The Pont St Etienne was Limoges' second bridge and was built in the 13th century to relieve…read morepressure on the older Pont St Martial. It was on a major Pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella in Spain, called the 'Via Lemovicencis'. It was also used as a route to the washerwomen who used the right bank of the river to wash the townspeople's clothes until the early 20th century. Now it is a preserved historical monument and is pedestrianised.
