I have had nothing but excellent service at Mandalay One. Annie, the owner, is lovely and always happy to help. My husband and I use her dry cleaning and tailoring service frequently. I used to live on the same block, but I moved two years ago and I still go out of my way for her service I'm surprised to see any negative reviews here! She is patient and will discuss my tailoring options in great detail - which are often not straightforward, I bring vintage items and sometimes want to change the fit or shape of garments altogether, these aren't just simple hem jobs I ask advice about dry-cleaning and she treats my garments with care. Never had a button missing or anything damaged I occasionally see her interactions with other customers. She usually knows their names. I've seen people stop in and ask for advice about cleaning special items they don't even have with them - for example, a woman asked about cleaning a shearling coat she hadn't even purchased yet! BEWARE UPDATE: after I was credited back after disputing charges (initial review) she went and changed my card again without my permission. credit card fraud is a serious offense. BEWARE!!!!!! I wish I had read the reviews prior to becoming a customer at this establishment. Unfortunately, they are true At first, Annie, the owner is very nice and friendly. A few months into having my laundry and dry cleaning done there weekly a $115 black cardigan sweater went missing. I brought this up to the owner and asked her to see if she could find it, providing her with a picture from the receipt I had from my online order. When she was unable to locate it I said no big deal. When I got back my dry cleaning (silk banana republic shirt) with new stains on it that weren't there when i dropped it off, and she couldn't get them out I again said, no big deal. When she gave me 30 pounds of black laundry back COVERED in white fuzz/lint (i don't own anything that isn't black) I expected to take it back and have her redo the laundry free of charge. NOPE! she only accused me of it being my fault, she took it back and charged me again to redo/ fix it. so now, it's a big deal. $80 for 30 pounds of laundry?! she had my card on file, so when i read used to pay for it, she charged my card anyway without my permission! She is overpriced as well. $1.25 a load vs three other places 1/2 a block from her that all charge less then a $1 a lb. read more

3 four star reviews might have you seriously considering this place as your go-to for dry cleaning and perhaps steaming a suit, right? This here is a forewarning to think twice... AND if you're reading on your way there... to back away slowly... In short: - Favorite $200 Suit jacket = given for steaming before an important business trip - Pickup and packed away day of the trip - Pulled the jacket out and found that the blazing mark of an iron had made the suit unwearable. Like, oops, forgot i left an iron on, type of mark. - Freak out ensues. - Return to Brooklyn & Mandalay and bring suit to Mandalay One That's when things got really uncomfortable. Brought the suit in and was spoken to unbelievably rudely. The woman at the front of the store, presumably the owner mocked the fact that the jacket was brought in for a steaming with: "Oh YOU didn't iron it because you can't iron right? Oh boo hoo hoo." Um, what? Proceeded to ask what would be done - at least an acknowledgement that a mistake was made. Nope. None of that. The woman continued to berate in front of other customers, to the point where the jacket was abandoned because clearly nothing was going to be done and this woman was setting the world's new record for worst customer service ever. The kicker? She didn't think Yelp reviews mattered. "Ooh you're going to write a bad review about me? OOH BIG DEAL." Yeah - this is a warning. Don't sacrifice your clothes, your self-esteem or your salary by entering this shop. She thinks Yelpers (and everyone else) are expendable. read more

I like the environment, but am very skeptical of so-called organic dry cleaning. It's not like anyone looks in the back and says, "Oh yeah, I can tell this is an organic process." I find it highly suspect that I would pay more to see and feel nothing different when my shirts are returned. I mean if somehow my shirts came back and every time I walked by someone on the street, they would notice how organic I was then it would all be a different story. Half of the dry cleaners you take your stuff to send their dry cleaning out anyway. Mandalay is not an organic cleaner and I could care less. When it comes to dry cleaners there are only a few important questions to ask: 1. Have they ever lost a piece of clothing? - No 2. Have they ever damaged a piece of clothing? - Other than normal wear and tear on random buttons, No 3. How long have you used them? - One year 4. Do they have a good system to reduce hassle when dropping off? - Yes, if you use the same bag they will just count the clothes, see the tag and give you a receipt 5. What is the typical turnaround - Two days 6. Do they deliver? - Yes, if you want them to 7. Are the prices reasonable? - Yes, unless you are really cheap So while your shirts and pants are being sent to the organic farm where free-range bison and cage-free chickens painstakingly and organically dust, clean and invigorate them, I just go to Mandalay. read more

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Sabeen and Steph on this one. There are just far too many options to go to a place that not only doesnt value your business, but also doesnt treat your clothes with care. I mean, isnt that their job, being in"garment care??" I have used this place on occasion, and have to agree with the quality of their work. My clothes were returned with more stains than when they were dropped off, the staff is not at all concerned with my patronage or correcting their mistakes, etc. I would encourage ANYONE who cares for their clothes to take them elsewhere. read more

It took us several years of trial and error to find Annie in this unassuming little spot but we wouldn't go anywhere else. She's always honest about what she can and can't do and we've always been really happy with the service. She is also a seamstress and has done lots of little projects for us including hems and readjusting waists. The prices might seem a little high but there isn't anywhere else that has this sort of friendly, consistent and honest service. read more

Cons: expensive, awkward hours as they are closed Sunday and close 9 pm weekdays. Pros: they get stains out the more convenient dry cleaners don't. Good with spot treatment, good with oil stains. Also, neatly folded drop-off laundry although I use this infrequently. So basically I drop off tougher stains here and do the rest of my dry cleaning cheaper/easier to access places. Also I've been happy with the tailoring, although have only had simple jobs done here (e.g. shortening pants). read more

Brought in a shirt with a small olive oil stain the size of quarter. Two days later I picked up the shirt to find the oil stain gone and in its place a giant chemical bleach stain the size of a postcard, completely ruining it. I went back to the cleaners to complain but they told me there's nothing they could do to fix the bleach stain they created, and the kicker, they wouldn't even reimburse me! I have used Mandalay One many times over the past two years, and I have generally had good service when I have had mens' shirts cleaned, suits dry-cleaned, and minor tailoring work done. Last week I dropped off some shirts and three pairs of Brooks Brothers wool dress trousers. The shirts came back fine, but the white interior liners of all three pairs of pants were ruined, dyed a dark, sooty grey color, as if the pants had been washed on hot in a normal washing machine with other dark clothes that bled. I returned to the store with a fourth pair of identical pants to show the bright white interior lining. The store owner claimed that I had never been a customer before (I went home to retrieve past credit card statements to prove that this was wrong), and that the pants were old and already ruined when I brought them to her. She was unapologetic and focused only on the fact that my name was not in her system (despite my credit card statements showing that I was a past customer). She seemed to think I was trying to scam her into replacing already-ruined pants. I asked her to clean the fourth pair of pants in order to prove that her process was ruining my clothes, and she refused. Be very careful if you have to use them. Make sure the owner/employees know your face, and I recommend that you carefully walk through the condition of any clothing you give them when you drop it off. If they screw up, they will be entirely unhelpful. read more

I have been going to this laundry for just over a year, they were alway prompt and friendly with their service, things laundered were mostly done well. The dry cleaning was always meh. Some things came back not smelling so fresh or seemed to have just been pressed rather than cleaned and the art of pressed shirt collars also eluded them, but on the whole it was decent enough... until of course they ruined my favorite white shirt! Apparently the giant yellow/brown blobs ALL over my shirt had been previously unnoticed by both me or them and were there when I bought it in (absurd) . I did not expect them to be able to fix it, i didn't even expect them to refund the cost of my gorgeous Anthroplogie shirt, I just expected an apology, responsibility and the refund of the cleaning, I got none of these. There are 6 other laundries within 50 feet of this place, so I will be frequenting somewhere else from now on. I am not gonna quibble over $4.50 and am sort of disgusted they would. read more

I've had ONE transaction here, and it was pretty awful. And I second everything Sabeen says in her review because I was there waiting in line as the tailor woman mocked her. I had gotten a cocktail dress dry-cleaned at another place to make sure a small stain could be removed--it was. That place doesn't tailor things though, so I took it to Mandalay One, my first time going here. I got the dress back and saw that the simple tailoring job was done well. Then I notice that there's a piece of black thread between the layers of my white dress...and I also notice there were small stains all over it...not terribly noticeable, but they absolutely weren't there when I brought it to her freshly cleaned. I brought it back, and first she denied there being a string in my dress...and then she said "ohh, you're right...because it's white you can see the string." Hi, lady, maybe don't leave errant black strings inside my white dress. So she took it out. Then she had a major attitude about the stains, saying "well, I didn't dry clean it." Well, I didn't ask you to clean it because I had just had it cleaned, I simply asked you to tailor my dress and not stain it in the process. Then she took my dress (this was a Saturday) and told me to come back on Monday when they close to pick it up...then she hands me a bill for the dry cleaning. When I protested that I didn't want to pay for stains I hadn't put there, she waved me away and said "We'll talk Monday." So then I basically lived in fear the next two days, thinking she was going to sabotage my dress (I was flying out at 5AM on Tuesday for a wedding out west) and leave me with nothing to wear. I go in on Monday, and she still has the dress there, and she goes "I found more stains and I don't want to be responsible for them, so I didn't clean it." Hey, jerk, maybe call me to tell me that on Monday morning so that I could come by and take a look at it and maybe take it somewhere else. Luckily, I was able to find a dry cleaner in San Francisco who took care of the stains. But this was the most unpleasant experience I've ever had with someone in a service industry. And yes, as Sabeen said, this lady really doesn't care AT ALL about customer service or about her reputation. "Go, write a bad review, I don't care, there are plenty of other customers." When I moved back to BH I started my laundry/dry cleaning services here. I started an account for auto pay, but i know i should have been wary when they wrote my Credit Card info into a paper notebook (and not a secure PC/Point of Sale application). Sure enough, a week or so later i had fraudulent charges and had to cancel that credit card and change that info with the other merchants using it for autopay!! what a pain. when I went to ask about this they were very rude to me. there are SO many choices nearby.....I now give my business to Heights Cleaners just one block East...two very friendly guys run this one - highly recommended. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before coming here. I WAS a regular customer of their wash and fold service. They ruined my white linens. I brought them in stain free and got them back covered in black permanent splotches. Completely ruined. I always keep white linens so that I can pre-treat them with bleach and wash out any stains before taking them to the laundry. I am 100% these stains are not from me. When I politely informed them about it, they took zero responsibility and offered me NOTHING. Not even that load of laundry for free. They essentially made me pay to have my expensive linens ruined. BE WARNED! I got a yelp account just to post this, absolutely appalling customer service. read more
