Typically when you go to the buffet the first thing you want to do is try everything to see what tastes good. You then settle down and you eat your favorites until you want to explode. When you're ready to explode you go back for dessert you don't need. Well this time it was all good. They have such a selection of food, a sushi bar, and even a Mongolian BBQ spot where you can make your own bowls! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food. First time here. I didn't stay but picked up to-go plates. Pregnant daughter is not a fan of smell. I was in need of seafood. From what I could see, it's a popular place. I was watched a gentleman trying to bribe the cashier/host for better seats, a party he was bringing in. It was pretty smooth lol. The seafood was not good (bland) not a problem, I recooked it. The issue was EVERYTHING tasted like fish. It was like cooking orange chicken in the same pot as the fried fish without washing it. Even the sugar buns tasted like fish (like using same oil as fried fish for donuts) disgusting. We threw it away (even the fish) Such a waste. It's still a popular place. But probably a hit or miss. I love coming to this Mandarin Buffet almost 3 times per month. Their food are excellent, sushi are great, mongolian grill are great, and my favorite of it all is their roast pork and tofu with chili. I love each food they have over there. The staff and customer service are great. ALL ARE GREAT!! They deserve 5 stars. Special mention to Bing, their boss and staff..., excellent service. Been here on multiple occasions. It is a really affordable price, but because of that, don't expect anything fancy or out of this world. I really liked how they improved the sushi bar from the past years. They've added more variety to it and in general the fish isn't bad. However, I'm giving it a three stars for this visit because I was pretty disappointed in the other foods. Even though they were in a hot case, they weren't hot...the food that we got were more lukewarm. Maybe even cooler than lukewarm. That was a major downfall :( of course the foods that were kept with a lid on (like the buns and dimsum products) were hot, but the other foods weren't. As for desserts, they have a nice variety from tiramisu to creme brûlée to a chocolate fountain. It is good to see v2.0 of Haiku Buffet. Cost has gone up significantly but the selection and food quality was comparable with Haiku of yesteryear. Only thing is, we were super thirsty coming home all night, and so the sodium content must have been greater than we thought. read more

Fast quick and easy. As far as buffets go, this one is at the top of the list. Note that my rating is for the buffet category. Not rating this a 4 as compared to restaurants. The food is all mediocre but theres something for everybody and they have fast and attentive service, making it easy for a group. It's also VERY reasonably priced and very centrally located, with access straight to 520 East and West (close to 405 and Bellevue too). We came here last night for a makeup christmas dinner with the company because I was on vacation the whole time. lol I got to say I was surprise with the variety and quality of food for the price. It only cost us $14 per person to have dinner here. This place have a mongolian grill, fresh sushi bar, salads, your usual fried & stir fried chinese food, fresh seafood, short ribs, couple of fishes, salad and desserts. The crab are small shell crabs but had nice assortments of different ways they cook shrimp and had crawfish. The desserts are nothing special and it lack the main protein like a roast or ribs but most the food was tasty with flavor. Some of the food had too much sodium and MSG. The best way to eat here is to take small portions to see what you like before over commiting to the food which you may not like it. Mandarin is a typical Chinese buffet, but does have a Mongolian grill too. I came here by dint of my friend, the good Doctor P, having a restaurant.com coupon for here and wanting to treat me to dinner. I do try to limit my visits to buffets, but have been known once (or twice) to sneak into Izzy's, off Halsey near I-205 in Portland, and found that particular buffet decent. But that's about the only buffet I can do. Walking into Mandarin with its ocean of tables, we were greeted by a sour fishy odor. I wasn't that hungry, and none of the "Chinese" dishes looked particularly compelling, so I loaded up on stuff like garlic bread, deviled eggs, mandarin oranges and longans (which remind me of pear). I did try the baked salmon and actually found it quite good - flavorful and tender. Though I didn't sample any, I noticed several bins containing clams or oysters on the shell. The Doctor P really went to town at the sushi table, enjoying her selections. However, I thought the octopus in the octopus sushi looked rather old and dried-out. Dessert options were extremely limited and there was no chocolate sauce available for the ice cream. Be careful, those are teriyaki sauce bottles on the wall next to the ice cream machine (that's not chocolate)! There's so many much better Chinese restaurants in Bellevue-Redmond, you shouldn't have to settle for Mandarin. read more

I know, I know. Chinese buffet. Did I really expect the food to be good? Well, it isn't. Would have been ok but this is not a cheap buffet either. The sushi was not fresh at all. The cooked fish was overcooked. Seriously, I was worried about food poisoning. Actually, my son did lose it but I think that had more to do with how much he ate than anything else. If you want a decent seafood buffet, do NOT come here. Go to Haiku instead. First of all, I am not all that into buffets. But my visit to Mandarin Buffet was my second this week. Did not choose this place, but who am I to refuse a free meal (by a friend) if I am offered one? I had formerly visited this space when it was its previous incarnation, dim sum place, Jeem. It still looks pretty put together. A big restaurant with plenty of seating and organized well. Compared with my visit to Falls Buffet earlier this week, I have to say the setup here is much better as there is no backup for one specific line here. There are 8 separate areas which includes a Mongolian grill section. The selection is pretty wide. Not many Western foods here though outside of pizza and fried foods, unless you count the salads and desserts. This is a certifiable Asian buffet with a focus on Chinese foods. There is also a decent selection of sushi here. Overall, I thought the food was pretty fair. Everything tasted pretty good and I definitely was full after two plates. Nothing stuck out as being standout, but as an ensemble this buffet was comparatively good. The only bad thing I had here was the egg foo yung which was one of the most blandest egg dishes I have encountered. Given the fair price of $8.99 for lunch, I thought Mandarin is a good deal on some decent food. The concept of the buffet brings forth the stereotype that buffet food is of bad quality. I think this has lot do with the feelings you get when you have filled yourself to the brim with food. But you really need to rate the food separately on its own merit and combine it for your actual rating of the place. Okay, first of all, I think everyone knows by now that if you want the absolute best quality of any type of food, that you don't go to a buffet. With that out of the way, this place was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes I'm just in a mood for lots of variety, and so a buffet it is. And I've been to some scary ones. I arrived at 11:00am just as they were opening, and this was actually a pretty good time, as there were only 5 or so other people, but most of the food was already set up, so there was no jostling through the crowds required. Yay! There were a total of about 7 different areas/rows set up, and there were a ton of different items to choose from. Along with the more standard Chinese items, there was a dim sum section, a rather large sushi section, soups (hot & sour, egg drop, and miso) a row of different salad types, and a desert line. At the end of the desert line there's a chocolate fountain (rubes...do NOT dip your strawberries or marshmallows into the fountain! Use a spoon and drizzle the chocolate onto whatever needs to be chocolatized.) The chocolate is heated so that it flows, but cools to a hard shell for crunchy goodness. There's also a section where there's raw meats and several items (Mongolian grill style) that you can choose and then have grilled while you wait. That same area keeps the tempura vegetables cooking (located next to the sushi.) I tried a lot of different items, and although some stood out more than others, there was nothing that I didn't like. There were probably 20 different types of sushi. The lunch buffet was only $10.99, and with hot tea $12.24. Considering I ate enough to feed a family, I'd say that's a good deal! A good budget buffet. Lots of variety - American Asian as in something for everybody including wings and pizza for the non-Asian food eaters in every family. I particularly liked the soups. I agree with the reviewer that differentiates 'buffet' stars apart from cooked-on-order restaurants. Prepared food under a heat lamp is always going to be at some disadvantage. There is more variety than found at most Chinese buffets; in addition to the traditional offerings they have a Mongolian grill (look carefully and you can have them grill a steak-like cut of beef), a large sushi selection, a fair range of salads and fresh fruit, and a large dessert selection with the requisite ice cream dispenser. If your young ones don't share your taste for Asian cuisine, there's pizza to placate them until they bolt for the aforementioned ice cream machine. The teriyaki chicken, sauteed mushrooms, green beans, and barbecue spareribs were the highlights for me. Unfortunately the clams prepared in black bean sauce appeared to be a small imported variety; a shame with the abundance of local sources for clams. Much of the food is relatively authentic, but if you tend to gravitate to the 'Americanized' mainstays like General Tso's chicken, or orange chicken, you'll feel safe because there's plenty you'll recognize. They have I think three different soups available. Our server was attentive and kept our drinks refilled. I read somewhere that the wait staff at these Chinese buffets make it or break it with their tips, so though it's a buffet, I try to keep this in mind. If this restaurant is true to form, they pay their waiters 60% of minimum wage which is something like $5.70 per hour. This is perfectly legal and ostensibly the wage differential can be made up through tips. But I sometimes see people not tip figuring they did most of the work. The pricing scheme is a little complex, so pay attention: Dinner Monday through Thursday $13.99 Dinner Friday, Saturday, Sunday $14.99 Dinner on holidays $15.99 Lunch $8.99 Kids under 2 are free, kids 2-11 are 95 cents per year. Drinks, including tea and soft drinks are extra. All things considered, Mandarin Buffet is about as good as these places get. I consider it a poor man's Todai - and since Todai (and the Eating Factory in Bellevue) are gone, alternatives are few and far between. read more

Probably the cheapest buffet around for its wide variety of selections. They have a grill & noodle soup station. Many many selections on sushi & sashimi. Chinese food ranging from fresh raw oysters, crab, honey Walmart shrimp, a few dim sum items like sui mai, chicken feet, shao long bao (which was alright), green beans, chow mein and fried rice. Desserts are different every day, but my favorite is the flan and cheesecake. Fruits ranges every day. You cannot go wrong with this place. Servers are quick at taking your old plates away. The Hubs and I took his parents here for lunch on a Saturday. Place was packed but since it's huge, we still got a table right away. We were all surprised and pleased by the large, diverse selection of Chinese food, sushi and sashimi, and American food. There's also a Mongolian Grill, a salad bar, dessert bar, and my weakness: a chocolate fountain. Some things were hit and miss. Take your time and just take a little bit of each dish so you can figure out what you like and don't like. I don't like soggy potstickers and dim sum so I skipped all the dumplings. Also the wrapped sticky rice looked good but didn't taste good. Not seasoned right. My in laws loved the fried rice, chicken skewers, beef and broccoli, and trying a bunch of different dishes. This time I filled up on sushi, sashimi, beef and broccoli, veggie rice noodles, green beans, and tons of strawberries dipped in the chocolate fountain. It's been a few years since my initial review and I felt like I had to give them an update. I swore I wasn't ever going back but seeing as how my family loves buffets and there's a shortage of good ones around here we inevitably end up here every so often. They no longer make you put a deposit down when making a reservation (who finally came to their senses?) and the selection is pretty good especially their Mongolian stir fry grill. Selection is always the same, the Mongolian grill is what really makes this place worth if you are into the fresh cooking of your food. We love the selection of other foods they have but when we have come it has not changed much in terms of what they are offering. I've been coming to Mandarin for well over a decade. It is a huge buffet and while no single section is consistent you can always pick your way through to a fantastic meal and it is a crowd pleaser when going with a small crowd. I use to work nearby and they could always accommodate large groups. Sushi like other stations can be hit or miss. I stay away from the Mongolian grill station so I can't rate it at all. You can choose to go low calorie and healthy or dig in to the fried foods they offer. During busy times all the stations are well stocked so that eggroll you just picked up didn't stay there long. read more

Food was delicious today in Mandarin Buffet. I enjoyed a variety of sushi and other seafood. They have big variety of salads that is a big plus for this place. Service was not good at all. I was given a table and it took them 25 min to bring me water and a straw. This place is my go-to restaurant when I crave a variety of good quality Chinese good and sushi. They have very good selection and always satisfy me. First time here tonight with some friends who recommended the place. We came on a Saturday evening around 6pm. We waited for about 10 minutes and then was seated so not too bad of a wait. The food selection was fairly generic for your typical Chinese and Japanese cuisine. They also have a Mongolian BBQ station, as well as some American food mixed in. The service was excellent and our waitress was very prompt with getting refills when needed and always asking if we needed anything else. The price per person is also not bad given it is the Redmond area. If you are hungry and need lots of food this is definitely a place to go! read more
