Ordered grinder platters for a party and was very happy with how they came. I appreciated the sandwiches having all the toppings rather than slowing down the line for people to top them themselves. Only note I have is that I couldn't access a catering menu online, so I wasn't sure of the pricing of what we ordered until we picked it up to pay. We ordered the Hot Lobster Roll and Fish and Chips. The lobster was very fresh. I don't think they gave you enough lobster in the roll, it was small. But, the bun was toasted perfectly, with a great crunch. It was buttered perfect, the butter with the lobster meat is so delicious. Overall it was a good roll, but I would try the cold lobster roll next just for comparison! The fish and chips were delicious too! The fish was fresh and had a light batter on it. We were in the mood for a lobster roll, and Mainley Seafood and Deli was only a few minutes away. Though they had a 3.5 star Yelp rating, we decided to check it out, as a seafood place would probably be able to make a good lobster roll. I was somewhat wary as I arrived at their modest facade, but I've been to many local places that lacked aesthetic charm, yet provided great fare. When I walked in, the place seemed to be very dark and very basic. However, since this was a takeout order, I was still game. Unfortunately, I immediately noticed that neither the counter person nor the cook was wearing a mask. And, the one patron who was ahead of me wasn't wearing a mask either. This struck me as foolish, and odd, since I thought Connecticut had a mandatory face mask rule. That said, with the huge surge in COVID-19 cases, I would hope all restaurateurs would make sure their staff was wearing masks and helping ensure they were providing the safest possible environment for patrons. So I promptly departed, and after passing on another Putnam sandwich shop in which the cook also wasn't wearing a mask, we finally arrived at at Renee's Working Girl Catering. Kudos to Renee's Working Girl Catering staff for wearing masks and providing a 5-star lunch. read more

This is my go to EVERYTIME I'm in town. When I come from NYC my friends know where I want to go, and asap. I need that fish and chips box, not tray, BOX, of that crusted flavorful fish, and the super crispy calamari, full order like it's a side. There's a choice of several sauces to use, cocktail, tartar and of course ketchup, but you end up enjoy the food itself so much that the add one don't even exist. Now I hate to admit I've yet to have anything else because I love the fish and chips and calamari that much, BUT I did catch my boy get his salmon burger on. This was a different side of their usual, it was a huge whopping burger over a pile of fries, but the salmon itself was very carefully made and delicately put together, treated like a salmon and not a burger. Been twice now - once in June and folks were adapting to COVID. Went mid afternoon - 3 other people inside - and waited a long time to be helped. Absolute disorganization. Friendly but picture restaurant musical chairs as everyone plays who is doing what... we forgave masks down under nose etc and enjoyed the good food. Second visit - ok, hygiene is a PROBLEM. We're not prudes but not a mask or glove anywhere to be seen (despite state mandate). Thought about calling health department. Counter and food prep staff, unmasked, no gloves, cycle between cash register, cooking food, slicing TUNA (bare handed), handling cash and doing errands without even washing hands. Raw tuna slapped down and sliced bare handed on unwashed center island next to grinders headed to customers. Food was still good (whole bellies were small though) - we would love to go back but even COVID aside, may not be willing to sacrifice health. No kidding aside, might be the poorest hygiene we have ever seen in food service ever. read more

I had an odd experience at Mainely Seafood. I walked in around 12:30 on Monday July 31st. There was only one customer, who appeared to be waiting for her order, and a man behind the counter slicing meat. I stood there about 2 minutes and he never looked up from what he was doing nor spoke to me. Normally I would speak up but the whole setting was surreal. I walked out. I've wanted to write a review of this surprisingly good restaurant. We generally order subs and take them out but we've eaten seafood in a couple of times, too. The subs are made to order, generously stuffed and nicely priced. During the summer a rare week goes by that we don't have at least one. The seafood is well done, too. We had great seafood meals here, too, and talking with the people working there about where they get their seafood from is great, too. Now the actual restaurant isn't much to look at but it's clean enough to eat in. It's very popular with the locals, too, which should tell you something. read more

Chowder was flavorful and clammy tasting, but a little thin with very few bits of clam (if they minced up a few more of those quahogs and threw them in?). Mainly seafood and deli is a place where I've been a few times to get fresh seafood for home and I've always been satisfied with the food that's been given me but I also know if I am unsatisfied with something if I speak up and say something you get a better product or they do well by you just recently I bought a ham grinder this is the first time I've done their deli and I was so pleasantly surprised at how much meat they packed into that grinder there had to be a half a pound or a pound of ham I have never had such a good grinder in my life having one from them I will definitely go back and get more grinders from them totally amazing and I am so happy thank you for providing good service and a great food read more

I got some swordfish here that was very good. The fella who sold it to me had a pistol strapped to his side. It makes me think that maybe this isn't such a safe place to be buying fish...and it is down by the river. If I had a pistol I would probably pack it but since i don't I will have to depend on my trusty lockblade if I ever need to venture down there again...but I have never seen a pistol packin clerk at the local grocery stores. Great value and best lobster rolls anywhere!

I went in recently to purchase some cherrystones. When i walked in there was a guy slicing meat that never looked at me, said hello, nothing. A simple, hi someone will be with you in a minute would have sufficed. He just kept slicing away. It was a solid 5 minutes before someone came out to help. I was leary because the cherrystones were sitting on the counter but they turned out to be ok. Not the cleanest looking place around for sure. They need to work on customer service and being a little more friendly. I don't know if I would go back. read more

I was excited to try this place out the first time but I was heavily disappointed. When I walked in the place seem very dirty and there was a dog on the floor. I love dogs and I thought he was really cute but it's not appropriate for a restaurant. We ordered steamers and they were absolutely inedible. All there was to them was sand. I was really disappointed because we walked out of there as hungry as we came in. I told my boyfriend to complain to the cooks but all he told them was that they were inedible and didn't ask for a refund. Never going here again read more
