With a name that is perhaps a "tad" too clever for it's own good, The Pawn Shop is the kind of gaming store that you wouldn't expect to find in rural areas. Yeah, you might be able to find them in places like Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Ames, Des Moines, Omaha, or Minneapolis... but what is the gamer to do when you live 2 hours away from any of those places? The Pawn Shop is the answer to this dilemma for gamers in Northwest Iowa and surrounding territories. It's run by two gentleman by the name of Kevin and Grant who, without a doubt, have a passion for games of all kinds and who want to provide a place for others to gather and play games. Their fees are more than fair for the services they provide, and are willing to go out of their way to find a game item you might be looking for - if they don't have it on hand. I had them order me a colossal Golem Arcana figurine awhile back, and unfortunately it arrived to them damaged. It took a bit of time, but they got it straightened out and replaced through their distributors. Sunday hours during my visit were 12-3, and whenever I choose to go, I always check when they're open. This time around, the 50% plus $1 area was brimming with clothing and in my size! I left with 2 nice University of Okoboji branded shirts and a comfortable Marmot jacket. I wandered the non-sale areas as well, as this place has always been an "at home" experience. The Iowa Great Lakes isn't San Francisco, but for this Iowa Boy, it's a World Away that is close enough. As such, you'll find me here every Summer with my Family in tow enjoying another Blue Water adventure. As for shopping, I start with my favourite galleries - Bogenrief Glass in Spencer and Art on 16th and A Piece of Work in Spirit Lake. Arnold's Park and the more touristy shopping at the Central Emporium and the Queens Court come later and are covered quickly. World's Away is a notable exception to the model. It's clothing, art, and antiques makes this store a classy island within this sometimes schlocky sea.
