The interior is decked out in stylish woods and deep red walls, with authentic musical instruments from the Middle East dotted around the place. The tone is stylish and grown-up, which is why the restaurant is popular with everybody - private diners, large parties and corporate events. For my hubby and I, Kismet was the perfect setting for a romantic meal for two. I went for the Chicken Tikka Balti, which positively sizzled as it was delivered to our table. At just under £7 I found this to be really reasonable and I paid an extra £1 so I could get my hands on some lovely mushrooms. What a great evening, I only wish Kismet were closer to my home. The service was great, their fully licensed bar satisfied our needs and we came out wishing we hadn't driven. I've said it once, but I'll say it again, you'll struggle to find anywhere else this sophisticated outside of the city centre.

Karma Restaurant is on a stretch of the Stratford Road in Shirley, Solihull, that is so densely…read morepacked with competing eateries (particularly Indian curry houses) that it really needed to do something to capture my attention and draw me away from neighbouring businesses such as the Ashiana and Darjeeling Indian Cuisine. It did so (possibly inadvertently) by eschewing the mantra of curry houses all over the city (and the UK) that when it comes to menus, bigger is better. I've become so used to seeing curry menus with quite literally hundreds of different combinations of sauces, sides, and fillings, that seeing such a relatively small menu at the Karma restaurant immediately drew me in, as I have a general rule that if a restaurant has a small menu, then they will presumably have a lot of experience cooking the same few dishes, and therefore will be able to replicate them at a higher level of quality than a chef who cooks five dishes he's never had to before every single night, and Karma proved my theory right and then some. Their prices are in fitting with the area, with mains generally ranging from around £6.50 - £9 for eat in, and a couple of pounds less for takeaway. The interior appears slightly bare and lacking in character (if you're wanting more in this department, check out the similarly excellent Darjeeling Indian just a few doors down), but don't let that put you off, Karma Restaurant is one of the best of Birmingham's famed curry houses that I've visited.

I believe there is an upstairs dining room as well, but I haven't been sat up there yet. I have tried a few Indian restaurants since moving to Brum and Imlees is the only one I really like. I've dined here 3 times now and we are always greeted at the door. The restaurant is not licensed so you can take in your own beer/wine/etc. Across the street are two shops in case you get thirsty and forget to bring your own. The menu seems to have a good variety; lots of starters to choose from and a page and a half of mains. The poppadoms always taste fresh. There are 3 different dips served with the poppadoms. There is an onion chutney, a spicy red dip, and a mint dip. I'm still new to Indian food so I'm not the best with my descriptions. For this visit, I tried chicken tikka for a starter and Bagaara chicken for a main. The chicken dishes were both flavourful! The Bagaara was a tad too spicy for me. I usually choose Butter chicken (which is fantastic) but decided to be a bit more adventurous this visit. In between the starter and main you are served sorbet to cleanse the palate. We also had some delicious naan and pilau rice. As far as price, Imlees is quite affordable. It offers take out too if you aren't up for formal dining. Anyone finding themselves hungry in Moseley should give them a try!

Anyway on first impressions it has a very luxurious facade which cajoled me in as though 3 wishes awaited me inside. It is a very slick restaurant and they do a very good job of representing this with their exterior, this impression was only supported by their staff who were incredibly attentive and friendly. Somehow it feels as though Imlees has been part of Moseley for years, it has a very established feeling to it and they seem to have acquired a very loyal customer base despite being one of the newer restaurants on the parade. The food was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I had to compare their chicken korma with a my catalogue of previously consumed chicken kormas, and I must say I think it was the best one I've had. Imlees provides an impeccable dining experience, so be kind to yourself and go there.

A nice array of magazines to read while you wait or if I'm feeling organised I sometimes phone up before I leave and it's usually ready by the time I get there. Always piping hot which is superb because re-heating Indian takeaway will condemn your microwave for several days. If you are close by or even if you don't mind a short drive I would highly recommend this - you won't be disappointed. Also - a colleague of mine is a big Indian food lover and he always goes to the cinnamon tree for his Indian takeaways and swears by it!

The decor is very modern, service is good, the menu is extensive (i mean extensive - lots of chef's specials) and the food superb. Cost is very reasonable - a meal for 5 with starters, mains, sides, poppadoms and drinks (a mixture of alcoholic and non alcoholic) came to £133 so less than £30 each. This has quickly become a Go To place for those of us living on the south-west side of the city and it beats the curry houses in Stirchley hands down. They also do a Sunday buffet for £9.95 per person - havent been to that so cant comment on it though!
