The best card shop in town. And if you need a little silly gift, to go with your card, this is your place. I love it!

Earlier this summer, they sold pots of rosemary, mint and tomatoes. Now, they have clusters of the most divine looking red and green chillis. Even better, they look the perfect size pot for my wee patio garden. If you want to buy me some more as a surprise, Gunns offer home delivery for plants as well as bouquets!

I also often buy irises from them and they always last well. The façade of the shop is incredible, painted dark green with vines and flowers twisting around the building and large yellow lettering announcing the shop's presence- you really can't miss them, the gorgeous and exotic looking flowers spill out on to the pavement and grab your attention as you wander by. Even if you're not planning to buy, it is well worth a look, as many of the plants and flowers on offer are simply breathtaking. The vivid pinks and oranges of some of the petals make me feel as if I've been transported to a Hawaiian rain forest! Gunns will arrange a bouquet to your specifications on the spot and will also take orders over the phone and guarantee same day delivery!

There are nice florists about. But none, I think, as nice as this. She as a knack for making things extra pretty and totally different to any other flower arrangements I've seen. They feel personal, don't ask me how! Just go see for yourself. My favourite little idea and one I can never resist buying, is a gorgeous little jam jar full of the prettiest little flowers for £4.95 roughly. Perfect for little appreciation gifts (I always get my ma one - and myself I can't lie!). I love the fact my boy is so taken with this shop too, he really believes pixies live here. And he likes the 'magic roses'. They also cater for all occasions weddings, funerals - all the usual! If anyone ever pops the question to me (no chance!) I shall be definitely getting my flowers from here.

Housed in a tiny shop opposite Cologne & Cotton in Chapel Square, it's a colourful shop with a vast array of sunflowers, tulips, lillies, roses and birds of paradise outside. Prices seem a little steeper than other florists in the city but the flowers always seem incredibly fresh so are maybe worth the extra pounds and pennies.

Due to their shared name, I've always assumed this shop was the sister store of the large Gunns florist on Sydney St. However, they seem to have separate websites and admittedly the shop facades are pretty different. This Gunns is much smaller than the North Lanes one and has a much more conservative exterior (no painted flowers winding up the building!). So, I think weirdly enough, they are in fact different companies...but why the same name...it's a mystery. If anyone knows, do tell! Regardless, the flowers at little Gunns are just as beautiful. There is nothing boring bout their blooms...the colours are vibrant, the shapes unusual and exotic and the scents divine. As you may have gathered, most of the flowers are not native to these shores- so if you're sick of boring old carnations and roses, you will surely be able to get an original, personalised bouquet at Gunns. Like most good florists, you will pay a pretty penny, but I can promise you will get your money's worth. As well as bouquets they do beautiful arrangements for weddings and funerals.
