This place is amazing! Their food is delicious, especially the steak saltado and the chicken soup. They offer take-out and deliveries for people who want to eat at home or are too busy to eat in. So I went for dinner last night with my family... it's our second time at this establishment...I'll start off by saying the empanadas we had were good....our main dishes were tasty but nothing outta the ordinary....my biggest complaint has to b in our wait time.... I come here a few times a month for the empanadas. I like the fillings and variety. The margherita (mozzarella+sauce) empanada is very satisfying. I think some of their other menu items are a bit overpriced - for instance, I had the sancocho oxtail soup, and it was good, but not $12+ good. The spinach empanada was great to start with. The garlic shrimp was amazinggggg and tasted like my fathers home made shrimp. The coconut shrimp was okay, the sauce that came with it was descent but I prefer the Coconut lime dressing. What I really loved was the skirt steak with chimmichurri !! Soo good. Visited Jersey over the weekend and happened to come across Mambo Empanada. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Skirt Steak which was packed with flavor and not to mention juicy and cooked to perfection! Definitely plan on returning on my next trip. I've tried this place twice and both times I was disappointed. It does not live up to the "Mambo" name. Steak sandwich was fatty and tasteless. Bread was soaked and soggy from grease. The beef empanada was sitting in a puddle of grease in the take out bag and was too grease-laden to eat. For the price of this food, I expect more. read more

One in a while we order take out here. Food is very inconsistent. Sometimes the beans are overcooked, sometimes the sweet plantains are under cooked. Once my fried cassava was way overcooked and too hard to bite. They replaced that for us. The food is okay, but could be so much better. The beans should be cooked the same every time. Seasoning and consistency is always different each time we order. The staff is very friendly, and I can't say they don't care, but I get the feeling there is not enough thought put into cooking the food. The empanadas hardly have any flavor, so we don't order them. May be okay for occasional quick take out, but I would not waste my time sitting here to enjoy a meal. read more

This is an average rating combining our eating at the location and ordering on Seamless. At location - Pros: Pernil and oxtail were delicious. Upgrade to the chaufa rather than just plain rice. Cons: order empanadas and they gave us the wrong ones. Didn't get the right one until our meal was out. Ordering Online Pros: Again the chaufa was a hit! Cons: despite meeting the Seamless minimum, called to tell us we had to order more to get delivery and had to go back through Seamless since they wouldn't take a card for less than $10. Ordered additional $10 and still wouldn't take card so we gave up and went to pick it up. read more

Completely torn on this place. I ordered 4 beef to go and when I got home, I saw they gave me chicken by accident. Okay, errors happen, so I call and they apologize and tell me to come back. I pick them up and when I get home, guess what??? CHICKEN AGAIN! At this point I just canceled the order and asked for my money back. That being said, when I did get to eat the other empanadas, they were delicious. I HIGHLY recommend the Nutella and banana empenada for a dessert! (Just make sure you check your order if you're picking up). I'll probably try one more time in the future to see if they worked the kinks out but that's it. Stopped in with a friend for dinner during November. They're outdoor seating is great, especially considering Covid-19, but be conscious that you're right by the road so it does get a little noisy during rush hour. The food was good and fair enough prices considering the portion size they give. The only odd thing was we waited a pretty long time to actually place our order, and then 40 minutes after our appetizer came out, we asked how much longer on our order and she seemed confused saying we hadn't asked her to fire the entrees. I've never had to particularly request the timing on my entree, but honestly think it was total miscommunication. However, following that, we had asked for boxes for our food and she didn't bring us our check until we requested it 15 minutes after waiting and already bagging up our leftovers. First off, I am a huge fan of Mambo Tea House. I was excited to see they opened this place and broke my rule about not going to a new restaurant within the first month it opens. I think there are some wrinkles that need to be ironed out, but I expect great things from this restaurant. That said... we got take-out for lunch. There were a few people ahead of us, some walk-ins and some phone orders. Other people sat in the dining area. The register is in a tight space, so it gets crowded quickly. It seemed they had orders piling up and had to keep calling them out for someone to claim them. We ordered crispy empanadas to go - 1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 mac and cheese, 1 margarita and two guava and cheese. We instead got two mac and cheese and no margarita. Ok, not a huge deal. I bit into the chicken and hit a bone almost immediately and later a smaller piece of bone. Ok, someone got crazy chopping, just watch out for next time. The guava and cheese had to be reheated a bit, again, no biggie because I was home. If I were at work or at the restaurant, this would've been disappointing. The guava jelly looked like a tongue since it wasn't heated and solidified a bit. The good? Everything tastes great. It was fresh and I look forward to trying other things on the menu. What can they work on? Ask for a name to go with every takeout order. Double-check the deboning of the chicken before bringing out the cleaver. Double-check the order. I think all of these blemishes can be overcome and I will be back in a month! UPDATE - It's been over a month since the original review and I just returned from having lunch there. Our waiter was excellent -- very attentive. The food was fresh. We had sandwiches and split three empanadas. Everything was great. The empanadas were really stuffed and tasted great. Mambo empanadas has become one our go-to local places, the empanadas are huge and delicious and all of the Peruvian and Cuban dishes we've tried have been excellent. Try the Lomo Saltado or the Lechon Asado - they also make some homemade sauces which I enjoy. Service is friendly and if you BYO wine they will make sangria. Definitely recommended. read more

First off if you want to pride yourself to be an empanada joint. Please make sure it's flavorful and fully cooked! As for your Peruvian food. Wow okay. It is truly lacking. Is your chef Peruvian? Because that did not taste authentic at all. I'm Peruvian I should know. I ordered the pollo a la brasa (dry and cold) the chaufa (salty and the veggies were not fresh.) Even the tostones were horrible, soggy and flavorless. I asked for ají verde you didn't even have that and that's a Peruvian staple! My son loves Mambo Tea House and their empanadas so we were excited to learn that the same people would be opening up this restaurant with more empanada choices. We have been on two different occasions, both times we dined in the restaurant. The food is delicious and the staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful.
