that doesn't excuse pretty gross food and a dirty, broken looking restaurant. I really, really wanted to like this place because they have a few more vegetarian options than Chinese takeout places in the neighboring towns, but sadly the food was either terribly bland, poorly prepared, greasy, or otherwise unappetizing. Not a fan. Everything that's supposed to be tender is crunchy and everything that's supposed to be crunchy is tender. Except the egg rolls which are some of the best I've had. No complaints about service. I see them delivering on campus all the time. read more

The food is good, and I enjoy the house special veg soup - quart size, but this place closes early and on my delivery job / route, I would rush there to be there on time before they close and voila - closed ! I cannot give them the best rating but I will say it is nice for a Chinese Restaurant to offer a rest room, in a college town, to patrons ! I have eaten here about 5 times and in those times I would usually order something for around $5 to $8 and mix and match wings with soup and with 2 egg rolls etc. I like to pick and choose and sometimes I am not all that hungry late at night. Its my prerogative to do so and I would always pay cash. One time I heard a snide comment from the male cook/cashier about the way I was ordering (simple stuff) and I thought it was a bit out of line for him to insult a customer. We called and ordered a substantial amount of food for a delivery and the restaurant said there would be no problem. Twenty minutes later they called me and said they had never heard of our street and couldn't deliver, and told us we could only get our food if we picked it up. Because we had already paid for our food with a credit card, we did so. When we arrived, they did not apologize for going back on their promise to deliver or make any efforts to remedy their mistake. The restaurant itself was very sketchy looking and the food was pretty bad (how do you mess up General Tso's?). This was a pretty bad experience from start to finish and needless to say I won't be back. read more

The food is very good and the portions are large. The hot and sour soup, egg rolls, fried meat dumplings, kung pao chicken and sesame chicken are our favorites. The family that runs the restaurant works very hard and fast. We always get take out and it is ready in 10 minutes every time. We have gone there as long as they have been open. Try it! read more
