I had our chimney swept by one of A&L Parry's employees a few months ago. During this service, I…read morerequested a certificate as proof of the work carried out but the gentelman did not have one on him and said that certificates are issued by the office. To summarise, after several months of ongoing communication I was informed that their policy was to issue certificates only if asked by the customer ON THE DAY. From an ethical standpoint, I believe that they should automatically offer such certificates without the client needing to request them. Many people may not be aware that, in the event of a fire, their insurance will be invalidated without such a certificate.Upon conducting further research, I discovered that chimney sweeping is not a regulated industry; however, any association of chimney sweeps in the UK (of which A&L Parry is not a member) considers the issuance of such certificates as a mandatory part of their conduct.

I contacted this company to clean the gutters at the back of my house & Sandtex (supplied) the…read moregable end of my house. Not a huge job - but if he preferred not to do it, I'd rather he had said. Said he would come the following week - but it rained all week, so being reasonable, we did not expect him. But he did not phone us. The next week I phoned him & said that I understood that he probably had a backlog, and he said that he would do it the following week. That week - heard nothing by Thursday, so I phoned him & he said that it was about a "2 hour job" & he would be there tomorrow (Friday) & that he would phone me. The next day I had not heard from him by 11.45, so I phoned him. He denied saying that he had said he would phone me & said that he had asked me to phone him !! Then he said he would be there by 2 p.m. The yard at the back had been cleared of obstacles to make it easy for him. He did not arrive & has not phoned. We are in our mid 70's & tend to look after our workmen, supplying drinks & snacks & a few extra £'s on top if the job is done well..... so his loss.
