I have gone to Makami along with my family, co-workers and friends. In total 11 or so. They promised a $3000 SCHOLARSHIP for each one of us when I was there consulting. I asked if we can get the scholarship right away but they said it is better to get it at the second year to save with the tuition at the end. We reluctantly agreed. Now, after over 7 months since the graduation. (not all graduated but many did) and NO ONE received the $3000 scholarship they promised. They are now saying the scholarship is paid only to a full graduates. They should have said that at the beginning but failed to do so. And even then as I said even the graduates did not receive the amount. read more

I love coming here for a hot stone massage. To say it feels blissful is an understatement - you can literally feel the stress and toxins leaving your body. Although it's a time consuming process (the front desk make you fill out a host of paperwork) to actually get as far as your massage, it's still well worth it. The students are also incredibly professional, and ask you what temperature you'd like things at, if there's a certain body area you're really looking for help with, etc. etc. They also make a point of checking to see if you're still comfortable when you're left alone to let the stones work their magic. Despite being a school, everyone gets a private cubicle with plenty of sheets, and with the lights lowered and relaxing music playing, it really does feel spa-like. Better yet, at only $35 a massage, it means you can afford to go as often as you'd like! read more

Want to post a review that supports Sergey R's posting and add to it. Positives, yes, the quality of education is fairly good, although disorganized to a great extent. The do offer flexibility in hours which is useful but you need to be clear that it is therapists, many only slightly more senior than yourself, who are doing the instruction. Negatives. Well, it is clear that they do not honour their commitments. Wife enrolled in first year as a single mother but found she could not afford the considerable tuition and decided to leave. The owners pushed very hard for her to come back on the premise that about half of the tuition paid by student loan could be repaid by government programme that they had access to, which made it affordable and competitive, so she stayed in the college. Over the course of the year, she repeatedly tried to get confirmation that the government assistance was going to be there, and was repeatedly assured that all was well and just go back to class. Upon completion of the second year, she was not given her certificate as Makami said that she had not paid her tuition, having apparently messed up the student loan and the alleged government single mother assistance. After 2 years, we finally engaged a lawyer to write a letter and attempt to negotiate a settlement for roughly the amount the wife expected to pay and was completely stonewalled with the response being that wife was "trying to get an education for free" even though first year was fully paid for as well as part of second year. As an educator, Makami is probably Ok although there are other schools, but do not believe a word the owners say, insist on all things in writing in advance and realize that they may deny your certificate. read more

I am a graduate of Makami college and all I want is to post an honest review about Makami College. The previous one on google they removed, evidently by paying google so I want to see what happens now. I actually gave them 2 stars on google initially, but they lost a star for not listening. First of all kudos for Pavkovich family for creating a 27 million dollar business. I believe it allowed them to live a really good life. Now to the details. Lets go over pros. 1. Great massage education. For now potentially the best, however did not check the other schools carefully. Besides, they constantly promoting their teachers, and the ones who teach now probably yesterday's students. So the quality obviously declined. 2. Convenient hours. The schooling is only 2 days, so you can even work while studying. Opposed to MRU for example, where people have to study 5 days a week full time it is a great gig. Now cons: 1. First of all the market is not ready for it. Most of the Makami's graduates end up doing B class massage in some B level spa for 25$/hr. Nothing similar to schools promo of 50$/ hr or whatever. Even home base businesses cannot charge today more than 50$. Which brings us to the problem #2. 2. Too much competition! With the heavy promotion of easy buck Makami flooded the market with desperate massage therapists. Most of them end up unemployed and quit trying. Only 20% of Makami's graduates will find a job. 3. No integrity. Makami's mission is everything for a student. In reality it should state "everything for Pavkovich". The principle of the school is a pathological liar, I even never heard him telling a truth. Most of Makami's promotional claims are a false ads. Example: great money- no, easy job- no, you can work in US - no, the school has a high completion rate -not really. 4. Overpriced tuition 27,000$. Right now I am paying 400$/m for the Student aid to cover my student loan. Imaging paying this amount, while making very little money or no job at all. 5. Males usually find it hard to find a job. Especially in today's economy. If people do not know you, they would not even let you in their house. For females all those things are usually easier. From another side, females usually get injured and quit working after 3 years. To top it up with boring massages in B level spa, sexual harassment etc. many females with give up the career pretty soon, ending up with 40,000$ of student loan. About 10% of students at Makami will never even start with massage career, but they will own 40 k anyway. read more

I've been working with various students all year, and i can honestly say they have given me part of my life back. My chronic migraines and chronic pain from a previous injury has held me back from being able to accomplish so much. But since I've been coming weekly it has changed the "chronic" to not as often. The cherry on top is affordability, as I could never have been able to afford the amount of visits i have had here in one year with or without my benefits. I have learnt a lot about my injury and pains too, which helps me improve my health all around. Big Fan! So grateful. read more

So...I'm currently a second year student at MaKami in Calgary. And this journey here has been a living hell!!! They are constantaly changing our exam dates, preventing us from graduating on dates we were informed about sooner. Many times they have lost assignments, projects and are constantaly implementing new rules that they create on the spot. When I started here I was informed that I could have help with finding work a place to live the whole 9 yards, little did I know...they did not care what so ever about me, not one person helped me when I asked for assistance. This school is a huge money grab!!! Do your self a favour go to Mt royal! The teaching staff at MaKami in Calgary are lovely but, the politics of this institution make ones mind explode. Love this career choice but absolutely do not recommend this school. read more
