This small town pizza parlor is like walking into the past. We came in around lunchtime on a cold Saturday. The woman working was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The service was excellent, we were greeted our table was wiped down despite it being clean. A thin,crisp crust where you could taste the fermentation. It had a nice balance of sauce and cheese. We ordered pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. The pepperoni was Ezzo Sausage's Old World pep, the sausage was sliced and flavorful, the mushrooms were fresh, not from a can. All great! The sauce held the pizza back though. It was tangy, spicy, and well balanced. It was made from tomato paste, or maybe Contidina sauce.. I cant really say what the problem is. To summarize: Great service, Great salad, Above average pizza! First time being here in several years. Pizza is just ok, it lacks decent flavor in its sauce. The crust had a nice crunch to it but not the best quality overall. We also had a salad that was great and lived up to the jumbo that the menu says. Our son had a Ham and Cheese sub and he seemed to like it well. The interior is quaint and the employees wiped the table often while we were there. On a weekend getaway, we found ourselves in beautiful Nelsonville, Ohio for the "Final Fridays on the Square" event, which included a historical reenactment, a performance by the local high school bands and choirs, and a stroll through some quaint galleries and shops. After all of the fun, we stopped by Mama Renie's Pizza for a bite. Located right on the square, this location has a prime spot for the fun and it appeared from watching the patrons come and go that it has a loyal following. While the pizza did take a bit of time to get to our table, it was worth the wait. We ordered a pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms and it came to us hot and delicious. I really like mama renies pizza and I have never had a bad one. The reason this establishment has earned a one star review from me is due to the fact that for the first time I decided to call in a pizza for delivery. Not only did the pizza never come, I could not get a single answer when I tried calling back 2 hours later (I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was a Friday night and I figured they were busy). According to their website they are open, but DO NOT TRUST the posted open hours. Was told by owner that 10 o'clock was closing time on Friday night. They were quick to take money out of my account, but seemed to forget about making any food in return. Ended up ordering pizza stop instead, never have had bad service (or pizza) and you actually get your food! For mama renies it is not a quality problem it's a customer service problem. read more

Stopped in to this cool little pizza joint with my family and another couple. Ordered up 3 pies and they were all delicious. Perfect crust, tasty sauce and quality cheese. Big menu with a lot to choose from. It's a small place with seating for maybe 15. The bakers were hustling on a Friday night and the owner/manager checked on us and was very hospitable. I am from out of town and I called to order a pizza. The guy that answered the phone was so rude and so obviously irritated. I was very polite when I was giving him the address for the delivery. He said to me "I don't know where that is bud!" Thats when the guy slammed the phone down to hang up on me. This pizza is outstanding. Its different from any pizza I've ever had before. I usually do not like thin crust, but theirs is so unique I love it. Ive had several different kinds and all have been great. Chicken Bacon Ranch was my favorite. I only gave it 4 stars because eating in isn't the greatest dining experience. We have always done carryout except the first time. The choices on the menu are quite extensive. I should try something else, but the pizza is so good I keep eating that. read more

I went here all the time while going to Hocking College. The place makes a mean pizza sub and for only around 4.50 (or at least used to be). Then 0.50 cents for a pop. So 5 bucks for an entire meal while living on a college budget was great. The place is always pretty empty. Which in my opinion is a plus. read more

One star for good pizza. No ice, no straws, no plates until we were half way through our pizza. They had door propped open and everyone standing outside smoking. Smoke drifting inside where we're eating. No lights to see your food. Ordered 2 pizzas and 1 didn't come out until the first was half gone meaning 2 people weren't able to eat yet. I have only had the subs and they are pretty good if you can withstand the grease. Fairly standard subs, 6 inches, with the typical condiments. The place itself is small, only a few tables and booths. It is on the square in Nelsonville, which was the location for the movie "Mischief", and other than that there is not much to recommend about Nelsonville. read more

We've had their pepperoni pizza, italian sub, and chef salad (no olives). I think the food is tasty, being that I follow a low carb high fat diet, I get the chef salad without dressing. I must say, it's way worth the price, not that it's expensive my any means. The salad reminds me of an italian sub but without the carbs of the bun. So win win for me! My family likes the pizza well enough but the italian subs are really delicious according to them. I've never eaten in, just pick up. The staff are pretty friendly. The lighting is a bit dim which is not a complaint, I'd find it relaxing if I had eaten in. The menu is on the wall, and they were doing a mural on the opposite side when I was there a few months back. Last winter, my husband and I were across the street shooting pool at the bar there when the bar tender recommended we order from them. As for mama renies pizza I've seen them all work hard every day to create outstanding food that isn't greasy and actually can be healthy depending on what you get! But as for salads they are really good i give them a 5 rating pizza is always outstanding! And you have to try their steak subs! They are fresh and quite tasty so far the number one sub that is my favorite! Everything else on the menu is outstanding too! I can eat mama renies every day and not get tired of it! read more

My husband and I went here for lunch today. I purposefully went on Yelp for the first time because we had such a bad experience. We walked in and nobody greeted us. There was a small window where you order. I went there and the woman (who I am assuming is Mama Renie, didn't notice me for about 5 minutes. She was doing dishes and checking other orders. She finally came over and asked what we wanted. She was very rude. No smile or eye contact. When I ordered she tried to convince me to get the lunch "special" (which was posted nowhere in the restaurant). I decided not to and she kept talking about it. Then we ordered two drinks and a pizza. She totaled it up and handed us the tablet for payment and then walked away. No thank you, no drinks, no ANYTHING. After sitting for 5 minutes I had to go back up and ask for our drinks. There was a man behind the counter at this point. He gave me the drinks. Then came to the window and yelled ,"What kind of dressing do you want on your salad?" I asked what they had & he told me French, Ranch & Italian. Wow. Then brings everything out at once. Oh, and they were blasting Rush Limbaugh on the radio for entertainment. Yikes. Everything came in boxes and plastic. Paper towels for napkins. Awful place. Never going back. Tried to get the attention of the kitchen staff,since I had already prepaid,and could not. Had to leave. NO sub and No money back. Also another person that ordered just after me was still waiting for his order when I left. He ended up being the guest guitarist from the David Bromberg show.
