Had come for steak night but this location wasn't offering a steak night special. Delicious steaks with fries and grilled onion ring. Wish a veggie and baked potato came with the meal for the price. We went for a Friday evening meal in Malmaison. Malmaison is a really nice hotel/restaurant. The meal was very nice, be it the starters, the mains (and, yes, steak is a specialty), desserts or the wine. Service was also nice, but too rushed at the start with bread, wine and starters coming all at the same time. After that settled down (we made a comment) we had a lovely evening. read more

I had really good breakfast and dinners here. My favorite breakfast is the waffle with salmon and cream cheese. The waffle is more or a crispy pancake topped with salmon and side of cream cheese, and hot tea to drink. I was in heaven. For dinner they took pride in their 28 days aged beef from Aberdeenshire and that was delicious with pomme frites, paired with their house Cabernet. Life was good. That's the great thing of staying at this hotel, after my delicious meal, I just walked up to my room. Amazing food, the one star off was I wished they have amazing dessert. It was our first day in Scotland and Aberdeen. We were looking for something close to our hotel Atholl. While the service was a little slow the food was excellent. There were four of us and we started with the sharables. The Thai beef noodles were amazing. I'd highly recommend it! read more

Aberdeen so needs this place! I'm staying in the hotel and have just eaten a solo meal in the brasserie. The food was fairly good though I'd have liked my honey roast vegetables roasted a little bit more convincingly. Having said all that, breakfast the next door soothed my temper as it was as marvellous as a breakfast in malmaison always is. And fish in chips in the bar at lunchtime was pretty spectacular too. My room was gorgeous. Plenty space, lovely bathroom, cosy bed. A room that looks out onto a school playground slightly bizarrely - which made for an interesting afternoon working at my desk. And the rest of the hotel is indeed, as scotgirl says, stunning. Welcome to Aberdeen, malmaison! We salute you. read more

Good but not great. The decor of this place is done very nicely. Quite modern. We had dinner in the restaurant, which is in the back, not in the bar area. If you love red meat, this is the restaurant for you. If not, this is not the restaurant for you. Almost every choice on the menu is red meat. When we went there, we tried everything (a starter, main, side and dessert) and though it was good, I just don't think it was the best food out there for the price. My husband and I both walked away with more than stuffed bellies, so the portion sizes were generous. The atmosphere was wonderful and so was the service, I have just had better food elsewhere. read more

Came here for the first time today and will never be coming back again. First, my chicken was dry and overcooked. My sisters veggie burger was greasy and fell apart on her. The soup was basically steamed vegetables served in the water left over from being steamed. Food aside, there was barely anyone in the restaurant and the service was awful. We had to ask three times for water over the course of twenty minutes before more water was brought to the table and no one came in by to see how the food was or to ask if anyone wanted another drink. Lastly, a part of the kitchen is visible from the dining area, with a private room separating the kitchen and dining area. We were seated at a table with a perfect view to the kitchen. Not only did I see a chef pinch food off of paying customers plates, he also didn't wash his hands after eating them and continued to work with food. read more

This review refers to the restaurant and not the hotel rooms. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!! The hotel is simply stunning inside and the bar area was welcoming and sylish. Before you even get to the restaurant you will be in awe of the surroundings, everything is stylish and attractive. You walk over a glass corridor under which you can see their wine cellar. The restaurant is large, with high ceilings and stylish decor. There are 2 private rooms you can see into - one next to a large store room with all the locally sourced meat hanging! The style is locally sourced Scottish food cooked well. The oysters were delightful and better than I have had anywhere, however the star of the show was the steak, cooked beautifully and melt in the mouth - I challenge you to find better!!!! The service was attentive and friendly. The bill was as you would expect - £105 for 2 people, 2 courses, bottle of wine and coffees, but worth every penny. Can't wait to return! read more

Really!!!!Really!!!! Terrible!!! Not one of my group has a favorable opinion of this hotel. The beds are not just hard mattresses but sheets on cardboard. The hotel spent its money on things seen that make it appear pleasing but cut the money on the real things(guest comforts). I could not agree more with others in that the staff must be miserable here as they treat the guests terribly. A fair number of very nice waiters and staff but all in all not a comfortable place. I also agree with other comments, its really good but not great ! unlike its sister company Hotel Du Vin in Cambridge, it doesn't even come close. Aberdeen really needs a quality Restaurant but until then, this is as good as it gets. read more

The service and food at Mal has fallen drastically in the last 2-3 years. I don't know what's happened, if the chef has changed multiple times or if there is a high turn over in staff. The service is so so so so slow. Sometimes when it's not even busy. Once we sat down for dinner at 8pm, for starters at 9:30 and were still waiting for main dishes at 10:30pm! Without fail now the food comes out at different times so my friends were almost finished when someone else was just getting theirs. And there doesn't ever seem to be an explanation. The food in the brasserie can sometimes be good but not often enough. You expect the odd bad dish or bad day but the food has been regularly below par the last few visits I've had. I don't even opt to go to Mal myself unless I've been invited to an event or invited by friend for a precooked dinner. More often than not my friends end up complaining. I also can't say much about the bar food either. They used to a really delicious fish and chip dish in the bar. Now they've changed it to a fish sub in a dry bin and the fish is 100% frozen and no homemade. A staff member actually confirmed this for me. Such a shame because it used to be somewhere we loved to go, especially on a Sunday. Something needs to change. It's not somewhere I would choose to go now. read more

What a shocker! This place says yes to your booking and then treats you like dirt as soon as they've got your money. My work party were completely cheesed off when we were turfed out with 5 mins notice because another group had been booked for the same room and we had said we'dprobably be out by 6pm but had in no way promised to be gone and had bought more drinks. If we knew there was a time limit we would have gone somewhere else. Moved the party along the road to the Ducth Mill and spent the rest of our money there. Poor management and treatment from this well known brand. Our (large oil company) won't be booking there again, so just make sure you get clear agreement and confirmation of your requirements before you book and make sure that malmaison ensure the day staff tell the night staff of these agreements. Boo and 1 star for the decor but stars off for cost (extortionate even for Aberdeen), service (slow), staff attitude(unfriendly) and tolerance (zero!) of people drinking. read more
