The set up for the ride was absolutely beautiful. The helpers were wonderful. They explained how to handle the horses thoroughly . Had a great time on my birthday with my family. Thank u

Absolutely loved my experience with Malibu Riders! The horses are gorgeous, I got to ride an Arabian and it felt amazing. Our tour guide, Scout, was fantastic, super friendly, explained everything perfectly, and even took stunning pictures for us to remember the ride. The trails were peaceful and breathtaking, the perfect way to connect with nature and enjoy California's beautiful views. It was honestly one of the best experiences I've had. One thing I especially appreciated was the freedom they give riders, you can choose to ride without a helmet (at your own responsibility, of course), which made the ride feel even more natural and liberating. I'll definitely be coming back every chance I get. I highly recommend Malibu Riders to anyone who loves horses, nature, and a bit of adventure!

Excellent horseback riding experience. From Los Angeles an easy car drive and you are there in short time. The horse guide, Houston, was the best from the friendly greetings, giving directions, to helping get on the horse, wonderful trial ride, and the farewell. Houston was knowledgeable about the horse riding and the trial area and he gave us some history of the area. Overall, excellent experience and we were planning our next trial ride before this ride even ended. We smiled every second of the trial ride. Loved that Houston made us feel safe and secure with the horses. 10 STARS

    Getting ready!!!!

This was an incredible experience. My husband is in the Navy and we are leaving in June to go back to Virginia. We wanted to top off our 3 years here with a beautiful ride and also celebrate my birthday. The guides were exceptional, the horses were amazing, the views were spectacular, and we loved every second of it. Would highly recommend this experience for anyone who loves nature and the scenery and wants to really appreciate the beauty that Southern California has to offer!!!!

We had an unforgettable horseback ride with our guide, Chris. During the tour, a MASSIVE decayed tree branch suddenly fell on her and her horse - a total freak accident. Even though she was the one banged up and nearly had very serious injuries and her horse ran off terrified (she eventually got him to come back!). Chris stayed calm, checked on all of us, and made sure the ride continued safely and fun. What amazed me most was that she still kept the experience fun, lighthearted, and even took group photos afterward. Her professionalism, toughness, and genuine care turned what could have been a scary moment into a memorable day. Chris is truly exceptional in every single way.

Alexia was absolutely incredible as a trail guide. We were given very clear and thorough instructions on how to ride, paired with our horses, and enjoyed breathtaking vistas and the pure joy of [literally] riding into the sunset. I didn't even know it was a dream come true, but here I am, eager to figure out when I will be able to ride again because it was so enjoyable!

Such an awesome experience! Sierra was an amazing leader, made everything so easy, light and fun. This was my first experience riding trail and at least 10yrs since the last time I ride a horse. 100% recommended and have already recommended to everyone I know. The trail is magical, the horses are beautiful, healthy and very well behaved.

Ask the Community - Malibu Riders

I see some group photos without helmets, can photos be taken without helmets on?

They want you to keep helmets on at all times. It's probably a safety/liability thing. Sorry no cowboy hats

    Do you supply helmets?

Yes we have great helmets :)

Is it possible to allow a group of 9?

Hi there ! Unfortunately we currently take up to group of 8 but can accommodate larger groups for events. Give the office a call at 8185102245

Is this hore back riding on the beach?

No. It is not on the beach. Some trails include views of the ocean but you do not ride along the ocean. They are excellent at what they do. Had a wonderful trail ride through the state park.

    Are helmets required?

When I went, no they were not.

Is there someone taking professional photos while you ride? Or take some photos for the horse riders? Some ranches offer a Photogtspher who is there the entire ride capturing pics.

There wasn't when we were there, but our guide was very sweet and took pictures on her cell phone and air dropped them to us at the end of the ride!

How much is the recommended tip?

Recommend is 20%. Thanks for asking!

Do they allow you to gallop and run it or is it walking only?

Walking mostly! Definitely no running maybe an occasional gallop depending on which ride you do. I did Zuma Canyon very beautiful highly recommended

    Is there a weight limit?

Yes, for Paramount Ranch it is 250 lbs and for Zuma Canyon, it is 215 lbs.

Is there an age limit for kids? And what would you recommend if it's a child's first experience with riding a horse and they'd like a little more time to get accustomed?

Yes, kids have to be a least 8.

I saw your company out while I was hiking today. I was excited and so miss horseback riding. I was wondering if you take riders to some open places that allow for some cantering? Or is it just walking/trotting the whole time? Thank you!

It was walking and trotting. You pretty much follow the trail and enjoy the views! Hope that helps!

Did anybody do the Ocean View ride already ? I'd be interested in doing that.

Have not done it. Only familiar with paramount ranch so sorry

Do you offer English riding as well?

Hi Melissa, Thank you for your interest in Malibu Riders! We offer Western only.

From the moment we arrived, everything felt calm and welcoming. Our guide, Sienna, was incredibly thorough in walking us through the basics and made sure we felt comfortable before heading out. As total beginners, safety was my biggest concern; but she has such a steady, reassuring energy that we felt confident the entire ride. The trail itself was breathtaking. Rolling Malibu mountains, wide open skies, and those views that make you stop mid-sentence. Sienna even paused at the most scenic spots to help us take photos, which I really appreciated. The horses had different personalities, I got a very calm horse and my husband's horse kept stopping along the way to snack on the bushes :) It was funny but I'm glad Sienna chose an easier one for me. Overall the whole experience felt thoughtfully run from start to finish. Small tip: You'll lose cell reception on the drive in and out of the mountains, so make sure you have your next destination's address saved or mapped ahead of time. If you're considering trying horseback riding, especially for the first time, this is such a special place to do it. We're already planning our return!

I initially found Diane when I wanted to learn to jump for the collegiate equestrian team. She teaches jumping from a dressage point of view, so the rider learns how to be secure in their seat and communication with the horse, as opposed to just going along for the ride. In two summers I went from never jumping in my life to being able to safely jump 4 ft. fences and be comfortable on almost any horse. I am now riding dressage with Diane and I have learned more in a few years riding with her than I have in over a decade with other trainers. Her teaching style is very straightforward and honest, and she knows when to push forward, when to change tactics, and when to step back, which is so rare in any type of instruction. Diane is truly a world class instructor and trainer, if you are looking for a place to ride don't hesitate to call her!

As I'm an animal lover as well, I always hesitated as most ranches I went to seemed to not have happy horses. Had more aggressive methods of working with the horses. At Twenty Nine Oaks that is NOT the case. Immediately we were met by Wyatt who runs the ranch and was taking us out on our ride. He has the best energy, is so warm and truly loves his animals. We got paired with our horse and were able to connect with them before riding. I had Mijo (the best guy) and my boyfriend had Tank (a beautiful, regal horse). Brushing them, learning to clean their shoes, and learning about the saddle process. We got a quick lesson to build a stronger bond with our horse and when we were ready, we were off for the ride. We went out for a little over an hour (as we were running late but were not rushed even in the slightest bit) and it was just the most beautiful ride. Through the mountain side, lush flowers and so quiet and tranquil. Wyatt chatted with us on a personal level, gave us some funny stories, gave us history on the horses and more. It felt like we were on a ride with an old friend and we were just catching up. Beyond thankful for the magic we had during this experience. Was a great closer to the weekend. We look forward to going back not only to ride, but to enjoy some good conversation with Wyatt. A MUST DO!

An hour before I was supposed to arrive, while I was already on the road, I got a call cancelling my reservation due to smoke in the area. I understand there are liability concerns with air quality, so I'm not faulting the decision to cancel - but everything after that was a mess. On that same call, when she asked, I said I'd like a refund. Two weeks went by with no refund and no follow-up, so I called them. Their voicemail instructed me to leave a text message, which I did. Nothing. I texted again the next day. Still nothing. After three days of trying to reach someone about my own money, she finally picked up - and started yelling at me. It got worse from there. After that last call, she sent me nasty text messages and basically blamed me for not leaving my number. If reaching me was the problem, why not just call back or reach out politely? Instead of a simple, professional follow-up, I got hostility. Cancelling for safety is one thing. Ignoring a customer for two weeks, forcing them to chase a refund across multiple calls and texts, and then yelling and sending rude messages when they finally get through is completely unprofessional. I'd think twice before booking here.
