On a nice Sunday afternoon, I decided to leave Northern Manhattan and drive to the Mama Taco in Brooklyn. I have been to the one in Inwood, but not to this one. Parking was easy. As soon as I walked in and sat down at the bar, I was greeted by the bartender. This is no small deal. I have been in places where your meter could expire just waiting to place your order. The bartender's name was Shay (phonetic spelling), and she handed me the electronic menu within seconds of my sitting down. I asked her about certain drinks, and she knowledgeably answered every question. It was brunch time, but I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the chips and guacamole and the calamari. Both were delicious, as was my coconut/mango drink. The place started to fill up after about an hour, and the patrons seemed to be having a great time. Had to try despite the bad reviews... staffing issues can happen even at the best restaurants and being short staffed can slow service to a halt... so in all fairness I wanted to visit twice before I reviewed. First a Saturday brunch and then a taco Tuesday. Neither day did I reserve a table, which if definitely recommended if you need to sit on a Tuesday or want to be anywhere other than the bar on a Saturday. Both times I was satisfied with the last minute arrangements (sitting at the bar on Saturday and standing at the bar Tuesday) and was pleased with the hosts attempts to accommodate us (even when it didn't work out on Tuesday). Tuesday was BUSY... sure that 70 degree weather had some part in that... but when we arrived around 9:30pm it was BUSY! We ended up standing at the end of the bar... enjoyed the all day happy hour (which I love) passionfruit margaritas and Al pastor tacos... on point!! Saturday before was great and I was surprised that the tacos were so good and the margaritas consistent, solid and made well AGAIN. Saturday brunch was steak and eggs and bottomless margaritas... food was delicious... steak actually cooked as ordered and the food came out in about 30 mins... which is perfect... bottomless starts have a cocktail or two before food arrives. We arrived around 2... and ate and drank until brunch was over and left around 8.... The one thing I wasn't too fond of was the automatic gratuity... but given the location and crowd I get it... my bartender (shantay.. I think) was short staffed, but apologetic. I tipped 20$ cash on the 54$ bill paid by card, not realizing gratuities were included... for the future I feel this should be pointed out to customers, because some of us don't pay attention. And while I still would've left the same tip it hits different when you feel the server is looking out for you. But still.. Best brunch I've had in a while! For so many reasons: let me elaborate: First -the vibe of the spot.... Women owned and attention to detail in the wall decor, music is loud... everyone might not like that... this is not a place to have a soft quiet brunch. But if you want to turn up a Saturday afternoon, this is for you! Second music selection: reggae, dancehall, soca, old school, hip hop, rap , R&B... I heard it all in 6 hrs and lived every minute! Dj was working!! Being able to hear this music without traveling out to Flatbush is a win for me. Three: the food. Usually places like this bring vibes but shitty food... under the premise you can't have it all. Mama Taco I clap for you, you have both! Food was consistently delicious... served hot and well prepared. Four : bottomless margaritas - need I say more? And they have flavors!!! Hibiscus and passionfruit my faves! I can't do carbonation so mimosas aren't kind to me but those Margaritas.... They had me making new friends. Which brings me to five: this is not a fancy spot... some real local people... little hood... little boujee... whole lotta friendly though. On both visits I found the women to be friendly and no bad vibes.... Friendly enough I could go alone and enjoy. The worst part of this review was that it took me too long to try this spot. Disaster!! What a Disaster!! Do yourself a favor and don't come here. They don't have staff, one server and one bartender for Friday night!! Really!!! Really!!! That's the recipe for a disaster. The server was mad because there were a lot of people ordering food and drinks. Well, what does she expect?! After seeing this place advertised on social media I decided to give it a go. There was a fee($33) to reserve our table plus the cost of the brunch. You are limited to the brunch menu and appetizers but looking through the electronic menu I seen so many things I wanted to try. Should you choose the bottomless you have the options of margaritas, sangria, or mimosas which was nice. We got there around noon right at opening so it was pretty empty. You are allowed a 2hr slot per reservation. By the time iwe were getting ready to leave the place quickly filled up. I suggest booking the 2pm slot and let me tell you why. The dj started about an hour into our meal and when I tell you this turned into club brunch! We were singing and dancing and drinking; just having a blast. They also offer hookah for those who enjoy smoking. Now for the food! This chic is all about presentation and they didn't disappoint and it was equally delicious along with the vibe is what gained this place 5 starts. Our waiter, Fernando was on point. Food: we had two styled wings with fries and they were cooked well done and so seasoned. The drink truly hit like I was told. We had the Mr Don, strawberry margarita, and pineapple with don julio was strong! Service: the service was great. The staff was very attentive, fun, personable, and had a vibe. Came here on a Thursday. Very cute and I like the vibe. DJ was good. Lots of space. Full bar. My friend and I sat at a 2 top. I ordered the loaded fries; lots of fries with guacamole and calamari. The calamari was over fried but the fries were good. They should give more calamari. My friend had the tostada and she liked it. Drinks were good but not really strong. I hate to leave this establishment a bad review but the service was horrible. On saturday I went to celebrate my best friend's birthday with a brunch there. Deposit was secured for the section via zelle especially since we had a large party.I arrived 30 minutes early and waited for the rest of the party outside and from my observation from security guards were janky and rude. They turned people away based on sneakers and other attire that was definetly inside. One of the guests from our party left his ID home (Not blaming the establishment for this) but once the party was inside the security guard tried to get my friend to pay $100 for entry, he even went down to $50 but no we weren't having that. Reservation was for 6pm and for the most part most of the party was present. We were standing in the front for over 20 minutes to be seated and when we inquired it was the issue of our table not being ready. After being escorted to the back of the establishment where our party was told to sit, there weren't enough seats for everyone. The hookah guy came three times as I kept telling him we didn't have seating for everyone. The server was rushing to put the food order in claiming the kitchen was backed up and we still didn't have seating for the entire party. Asking for the manager was pointless as we were told he was hiding out in the back and didn't surface until after 8pm to offer an apology which was entirely too late. The food came out while the party was still standing as the waitress was telling us the table next to us was closing out ang getting ready to leave. The only plus side of going here with a large party and reservation secured I thought was a nice a touch was they sent links to each person to pre order their food prior to coming, however when the waitress asked to put the food in she didn't ask if everyone was there, it seemed like they just heated up plates and served them. Alot of the orders had specific alterations and the same plates just kept circulating. The only reason for the 1 star was the fact that the DJ was great but that's it. Even though the ambiance was great and I'm sure the staff are kind people, the place is a rip off. My friend and I had ordered guacamole and she came out with chips and pico de gallo. Don't waste your time going here if you have any sort of auditory processing issues or hearing issues in general. Attempted to eat here tonight and was blasted with music as soon as my group walked in. Whenever we asked the hostess If it was going to stay that loud or if they could turn it down, they said no they can't adjust the volume. I found this odd because whenever i attempted to make reservations over the phone, i wasn't even able to get my name through as there was such loud music coming through the phone. Our server Bianca, was absent for most of the time that my company and I was there. Definitely an influencer spot because the food is not it. Great music, decor, and hookah but our food came out cold and was very salty. The only thing I'd recommend are the empanadas but they are very small so get 2 orders if this is your meal. For a new spot about 2 weeks old, I definitely see the potential! I popped in because I wanted a quick bite and was not disappointed. The aesthetic of the restaurant is beautiful! Definitely spacious and different spaces to accommodate various types of parties. I even noticed a DJ booth/stand so I know they're preparing to have lit brunches/happy hours. Since I came in as they were opening, they were cleaning the shelves behind the bar and still getting a few things together, but it didn't stop Angela the bartender from being so accommodating and kind. Monday is 1 free margarita with an order of tacos- so you know I had to take advantage. I ordered the Bang Bang tacos and they were great! You also get cheese popcorn as a starter (which was cold) but a nice touch! The drinks were great and so was the food.
