These days Blackfriars also shows movies. Blackfriars is a lovely little theatre and arts centre and has its own bar so you can catch a quick drink in the interval of the various productions that are put on there. This is one of the charity shops that doesn't over price items terribly, and you can always grab a bargain such as dress patterns and board games.

Some areas have been partially restored with wood flooring and others can be experienced in their original state, marked by time. There is a small gift shop just outside the gate to purchase tickets and souveneirs and get more information on this historic site.

Begun in 1138 by William d'Albini for his new wife, the widow of Henry I, in the 14th century it became the luxurious exile-place of Queen Isabella. So much for the history of the place; the castle is relatively small and you can look round it easily in under an hour. It's great for kids and whilst you are in Castle Rising itself (a tiny, but pretty village), there is a gorgeous tea room and a pub to pop into. If you are in the area, it is certainly worth a detour, but probably not worth making a long journey for.
