This place was phenomenal!! We ate here during a short family trip to hocking hills. Lots of menu choices for small kids and even vegetarian when that can be hard to find in the area. They also have some delicious barbecue. I had the Mac and Cheese bacon burger and it was fantastic

So me and my husband for the last 15 years, having coming to visit my in-laws and his family in…read moreWellston, Ohio and we were always come around Christmas and we never went back home to San Diego,California without going to Chillicothe. We would always go to Ivy's and pick out our Christmas ornaments to take back with us. Well, 2024. We were your visiting to see the lighting of the Christmas tree and it was so magical it was snowing carolers singing, and we were hungry, and this girl loves her pasta, so my mother-in-law said there's a really adorable Italian restaurant. Let's go see if we can get a table, so we walked from Ivy's down to this adorable Italian Restaurant and before I even walked in, I knew I wanted to eat there. My husband opened the door and we were greeted with such a smile and hospitality. The seating area was packed. Little kids were playing. The joy of Christmas was in the air and we love Christmas That's why we would always come to Ohio around Christmas time. We have never experienced Christmas like we do in Ohio. We are a family that goes above and beyond during Christmas we even do Christmas in July lol, it's like being in a Christmas hallmark movie when we're here in Ohio we never have experienced living in 4 seasons. We have always grew up with sunshine and flip-flops lol, wearing rain-boots and scarfs and beanies were more of a fashion statement lol. My husband and myself always said once our four kiddos were grown and married and out of the house we would move to Wellston, Ohio, So that we did, September 2026, and that year was the heaviest snow Wellston has seen in years. My husband took me on a date ‍‍and of course we had lunch at your adorable restaurant. You guys had just opened for lunch and we walked in and got seated. There was only 1 other couple in the restaurant and this sweet young girl and the cook welcomed us as if we ‍‍were regulars lol we had the most wonderful ambience and company. We sat at the booth next to the bar and had the most wonderful lunch date‍‍ We shared with them how we had just moved her from California and we were so excited to hear all about Ohio. Not one time while we were there did anyone else come in to eat, It was like it was created for just us to be there as if my husband reserved the whole restaurant just for me lol we believe God has his perfect timing, and right when we were getting ready to leave is when people started coming in to eat lunch, that young girl and guy working there made us feel like home So, that adorable restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts We will always have dinner as long as we can get a table the evening of the lighting of the Christmas tree, we can't wait to bring our kids and grandchildren and our families and friends. It will be our signature place. So fast forward, my aunt is doing a women's conference in Chillicothe this evening 6/5/26 and it's rare when we can get a group of us ladies together and fellowship and have dinner, so I made reservations for 11 of some very special ladies, that God has brought into my life since I've been living here, and all of these ladies besides me and my mother-in-law have never been to your restaurant. So I am so excited to bring them to our signature spot. With that being said, I will always have a vision and hear those cute little kids playing in the seating area the 1st night we walked in to eat there. It's the little things that matter that make it so very special and the little kiddos definitely make the ambience of Christmas when we were waiting to be seated that night and the little kiddo's were so excited to see Santa and we're singing Christmas carols as we were all waiting to get seated, I never have cared how long I would wait for a table because the ambience was so amazing as busy and packed as the restaurant was, our waitress made us feel as if we were the only ones in the restaurant, My husband and myself ‍‍ are so excited to continue to make memories there and to top it off. The food is absolutely amazing and my husband is a pizza critic, and this girl knows her Italian food So with all that being said, I want to say thank you for the joy that we get walking in your door I am so excited to get ready for my girls night and eat dinner at our favorite restaurant. Love and Blessings, Jeremy and Julie Rider

I'll give you 20 top reasons this is why I believe this is Ohios best steak house : 1. Darren welcomes you with such casual hospitality that five minutes after sitting down you start wondering if you've accidentally been adopted. 2. The Scioto Ribber is so unpretentious that if a New York food critic walked in wearing a $3,000 suit, the steak would still be the most impressive thing in the room. 3. Some steakhouses sell atmosphere. The Ribber sells steak and lets the atmosphere happen naturally. 4. The menu has less ego than most restaurant owners. 5. The steak arrives looking like it just won a bar fight and a beauty contest on the same day. 6. Every bite tastes like somebody figured out how to barbecue a memory. 7. The char-smoked flavor is so unique that if you served it blindfolded, half the table would think they were eating at a ranch in Montana and the other half would think they died and went to beef heaven. 8. Fancy steakhouses spend millions trying to create authenticity. The Ribber accidentally has it. 9. The wait staff are professionals disguised as neighbors. 10. The service is so genuine that when they ask how you're doing, it feels like they actually want the answer. 11. Other restaurants train employees. The Ribber seems to raise them correctly. 12. The place has more Ohio character than a Reds game, a church festival, and a Fourth of July parade combined. 13. Some restaurants are experiences. The Ribber is an institution with mashed potatoes. 14. You don't leave feeling like a customer. You leave feeling like you attended a family reunion where everybody liked you. 15. The steaks aren't cooked. They're respectfully introduced to fire. 16. The outdoor wood-fired grill does things to beef that should probably require a permit. 17. If a steak could earn a blue-collar PhD, this would be it. 18. The flavor isn't subtle. It walks up, shakes your hand, and tells you exactly where it came from. 19. Most restaurants want to impress you. The Ribber doesn't care. That's why it does. 20. The value is so good that halfway through dinner you start looking around for hidden cameras because surely somebody forgot to charge enough. Bonus Five : 21. Darren runs the place with such affection and quiet pride that you get the feeling he'd rather lose money than let a guest have a mediocre meal. 22. In an era where every restaurant wants to reinvent dining, the Scioto Ribber has spent decades perfecting the radical idea of serving great food by great people. 23. The steaks have more smoke than a political debate but leave a far better taste in your mouth. 24. This isn't just Portsmouth history. It's Ohio history with a baked potato. 25. The Scioto Ribber proves that you don't need valet parking, mood lighting, imported marble, or a sommelier named Sebastian. Sometimes all you need is wood fire, great beef, hardworking people, and an owner who treats guests like family. The two blonds behind the bar are so sharp that hemophiliacs have to file a restraining order The Scioto Ribber is what happens when Americana, hospitality, common sense, and a wood-fired grill get together and decide to show the rest of the restaurant industry how it's done.

Drinks are extra, and there's also a small $1-2 supplemental fee added on, which felt a little odd since it could probably just be included in the buffet price. The food itself is very classic home-style comfort food with lots of options. Nothing super fancy or out of the ordinary, but everything tasted fresh and the buffet was constantly being refilled every few minutes. We also got the iced sweet teas, which seemed to be really popular since almost every table had one. One unique thing -- the entrance and exit are through the gift shop, and you also pay there at the end of your meal, which definitely adds to the old-school country restaurant experience. Our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout the meal, too. Overall, worth the stop for the experience and comforting homemade-style food while visiting Logan.

They also offer a menu you can order from a la carte. The buffet was so extensive that we ended up sticking with it. While there were a few minor service issues, our server was kind and attentive and acknowledged the celebration with complimentary desserts, which we truly appreciated. After dinner, my cousin and I went to wash our hands and use the restroom. At the time, all stalls were occupied and one was out of service, so we waited. When a stall opened, my cousin kindly let me go first. I finished and stood outside the stalls waiting for her for about three minutes. During that time, I noticed several people going in and out of the restroom area. I also saw a man sitting in a chair along the hallway wall near the stalls, hunched over. Shortly after, a woman exited the restroom and grabbed him to leave. I thought nothing of it and minded my own business. I also observed the executive chef enter one of the restroom stalls. When my cousin exited, she mentioned that the stall smelled strongly of smoke and that three girls had exited the stall before she entered. She said the stall smelled like marijuana but used it only because it was the only option available. She also pointed out that the man sitting outside appeared to be associated with the group who had been in the stall. We then returned to our patio table where our family was seated. Our server brought out her birthday pie along with another complimentary dessert. She blew out the candle, we shared dessert, and we began preparing to leave. A few minutes later, while we were still seated on the patio, the general manager, Nick Krafft, approached our table accompanied by Executive Chef Michael Wagner. We initially assumed he was checking in on our experience. Instead, he immediately stated, "I'm going to have to ask you not to smoke in our restaurant and bathroom," directing the accusation at my cousin and me. We were completely taken aback by both the accusation and the manner in which it was delivered. We calmly explained that it was not us and described exactly what we had observed in the restroom. We stated that neither of us smoke and never have. We even offered to have our belongings checked and explained that we had not taken any jackets or purses with us to the restroom, as our family remained at the table. Despite this, the general manager refused to listen or consider our explanation and continued to place blame on us. He did not speak to our server, who had interacted with us just moments earlier while bringing out the birthday dessert, nor did he attempt to investigate further or de-escalate the situation. As we were leaving, my fiancé asked the general manager if he actually smelled smoke on either of us. He responded "yes," which was not true, and continued to push a conclusion he had already formed. No apology was offered. We spent over $1,000 celebrating a family birthday at a restaurant we had trusted and enjoyed in the past. Instead, the evening ended with my cousin's birthday being overshadowed by an unfounded accusation. There were many guests dining that evening, yet blame was placed solely on two women who had simply used the restroom. I am a Nurse Practitioner, and my cousin is a special education teacher for autistic children. Neither of us have ever smoked. Being accused in this manner was humiliating, hurtful, and completely unnecessary. I was later contacted by the regional manager, who was understanding. However, I believe this situation highlights the need for better investigation, accountability, and staff training to prevent similar experiences in the future. A personal apology from Nick, acknowledging his actions and taking accountability, would be an appropriate step forward after innocent guests were wrongly blamed and a birthday celebration was ruined.
