The place I usually get a pie from in Hicksville closed so since Mama Venezia is near my house I figured I'd try it. Got a large pie with pepperoni and it was dripping in oil and so limp that I couldn't just fold the slice and eat it. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had with a restaurant. Our company ordered 5 pies to be delivered to a dealership that we do business with. The total came to a little over $100 w/ tip. They charged us over $1,000. Yup, over one thousand dollars for five pies. Then when the delivery guy got to the dealership, he tried to make the dealership pay for the delivery, not only attempting to collect payment twice but also embarrassing us to our client. When we called to speak with the restaurant, they hung up on us. We were only refunded the $900 they overcharged us once we went down to the restaurant. We asked for a full refund for the pies due to 1) being overcharged, 2) being hung up on, and 3) being embarrassed in front of our client, and all they offered was one free pie in the future. Well, that was my first and last order from this place. I was ready to leave a bad review after my conversation with the girl on the phone, but decided to try their food first, that didn't help. I ordered last night a Caesar salad and a personal Margherita pizza for delivery through grub hub last night. I placed that order at 5:43 and my delivery was scheduled to be there by 6:27 the latest, with the restaurants own delivery people not grub hub. My order came at 6:50. When i called at 6:45 to ask the whereabouts of my order, politely i might add, the girl was quite short with me, only giving me "they're on the way". When i thanked her for the information she replied "yeah" and just hung up. After seeing a lot of reviews about the rude girls on your staff you really should start making some changes. Onto the food. I can only imagine how long my food was sitting before it got here because 1. My salad was soggy, the croutons were mush, and included a nice romaine bottom, as pictured. 2. My pizza was cold, not even warm, just cold. There is no reason I should have to reheat my pizza that was just delivered. 3. Even at the right temperature the food just wasn't good. I usually never have an issue with this pizzeria with my pickup orders but today I got it delivered through the "slice" app. I ordered a pie, wings and a specialty egg plant slice. First off all my wings were drum sticks and when I called, the girl that answered sounded annoyed that I was complaining about it. She Just gave me an "I don't care attitude". I usually get half drumsticks half wings. Kool. I was upset and didn't get to the issue with my specialty slice. It tasted bland and it looked like they just slapped raw ricotta on it after baking it. This was my first time getting an eggplant slice from this pizzeria and never again. Other places actually bake the eggplant and ricotta into the slice not slap it on the top. I added salt pepper and garlic powder after taking the pic. They serve the best shrimp parm I've ever had and that's comparing it to places that charge more. They serve five HUGE shrimps per platter with a side choice of either salad or pasta. The dressing is homemade Italian or vinaigrette IDK! But it's good too. Previously I've tried a piscatory that had mussels, clams, lobster tail and you can ask for it in red or white sauce. A huge order deff have to share. Garlic bread is okay. They serve the table with bread to begin with so ordering garlic bread is pointless lol. Wow I'm surprised at how good the pizza here is! Great crusty slices with a tasty and fresh tasting tomato sauce, and real pepperoni with a kick! . Similar prices to others but I would say on the better side. I think I like this better then two bros, pepperoni, but love their buffalo chicken slice! I think only Ramos has been better in terms of quality and service so far and Mama Venezia is on par with Umberto's and a little better than La Piazza. Give these guys a chance, at least once. After working all day the only thing on my mind was food! I needed to eat and Yelp, so I found this place and off I went. The parking lot isn't the biggest but I found a spot quick. It was kinda busy inside so I knew this must be good food. I was right, but the service left much to be desired. When I came in I went to the counter. I asked what they had and the guy behind the counter told me. He had just put in a white Slice so I wanted to wait for that, I also got a buffalo slice because they looked good. I wanted to use the bathroom so I asked another employee, he didn't say anything to me, so I located it on my own. After coming out the bathroom I looked for a table to sit at. Most of the tables were not wiped so the girl behind the counter must have noticed that so she came around and wiped Them. None of the staff looked happy, maybe they didn't want to be here, or maybe it was a long day. Either way it wasn't a good look for all to be upset. Finally my food was ready and I was about to eat. The pizza was excellent! The crust was thick and crunchy on the buffalo slice. The sauce was really hot but not unbearable. I really liked it. The white slice was hot and fresh. I travel a lot for work so I'm no stranger to ordering delivery to my hotel and this was one of the best decisions I have made. My colleague and I ordered the wings as an app (which weren't tossed in a buffalo sauce, but were EXTREMELY flavorful) and a deep dish pepperoni pizza. Mama Venezia used to be called Umberto's of New Hyde Park and many of the same people and methods are employed, as it was when I last visited. This restaurant doesn't try to be a fine dinning establishment, the atmosphere isn't overly upscale or unapproachable; It's simply a nicely designed unobtrusive restaurant located in a small shopping center in Hicksville, NY. What it does do well, is provide their customers with excellent food, fun and lively service. I've tried the pastas, eggplant, chicken, veal, vongole, various styles of pizza, sausage rolls, calzones, you name it. The flavors and sauces all maintain the same high standards as compared to Umberto's (in New Hyde Park, NY) which I personally prefer and highly recommend, in fact I was there last weekend. It wouldn't be fair to write about any one specific dish they offer because there would be too many to list. What you can count on is incredible sauces made from the best ingredients, fresh cuts of meat and entrees that will leave you feeling satisfied and content with the idea that you are enjoying a menu that comes from time old recipes using the highest quality ingredients. On a side note; The serving staff could potentially have a successful career as an acapella group, but that's another story. I've passed by Mama Venezia's hundreds of times. It wasn't until I went to Venice on vacation and came back to realize this was the Italian name for Venice! So I planned to try them out one day. That day just came and went. We ordered a large pizza along with the DaVinci dish. First, the Pizza was ok. Not bad, but not great. Really lacking in any flavor. The crust was good, but the pizza was too doughy and lacked a any thin crust crispness to it. It was better the next day when I reheated to get it crispy. The DaVinci was horrible. The shrimp were way over cooked and turned so rubbery, the sauce was bland (a common theme) and the pasta was also over cooked. It was a mess! I was so disappointed because I wanted this to be a great local place. Oh well, guess not! Oh wait, we also ordered a side of garlic bread. Now the DaVinci came with rolls of all sort, that themselves were not good. The garlic bread was hardly garlicy and who knows what they were thinking when they made it.
