There's no Wi-Fi here, nor any tables suitable for working at. As you can see in my photo, the low-to-the-ground tables are strictly for holding drinks or pastries while you're not actively watching our drinking them. I went with a flat white. It was sour, briny; basically, underextracted. I was so shocked because the English-speaking baristas were helping other customers pick things based on their flavor notes and preferences. My cinnamon bun was yummy at least - a bit of crisp texture, and satisfying gooeyness in the middle. That said, I need a place to work while I'm caffeinating, so I'll have to find a different place in Munich to while away my mornings. read more

Highlights: Easy walk from Old Town, this is a very hip shop with outstanding latte art and excellent roast (on the more acidic side). Food: The coffee is excellent. Easily the best I've found in any European city (coming from an American latte culture perspective). Someone here clearly cares about getting the right roast, and isn't using the all too common burnt beans. Limited pastries, but all looked very good. Ambiance: Aside from the coffee, the ambiance is the other selling point. It's on the smaller side, but has comfortable seating for about 16-20 people. This would be a good place to work for a couple hours, but not for calls as the music is rather loud. Experience: Very friendly baristas, cool vibe, easy spot to get to. Highly recommend. read more

Went out of our way to come here and it was worth every step. The coffee here is amazing, coming from someone who really only has coffee flavored ice cream, and the desserts (we had the matcha marble cake and cinnamon pastry) paired so well. Service was fast and friendly and we ended up buying bags of coffee to take home! It's a very tight space and BUSY so come early. We got lucky and got seats inside so it was a perfect experience. read more

Extremely popular ! Good luck finding a spot on weekends. The espresso is not for americano coffee lovers. It is strong, dense and yet velvety. I am sure it makes for great coffee lattes also but it deserves to be had by itself.....maybe with a cornetto filled with apricot jam.... read more

What an awesome new coffee shop in Munich! They just opened today and it's already super happening. The owner is extremely nice and they do their own roasts here. The whole place is very well designed but definitely hipster. They have skate decks and bike frames on the wall. The whole theme has hand drawn alligators and hands all over including the wallpaper. They even use matte black steamers! How cool is that? They have syphon black coffee as well as aero press and possibly even a cold brew. They also serve tea here including the elusive matcha which the owner himself whisks up in an authentic ceramic bowl. Hands down one of the coolest experiences ever. A must visit in Munich especially if you're into your designer coffee in a hip and trendy atmosphere. read more

I was a bit disappointed after having heard how great this place was from friends. The three cappuccinos I got here to takeaway drew the exact same reaction from all three of us, way too milky and missing the intensity of coffee :-( It's a gorgeous shop with a nice ambience but that alone does not do it for me. It's about the coffee and unfortunately I was disappointed. Will give it another try and see. read more

Excellent specialty coffee shop in Munich! Was greatly looking forward to checking this place out on my visit to the city and it didnt disappoint. Little seating inside, but there is outside seating to make up for it. Pour over coffee and cake, what else can you ask for? They roast their own beans which you don't see a lot of in Germany. They have great coffees here and lots of options for their hand brews as well. The space isn't too big but enough to sit and take a break from sightseeing or chat with friends for a bit. The coffee tables are barely enough to fit the saucer and the cup though. Some good non coffee options here as well. read more

I loved this coffee shop. It's true that it is trendy and hipster, but the baristas were really friendly. I just had espresso, which was of course good, and lemon Kuchen-- the perfect combination (my husband had chocolate and it was also very good). I look forward to coming back next time I'm in Munich. read more

This place sports a young, hipster vibe and some great coffee! The barista was very friendly and the coffee, while a rather light roast, was very tasty. We ordered a flat white and a macchiato, and both were very good. We also had a slice of banana bread, served with butter and salt; this was delicious as well. I wouldn't hesitate to return! Heads up: they don't have wifi and it didn't look as though they have a restroom. read more

The concept of M vs. M is quite witty: either get a coffee made by man or by machine. Ok, all drinks are made by a 'man' (aka whoever is working at the counter), but when one gets a 'man' coffee, the coffee-making process becomes something like a science project. Protocol**: 1. Choose the coffee bean (from Colombia, Ethiopia...to name a few). 'Man' grinds the beans. 2. 'Man' prepares coffee-making apparatuses consisting of glass filters, flasks, etc. 3. 'Man' pours hot water into beans and filters the coffee into the flask. 4. Wait until filtering is finished. Pour coffee into cup. Enjoy. ** NOTE: Best to go there to check out how it is exactly done as I am probably not describing this correctly. The 'man'-made coffee is different from the usual coffees. I'm not sure if it's the coffee beans or the coffee-making process, but the coffee was very well-balanced that it was easy to drink it black (and I like milk in my coffee). But one shouldn't neglect the 'machine' coffees, i.e. made with an coffee machine. I enjoy the 'flat whites' as much as the 'man' coffees. This relaxed/hipsterish cafe also serves a selection of cakes/pastries. I've tried their cranberry cheesecake and red beet brownies, and both were decent. The prices are fair, and there is free wifi. I can easily spend hours in this place, enjoying the 'man' AND 'machine' coffees (no need for the versus). read more

One of the top coffee shops that I found in Germany. They have a great ambiance and amazing coffee. The people there are super friendly and there is a decent amount of seating so you enjoy coffee inside or outside. I ended up buying a few bags of beans to bring back home. read more

Finally -- a legit third-wave speciality coffee shop (and, hence, a decent flat white) in Munich. Given the lack of competition it's not surprising that Man vs. Machine has become an instant favorite. But it's also *actually* great. Get an excellent espresso drink made on a La Marzocco Strada, or go for a pour-over, siphon brew, or aeropress. Man vs. Machine roast their own single-origin beans (e.g., Kenya, Ethiopia), and the knowledgable staff are happy to help you choose. I've only had coffee here (well duh) but they do offer attractive pastries and a range of organic teas. In the store, you can also purchase their own roasts and a well-curated selection of home equipment, such as the Moccamaster. The store itself has a minimalist yet cozy aesthetic, with very tasteful decor. I love the Dan Witz print and the beautiful hand-drawn wallpaper with M vs. M's alligator logo. Sadly, there is only 30 mins of (spotty) WiFi, but for the coffee alone I will keep coming back. read more

I think that anything I will write here it was already said. This is just must visit place on Munich if you like good and fresh coffee. Every time I'm in this Cafe I get delicious coffee, specially brewed coffee. Of course nice and casual atmosphere and of course super cool interior. Maybe there is just one little downside of this place, there is quite small space inside, but you can always order coffee to go. read more

I have been looking for a decent cafe in Munich for ages, I must have tried about ten places that looked promising but were disappointing each time. This place is great. The coffee is fantastic, by which I actually mean it is just like the coffee at home in Australia. I had cake too, and that was also good but of course good cake is not hard to find in Germany. The staff were friendly too, so overall I am really pleased I now have a good cafe to go to when I'm in Munich. read more

Great coffee, one of the best I've ever tasted in Munich. 3€ for a cappuccino is a fair price for downtown Munich and the quality you get is superb. Staff is friendly and seems trained very well. The café itself is pretty small, very bright though. The interior is held rather minimalistic but gives off a cozy vibe, perfect for a study break. I can only recommend this place! read more

These stools are a disaster waiting to happen. They're too low and small to use as an adult. I'm watching multiple people trying to navigate around them. There's also no where to place your drink down while you sit. The cappuccino was too milky, needed a little bit more sustenance. read more

One of the guys was trained at Workshop in London. Ergo, the coffee is excellent. If you're looking for a "third-wave" coffee place here in Munich, Man vs. Machine is as good as it gets here. The selection of beans, and the resultant roasts, are excellent. I love the space, the staff are friendly, and the bathroom has Aesop products ;) I also appreciate the fact that they didn't try to tell my fiancée how she should drink her coffee. I always drink my coffee black, but I cannot stand people instructing customers how they should drink their coffee. Advice is one thing, but most specialty coffee staff (from San Francisco to NYC to London to Berlin) have this terrible habit of condescending to their customers. So, tip of my hat to you at Man vs Machine for not doing this. The pastry offerings could be better - it's largely hit or miss. Small complaint, but I'm sure it'll get better. read more

Such a great place! We have been searching for a place like this since we moved to Munich a year ago. If you're near Gartnerplatz, it is worth walking down to but it's a also destination unto itself. We all decided to meet...and, I can affirm Sabine H knows her stuff. What a wonderful recommendation :) If you are familiar with Blue Bottle, Stumptown, etc in the States...Vits Kaffee will please your coffee-feigning palate just perfectly. If you aren't? Well, you're in for a treat, too! It's actually quite a large spot with many seating options, and very convenient to public transportation. Arriving around 2pm, our mellow group took over the back corner with couches. I think its meant for kids (some toys/games) but also really nice for a group of 7 or so to catch up and have some extremely lovely coffee. By 4pm all the tables were filled with weekend revelers....and the din elevated significantly. The sound was a bit loud, but very congenial and jovial. My two drinks: a cappuccino (swan milk foam art!) and a hot cocoa (this one came with a bear!). I actually preferred the hot cocoa, very rich and dark and such an indulgent treat. Some key points: *they roast in-house. It smells divine. *They have an extensive menu that describes all of the beans and procedures, and even information on how you can learn to make the milk foam designs! This may be motivation enough to learn German. So I can make milk foam like teddy bear faces. It really does make the experience better, it does! *table service or counter service is available. Our server was very helpful, and several stopped by to make sure our group had everything we needed. *cash or german bank cards only. For a large group with 2 drinks each, several desserts and great service...45euro. I thought it to be extremely economical given the location and quality of the coffee!
