As you can imagine, the idea of Red Hot & Ladylike - a studio where you can classes on cabaret jazz, burlesque, go-go, and hip hop dancing - makes me very nervous especially since their motto is "bringing sexy back one lady at a time." The idea of touching myself, letting my hair down, and being seductive makes me wanna cringe... until I met MissE, the perfect person to run this kind of place. She's outgoing, she's empowered and empowering, she's encouraging, she's all accepting, and I couldn't think of a better person to help women find their inner diva, goddess, and all around badass self. I've taken several classes here now and it's always the same: 1. Sign up for the class. 2. Immediately regret it - I can't dance. I don't do sexy. What the hell was I thinking? 3. Show up and feel the warm sunshine that is MissE's personality. 4. Dance (awkwardly), have a ridiculous amount of fun, and get excited to try it again someday. Doesn't matter if you can or can't dance, doesn't matter if you're a woman or a man, doesn't matter if you're already leading with your vagina or not (this makes more sense when you take class with her)... this is fun, fun, fun even when it's uncomfortably (for me) hot, hot, hot. Good for one off experiences, good for getting a unique and different work-out in, good for meeting new open-minded and friendly people, good for bachelorette parties, and good for spicing up your romantic life (she does a "Bring Your Human Prop to Class" that I'd definitely do again!).

Added bonus, this class actually really helped my lackluster dance moves. Miss E is hilarious and totally knew how to handle rowdy bachelorette girls and made sure to offered to take videos and pics of us as well. Sidenote: as a feminist who's taken the occasional Women's Studies class, I was impressed at Miss E's emphasis on empowerment and being inclusive. Very safe, accepting space.

When we arrived we were greeted and welcomed! Then we were escorted to the gathering room. This area is where we waited until the doors to the theater opened. They had a very nice concession table set up with lots of goodies to purchase. The theater was comfortable and not a bad seat in the house. Everyone was so welcoming and to my surprise when the show was over the theater staff were at the exit door saying goodbye and hoping to see us again! We will definitely be back! It was so nice to see live theater again! If you get a chance to read about the Schoolhouse Art Center, please do. They made it threw 2020 and can use all our help to keep this theater thriving.

My daughter loves going to dance and shows me the new moves she's learned on a regular basis. Her teacher is wonderful with the kids and they all get a little parting gift at the end of each class (sticker, small toy, valentines, candy etc..). She become friends with other girls who attend as well. This is her 2nd year, and as long as she continues to enjoy it, we will keep coming back! P.S. The show seemed to be dominated by the owner's kids. The first thing I noticed was the room was extremely small with very low ceilings. There was a ton of kids in the class and the floor has a large warp in it. The teacher was extremely enthusiastic but the owner was super pushy and not genuine at all. I couldn't imagine sitting there in a cramped waiting room with him every week. I suggest Sharon Lux in Arundal.

We were not made to feel welcome as we entered the 2nd week. The teacher made no effort to get down on their level, encourage, or speak to them, yet told me the class was too big so I had to go wait outside, which made them both cry and follow me out. So we wasted a bunch of money on a very disappointing experience. If your child is special needs or shy look elsewhere because there isn't any support, which is shocking for a 3 & 4 year old class.

Melissa Willey, the owner and one of the teachers, is amazing. Not only is she a very skilled dancer, but she is a fabulous teacher. Her attitude is consistently positive and upbeat, even when a student is struggling to learn a new move, or when students act up a bit. She greets every student by name, and fosters a supportive, loving environment in the studio. We've been impressed by all of the teachers - they clearly enjoy dance, and they are dedicated to conveying their love of the art to their students. Even though we have moved twice since our daughter started at Scarborough Dance, she REFUSES to even consider going to a different dance studio!

You can clearly see the stage and the instrument sounds filled the venue beautifully. The volunteers were so nice and definitely have a pep in their step. There many of them, there to greet and bring you to the general area of your seats. I say general area, because one actually brought us to the opposite end of the row were were seated. It's ok, we were there early and just walked back around. She apologized, when she saw us walking back the other way. As expected with older venues - there are a lot of stairs to traverse if you are in the balcony - this your warning. Drinks and restrooms are not available at every level, so make sure you plan accordingly. Parking is separate and it's not a bad walk - just wear comfortable shoes, so you don't twist your ankle. Security was friendly - expect the metal detectors, wanding, emptying of pockets and searching of bags. Typical for most venues. We look forward to our next show this year!

It's a beautiful facility built into the middle school and they did a nice job. The seats and acoustics were good and I'd definitely go back. The middle school in Biddeford has a similarly beautiful but underused facility and it's nice to see the Westbrook Performing Arts Center being used for concerts. Tip: When you park, back into the space so it's easy to get out after the show.
