We finally settled on the yellowfin tuna roll, pepper calamari, trout with betel leaves, and chicken curry. The tuna spring roll was an interesting twist on the classic prawn roll. It was flavourful when dipped in the sauce but not sure I would order it again. The pepper calamari was by far my favourite. Cooked perfectly, well seasoned and a great dipping sauce to accompany it along with a generous serve. The smoked trout had crispy shallots that paired well with the betel leaves but there was only so much I could eat. Whereas the chicken curry on rice had a great flavour and easy to get more with all the lovely veggies. Their version of the mojito was super refreshing and could have easily ordered another, sat and people watched if we didn't have plans. Convenient location across from the train station, excellent service and a great menu will bring people back often.

The decor is not amazing, but pay attention the hand-written menu items on the white board. They're delicious. Service is always friendly and efficient, according to my own experience and other reviews. Flavours were ok, nothing to rave about and I felt like it was too heavy on the bamboo shoots. The beef broth was HANDS DOWN the most finest, clean-tasting, and flavorful beef broth that I have ever had. It was not oily and surprisingly had a lightness to it. No hoison sauce or sriracha needed to go into this broth. It was perfect the way it was. I also tried the Saigon sandwich, which came with housemade pate, wagyu beef, and eggs. The sandwich was delicious, flavorful, and hearty. Housemade pate truly makes a difference. I did not think a Vietnamese sandwich could've been enjoyed that much but this was an elevated version of your usual banh mi. The Vietnamese iced coffee was also delicious and almost finished immediately. I will definitely miss Ph Nom when I return home! Vietnamese cuisine is one of my favorite and growing up with it, I thought I had tasted it all but Ph Nom was a whole new level entirely!

I'm more interested in the food offerings they have at Emporium and it was Pho Nom that I was most keen to sample first, as it's been spoken and tweeted about for months now, with chef Jerry Mai even giving potential new customers a sample at some pop up Pho kitchens months ago at the National. I'm glad to say that it lived up to expectations, my Saigon Pho Bo broth rich with spices and flavour and three cuts of beef (rare, brisket and meatball) bobbing around amongst the rice noodles. We also sampled the rice paper rolls - the pork skewered and the lemongrass chicken got the thumbs up from the grown ups and the crispy pork got devoured by Miss 3 before she started in on the Pho. It was only the first week when we visited and it was clear that every store in Emporium was struggling a little with the onslaught of people while trying to bed down systems. The Pho Nom crew did a stellar job, pumping on the food quickly and maintaining a smile the whole time. The only downfall? With hardly any seating (something that seems to be apparent with all food vendors in the centre) it was tricky finding somewhere to sit. I parked out on the street and my partner ran in and grabbed them so I can't comment on the shop or staff. But she was fairly quick and we were on our way again. They came wrapped in brown paper bags and were taped shut with some decorative tape and I thought if they taste as good as they look then wow. We got two different types. They were both delicious. These were my first banh mi and I was not let down. The Ba'gets were crispy bread and the fillings were amazing. The crispy pork being my favorite. They were full of meat and salad with a variety of textures. What really stood out and lifted it was the coriander which I've grown to love and the chilli that gave your taste buds a real bang. Not too hot just the right amount. These were great and I would love to get more of these. Unfortunately we live some hours away but I'll be sure to make this a regular stop when in town next.

The Pâté chaud is just as good as the ones found at Vietnamese bakeries in suburbia, just slightly more expensive but cheap for Melbourne CBD. Banh mi is good. Good baguette and filling, but suburbia banh mi is better. Give this place a good if you're near by. Stick with the vermicelli, Pâté chaud and Banh mi.
