This place is great for take out or a quick, delicious eat-in meal. It's basically an authentic, better in every way Chipotle. PRO: really flavorful burrito! Personal experience showed me that the shrimp, pork, and steak burritos are all fantastic. There is a large variety of proteins, which can be made into tacos, tortas, salads, or fajitas. The service is quick and friendly, and the shop seems to be very clean. Cons: nothing, really! This is the spot for homemade, fresh and healthy Mexican. I got a veggie burrito. They have white flour tortillas and also whole wheat wraps from Aladdin bakeries. They also have vegetable and fruit juices and smoothies--very reasonably priced. The burrito could have used a bit more flavor, but they just opened and it's a promising start (i may also not be used to the whole wheat wrap which kind of drowns out other flavors). The owners are a husband and wife who do the cooking--they asked how I might have liked it different--it's clear they are really open to customer feedback and providing excellent service. The different meat dishes look excellent and made me wish I were eating meat now. As far as the veggie buritto goes, I really liked the big pieces of sauteed onion and the garlic mushrooms. First things first, I would've given this place 3 stars, maybe even 4 if I was in a super-happy, ultra-generous mood, but for a pretty key reason (among other reasons I'll touch on) I didn't. I had been ordering from them for close to a year, as Mexican food spots were still pretty limited at the time (about 2-2.5 years ago), but since then Flatbush has been blessed with a mini-surge in Mexi places opening up. Ok, when I first started ordering from Mallenche Mexican Grill, they had a $1 fee for delivery, which is kind of annoying, but whatever, I looked past it. Then after almost a year of ordering delievery from them, they raised the delivery fee to $1.50. I'm may not be a rich man, and I may not be dirt poor, and it may sound piddly, but sorry, most places don't have delivery fees, so I felt kinda insulted/taken advantage of. For one thing, I don't really trust delivery fees too much because, in my opinion, the delivery fee should go to the delivery person, and it's not clear to me if it does, or if it's just the joint/owner trying to pad a little "innocent" dough to their profits and the delivery person doesn't see jack. In addition, I used to be in the service/hospitality industry and I know how people can stiff on tips, so I always tip fat, usually 22-25%. That I can safely assume goes right to the delivery person. So, in me wanting to take care of the delivery person for what can be an physically exhausting, underappreciated, and dangerous job, it sucked to see that I was going to pay even more for a delivery fee that goes who-knows-where. Besides that whole novel I wrote on the delivery fee and such, another reason for them getting this rating is that, at the time, it was one of the few places within delivery range that offered Mexican or Mexican-ish food, the other Mexi places were mostly groceries/delis that made food for take out. But, even before the bunk delivery fee increase, I had started to just brave whatever weather and distance there was to be had, bypass getting delivery from Mellenche, and just go to one of the Mexican groceries/delis. The reason being is that for all the convenience of being lazy, cozy, and having my food delivered, the food from Mallenche Mexican Grill is quasi-Mexican, well short of the taste of more traditional Mexican food that can now be found more easily around the neighborhood. They put lettuce in their burritos (what the hell is that about), they don't put pickled jalepenos on their tortas (which, by the way, are big on bread but little on meat), and their rice n beans (I ordered a side order of them a few times) taste like someone steamed a bag of instant rice in the microwave then cracked open a can of bottom shelf beans close to the expiration date, seriously, if you do order from this place and want some rice n beans on the side, do yourself a favor and just buy a box of Goya, can't go wrong there, tastes way better. Just so it doesn't seem like I'm just spittin venom, I can say that their tacos are good, so if you're a first-timer ordering from here go for the tacos, and expand from there. Anyway, my reviews always turn into ramblefests, so I'll just say that with this place things were good-ish/decent, then decent, then average, then mediocre, then why the hell am I spending money on this place when there's way better options around now. read more

Very affordable and accommodating spot in the neighborhood. Came in for a late lunch and got 2 tostadas and chips + guacamole. The chips were packaged, not very authentic - kind of reminded me of Tostitos or something. Guac, on the other hand, was oh so delicious. Perfection. Be aware that when you see pinto beans listed it means a squirt of liquid beans, which was a bit of a disappointment for all. They allow you to add toppings, though, so that made up for that. Had mushrooms, pico de gallo, cheese, lettuce, and all types of medium and mild salsas (which are totally ON POINT). Walked past this spot and decided to place an order for delivery. They have a nice selection of items on their menu and all of the usual Mexican staples burrito, tacos (hard/soft), cemitas, quesadillas can be found. The prices are very good for the amount of food I think. We ordered chipotle chicken quesadilla which I thought was pretty good. I enjoyed the taste of the chicken and the portion was just right for one person. I also had a side order of guacamole and chips which I was a little disappointed in because while the guacamole was excellent and fresh the chips looked like store brought tortilla circles. Hopefully they can fix that. We also ordered 4 tacos which were very good as well. Overall I would say the food is tasty and service for me was fairly quick. I am a huge taco/burrito fan hands down. At one point I think I was consuming about 10 tacos a week but my love for them started to drastically die down because I wasn't feeling it anymore. I needed a new place. Finally I found it! This place is in the cut, Hidden by the Bobby's department store and the Q train so it can easily go unnoticed but once inside you are greeted by friendly faces. They have so many different options of burritos and the food is cheap which to me is number one since nyc is a money drainer. They allow you to have samples, so you won't pick something you didn't like or think is too spicy and immediately regret getting it, which is also a huge plus. It is a great place to go if you want to get a quick bite. They move super quick and they pack that burrito to it's max so you can even share it with some one if you know you can't eat a huge burrito. It's not a fancy restaurant but it gets 5 stars because one it's clean, two the food is amaze balls, and three the server was super sweet, kind, and helpful which is everything you need. read more

HIS: I'm a huge Mexican food fan and tacos are my go-to so, I thought I should try out this place based on its reviews. The restaurant itself is pretty bland and not my favorite. Maybe 2 tables in a big open space where there is plenty of space for me. At first glance it looks like a Chipotle and the food sitting in the containers don't look so great. The menu is way bigger and like I said the reviews had me eager to try it out anyways. 2 Al Pastor tacos (sad how many Mexican spots don't have this in NY) and 1 Carnitas taco. Instead of them pulling from the containers they had the meat cooked fresh in the back. BIG PLUS. They also had homemade Horchata which I liked, not loved but liked enough to order again next time. The tacos were packed and delicious but I'll admit I was disappointed they had NO chips except for some bags of Lays you can buy for $1. The "hot" salsa was not hot at all in my opinion as well. Convenient, affordable and fresh ingredients - this place is a diamond in the rough in the neighborhood. The mushroom burrito with onions was delicious, as was the Salsa Picante.
