Can't complain. Variety of food selection although no one single food item stands out. Could have a bigger seafood variety. Don't have high expectations with regard to the desert selection but then again it is a buffet. Very relaxed atmosphere. We've been here for a few birthdays with large groups and never feel rushed. Remember to register your birthday on their website as you will get to dine in free if you bring in 3 other guests with you on or around your birthday! Unlike other restaurants, I don't recall ever being told "last call" which has been nice. Never really too busy or crowded so haven't experienced having to wait in line too long. The line up at the buffet station has usually been pretty fluid. We like this location for the service with plenty of variety on weekends, but it can get super busy! While other buffets have placed a time limit, we never feel rushed here. It would be great if they had the buffet items ready at opening time, rather than waiting closer to 12:30 pm weekdays/12 pm weekends. Mandarin has been a family favorite for decades, but they need to improve the bread/croissant station, especially the desserts, which are very low quality imo. Yesterday (Boxing Day) my family and I went to this Mandarin for lunch. For 3 of the 4 of us it was our first time visiting this location, but I'd previously been to their Yonge/Eglinton location at least 3-4 times and I'd been to at least one other location west of Finch W./Dufferin in North York once, a long time ago. We arrived shortly before 1 pm at which time it was fairly crowded; it became packed while we were there but barren by the time we left just after 3 pm. I/we started with plates of cold food incl. corn (1st photo). I then had 3 hot plates of food incl. an egg roll, broccoli, chicken, assorted veggies, potatoes, noodles, beans, rice (brown and steamed white), an onion ring, burger sliders, prepared turkey (beef was also avail.), pizza slices, fries, garlic bread, etc. For my 5th/dessert plate, I chose a chocolate chip cookie, a couple of different brownies, a slice of chocolate cake (they had at least half a dozen different cakes on offer for dessert), etc. Everything I chose was absolutely delicious and I can't recall ever having the same quantity of food - or more - previously at any other buffet I've been to. The service was impeccable: speedy and very efficient. I felt fairly full but not stuffed after finishing. As does other Mandarin locations, splendid décor is displayed throughout the venue such as giant fish tanks. My family's experience was enjoyable enough that were are planning on coming back to this location next summer (2025). read more

I went here recently with a party of 5 for lunch and no one was disappointed. They had the lunar new year theme and overall everyone enjoyed the buffet. I visited the Mandarin restaurant at Cooper this past Sunday. Overall, the service was pretty good--I can't really complain on that front. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was solid as expected. However, there was one small but important issue that took away from the experience. While I was still eating, one of the waiters reached over to grab a plate and accidentally placed someone else's used spoon right next to my plate. It was a small detail, but I found it a bit unhygienic and off-putting, especially while trying to enjoy my meal. I know mistakes happen and no place is perfect, but attention to these little things goes a long way. That said, it's still a decent spot and I'd consider going back--just hoping for a bit more care with table hygiene next time. read more

4 adults, 2 teenagers and a 5 year old. Where to you go to find something that everyone likes? We went on Saturday so the selection was a little better than during the week. I love the fresh grilling station and I'm a sucker for pepper beef. Lots of fruits options for dessert if you are not into sweets of which there are lots. The kids love it because they can have more than one dessert. Wings and noodles are always a good choice for them. Cotton Candy on the way out. Featured wine was reasonably priced. Not fine dining but the staff was attentive and efficient. Continuous service and not crowded. For the price point, it's certainly worth it. Having said that, this is the only location I will go to. My review is for a private party. My grandmother had her 88th birthday celebration here on June 30th. We had a private room that accommodated approximately 60 guests. The room was ready and set up when we arrived early. The staff here were even nice enough to bring us tape and other things when we tried to decorate. They also have a nice entry way where we were able to take some family photos. Of course we had children and at one point a glass fell on the floor and broke. One of the staff members came right away to stand where the glass was and other two came to help clean it up. They were so fast that some of my family didn't even realize a glass broke. I observed that they were also taking photos for people. They were also quick to provide refills for our drinks and take away used plates and utensils. I was very impressed with their service. On to the food! The buffet area was beautifully decorated with Canadian flags as it was almost Canada Day. The buffet presentation was nice overall. I thought all the entree dishes were delicious. I didn't try everything, but tried most of the chicken dishes and also had some sushi rolls. My favorite was the fried chicken tempura balls surprisingly which you dip in the sweet red sauce. LOL. I shared a plate of desserts with my sister so we could try more and sadly, the dessert was disappointing. Most of them tasted pre-made. With everybody's life being so busy these days, my family (including extended family and a couple of guests), decided to forgo all the planning, housecleaning, cooking, and housecleaning to go out for our Christmas dinner instead. Mandarin Restaurant offers enough variety to satisfy everyone's taste and desires. No matter what else is on the menu, I can never resist having soup and salad. That's healthy, right? Okay, I threw a few chilled snow crab legs on the salad. I also threw a wonton in my Hot and Sour soup. Doesn't everybody do this? My next stop was the Prime Rib with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and corn. Yum! It was a bit too rare for my guest so I ended up eating her portion as well. Hmmm, that may not have been a great idea. I was getting full. I was very selective with my next plate, sampling only a few things that really appealed to me. I was getting really stuffed but I needed to have some steamed crab legs! I should have skipped that last plate and extra piece of beef! I can't resist crab legs! Dessert? Well, maybe just one piece of something... I don't eat at Mandarin often, especially for dinner, but when I do, I usually stick to a small bowl of soup, small salad, prime rib, and crab legs. That's my surf and turf. On those points, they deliver. On this night, we all left (very) stuffed and satisfied with the food and great service. I was stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable. I've heard from many people that this is the place to go for special occasions. It was my first time to come here; it was a birthday celebration (not mine). First impressions is the decor is way over the top with two man made waterfalls that drop down into two koi ponds, a frog fountain, fake bamboo poles and fake flowers everywhere, three or four HUGE fish tanks that form a wall between one of the dining areas and the buffet area. It feels like going to a Chinese grandma's house who loves to cram evey nook and cranny with decorative items. We Asians all have moms, aunts or grannies who like to hoard. I did appreciate the artistry it took to make the beautiful fruit carvings though. A variety of choices when it comes to soups, salads, fresh fruit, hot Asian style entrees, fried food, saucy dishes, sushi, pizza & fries, stir fry meat and veggie station, even a roast beef cutting station. At any AYCE buffet you sacrifice quality for quantity. The food was just ok but the meats were tender, veggies were not overcooked. The staff kept the serving platters clean and replenished, and the food was kept at a decent temperature without drying out. My favorite item was the chocolate dipped marshmallows that tasted home made YUM! My least favorite item was the sushi where they used sweet mushy bananas. Very reasonably priced at $16.99 (doesn't include drinks) for a weekday lunch. Very cordial attentive staff who come by frequently enough to refill drinks and clear dirty plates. Great for large parties (ours was 21) and families but make sure to make reservations because they're really busy even during the weekday lunch rush. read more

2018-02-17. Mandarin is an AYCE franchise restaurant serving Chinese, Japanese, and Canadian dishes. The restaurants have the same Chinese themed decor with a pond filled with Poi near the entrance (a feng shui thing). The dining area is sectioned off, a system consistent at all locations to provide semi seclusion to accommodate larger party bookings, corporate functions, and the like. Linens line the tables, but the warm lighting adds little to the ambiance as it's crashed by the higher noise levels. Servers clear tables and take care of drinks, otherwise, it's self service. Their buffet is extensive offering well over 100 items, covering appetizers to desserts. Weekends usually have premium offerings like crab or lobster, but prices are also adjusted for it. Prices for weekdays are the upper end of $$, weekends are on the lower end of $$$. Unlike the Korean and Japanese AYCE places, Mandarin doesn't hold you to a maximum 2-hour booking. They do accept reservations, and every location fills up during dinner hours, so it would be prudent to make one if you have a part of 5 or more. While there are some mainstay dishes, it's difficult to rate the food as it changes. All the items are labelled and provide a calorie reference in case you're concerned about how much you're consuming. While I like this, I find irony in it. If you're concerned about caloric intake, you should not be dining at AYCE. If on the other hand, you came to pay the exorbitant prices because you want the variety vs the quantity, then you don't need or care for the info. Maybe it's all just a Jedi mind trick to plant some subliminal message in your sub-conscious that will trigger you to think you're full? Nah, I'm sure it's just FYI... In general I'm not a fan of AYCE Chinese, but the place was designed to accommodate larger groups, and we had 18 in our party. If you want to know the type of dishes they serve, see my pics (there'll be a lot of them!). I only rated the things I've tried. Overall, it's not a bad place. There's enough variety here to satisfy everyone. While I've not had anything spectacular, I've also experienced much worse at other restaurants. I will give them one thing though, they're the only place I know if that makes Chinese Choux Profiteroles, one of my favourite desserts of all time since childhood. This location of the Mandarin is in serious need of some TLC. The furniture is tired and old, seats and tables in rough shape. It just felt surprisingly shabby inside compared to other Mandarin locations I've been to. Decor aside, the staff here are incredibly friendly and attentive. When I call in for take out (definitely the way to go!), they are quick and the food is always cooked fresh to order. I love ordering take out from the Mandarin! I had a chance to try out their buffet at lunch last week, and first off, I recommend you try and get there as soon as the restaurant opens. I got there a couple of hours later, and since it was a slow day, all of the food had been obviously hanging out for a bit. Regardless, while it was a little cold, it was still tasty. I was able to sample all of my favourites, and still save room for dessert. I would recommend the soft-serve frozen yogurt, it's so good! Plates were removed promptly, and I really don't have any complaints. Some of the dishes were better than others, but I like the variety. I've been here a lot and they're consistently outstanding! The best part is that my kids love it. Between the super friendly atmosphere, big fish tanks, and large variety of food, my kids love it... so I love it! In my opinion, the Mandarin sets the bar for buffet food. It's not all amazing quality, but it's better than any other buffet I've been to. The one thing that sets this chain (and location) apart is the service. I don't know how every server is so super friendly every time I visit. I really feel like they treat you like royalty. They're great with customers and great with kids. The Mandarin is my go-to family restaurant. It's on the pricey side but it's worth it for me since my whole family loves going. read more

I'm giving this review quite late. The actual event happened last year when my father celebrated his 80th birthday. It was a party if about 30 or so people and we had a small room assigned for us to occupy. The food is not gourmet but was good and satisfying. We were early enough that the food was fresh. As this was a rare family affair for us, we had family fly in from as far as Florida, New Jersey, California and British Columbia. We therefore took more than an hour or so to eat and mingle. We do understand that employees in the food industry are the least paid employees however, I do take notice that one of the employees were not having the best of days and made sure that our celebrating was not to her liking. We are not sure what her reasons are - she's in a hurry or maybe we are taking too long as they may be closing soon. As we took our time taking pictures for posterity, this employee, would purposely and grudgingly photo bomb our pictures. We did not let it ruin the celebrations though, we just laughed it off and added her to our pictures. Just a suggestion: I do hope that they teach their employees some common sense and good customer service. If she really couldn't wait and is in a hurry, instead of acting surly, this employee could have done better (and maybe gotten a better tip than the required minimum) by directing us to a similarly well lit location for pictures so that we are not in her way. read more

Honestly for a MANDARIN BUFFET, this place is pretty good. Clean, friendly staff, very accompanying and acommendating. They fill up your water so quickly here and that's something I won't forget. Service wise 9/10. Food however it's okay. Average for a buffet and average for their brand. Under seasoned is the main staple of what I sense here, that being said its actually quite a plus! Came here for Thanksgiving lunch yesterday w/ my family. I must say, this is by far the best Mandarin I have been to. The staff are super kind, always smiling/asking if you need anything. The food was really good! The chefs constantly made fresh food (which is a plus). Also, they served turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, etc., as a Thanksgiving special. One downside would be that the waiters tend to take your plate away quick, without asking if your done. My cousin literally bent over to get her phone from the floor and the waitress took her plate without asking if she was done. I only go to this Mandarin even though the one on Woodbine Ave should be my go to location due to the close proximity to where I live. However, I still go out of my way to this Mandarin because a) finding a parking spot in this giant plaza is much easier and b) the staff are noticeably trained better here. The food is not great, but I believe there is a reason why all the other buffet restaurants I've gone to in the past have shut down while Mandarin is still very much alive and kicking to this day. You just have to accept that buffet quality food will never be consistently better than a-la-carte places and you get what you pay for. Sushi can be a hit or miss but most of the times the salmon quality is acceptable. They stopped serving crab legs which is a big reason why some people go to Mandarin. Personally, I find more value in eating the prime rib because most of the time it's not overcooked and dry like a lot of other restaurants. The majority of their dishes are the same every night but they do switch things up when there are special holidays (e.g. Chinese New Year). I have never once had a complaint about service at this Mandarin. They hire enough hostesses at the front in order to greet every guest that comes in. Dirty dishes are always picked up frequently. Food is refilled quickly. Staff are always smiling and accommodating of your requests. I can't end the review without mentioning their piña coladas! They're my favourite. I normally don't order drinks at restaurants but I find that the majority of drinks are reasonably priced. There is Asian influence, but other than some traditional "Chinese food" such as chicken balls, and wonton soup, a small (cooked) Sushi bar, a few Asian inspired veggie dishes and some seasonal "special menu items" -- it is mostly north American cuisine. The food there is excellent regardless of what inspires the chefs though -- and that is what is important ! Clam Chowder, Roasted Salmon, baked mussles, Prime Rib for dinner, with mashed potatoes, corn and Yorkshire pudding, with brown gravy and au jus. (does that sound Chinese to you?!) A full salad selection, hot and cold seafood selections, a massive dessert bar and 8 flavours of ice cream -- its amazing -- and versatile. Having a romantic night out with your loved one? They can provide the ambiance needed. A 60th birthday party? They can seat you! Team get together? Yup -- they have room for you too! In all this location has 6 separate dining areas all with beautiful decorations. And the staff, are always super friendly and attentive -- I have never reached the bottom of my soda glass! The owners of this location also make it a point to travel the dining area and introducing themselves to the diners and asking for feedback so they can improve on any shortcomings. May 22 Sunday night dinner review I like AYCE places, I've been to quite a few such as dragon pearl, etc. Mandarin is usually not at the top of my list. For my dads birthday, we decided to come here. Its Sunday long weekend, so we booked a reservation for 4:30pm when they open, to avoid long line ups inside. We asked for a table closer to the entrance of the room, rather than at the back of the room, so my dad who uses a cane, does not have to navigate around tables and chairs to get back to the table. Of course when we get there, they point to a table at the back of the room! I'm like... ok here we go with problem #1. After that, it was all good. Service is excellent!! Food selection is not bad. Luckily the place was not packed, so no crazy line ups. Lots of selection!! Atmosphere is nice and relaxing with huge wall fish tanks to look at. Sushi selection is not bad. Ice cream section for the kids, dessert tables looked good. For a birthday celebration, they come and take a picture of your group, and print it out for you. They put it in a magnetic sleeve. And birthday boy/girl/DaD/MoM gets a slice of bday cake with candle!! This was a nice surprise!! You do need to sign up and print out a birthday coupon from their website. I would have gave this experience a 5 star, if they gave us a closer table as we requested. Lots of parking! Never had to ask for water refill, and they come around to clear plates pretty quick. Also, they never told us that there was a time limit or that we had until a certain time. They never tried to rush us. Maybe because it was not busy... Impressed from beginning to end. Made reservations for 7:45pm during the weekend for Mothers Day. We got there a bit early and there was a massive line up. Right when the clock struck 7:45 we got our table. Excellent timing. The lady that greeted us and directed us to our table was all smiles and super polite informing us its not usually this busy and apologized that we had to wait even though we were early. The food is excellent for an AYCE. In the appetizer section I liked the shrimp cocktails the best. They were large shelled shrimps and tasted very good with the cocktail sauce. Some other items that stood out for me were the crab legs and the salmon sashimi. The crab legs were quite large and pre-cracked for you so it was surprisingly easy to get at the meat. I must have eaten 8 crab legs myself. The salmon sashimi were fresh and thickly sliced and were always available. You can actually grab the sashimi yourself unlike other places where a server gives them to you. In the dessert section my favourites were the creme brule and the chocolate covered strawberries. I went back for more strawberries but they were all gone. They tasted that good. In the ice cream section there was the yogurt ice cream which comes out of a machine and your standard bucket ice creams. I liked how there was melted chocolate syrup as an added topping. Another thing that impressed me was the service. Whenever I came back with a new plate of food, my old dirty plate was already gone. The place is also kept very clean in the food section and I saw a worker replacing all the tongs in the middle of the night to keep things extra clean. I have been to Mandarin before but never at this level of quality. There must have been some change in ownership or something because its much better than before. I have to admit that there was only one reason we visited this restaurant. At the Toronto zoo we received a coupon to get free panda plush with a buffet purchase. My kids talked my wife and I into going so they could get their own pandas. We are glad they did. We were pleasantly surprised. Mandarin is a chain of restaurants in Canada. It is pleasantly decorated and there are like four different dining areas you can be seated in. The waiter comes out with hot towels to clean your hands, which my kids loved. There are 8 to 10 buffet tables with an ample selection for any kind of picky eater you may have with you. There was a very good selection of sushi, a well stocked salad bar, and lots of Asian dishes which all tasted very fresh. The dessert bar was also huge. You can get soft serve ice cream out of a machine or you can scoop it out of tubs in a freezer. There were also pies, cakes, brownies, etc. After you are done with the meal, you get another warm towel to clean up. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. For the five of us, two adults and three kids, it was $64 US dollars which is not bad for a buffet. We would definitely visit a Mandarin again! read more

Been to this location maybe 3 times already. Once you enter the restaurant, almost every single employee says Hi and welcomes you to Mandarin, once you walk by them. Food was ok, but there were a few items I tried that I didn't really like. They had dim sum for Chinese New Year. I tried the Haw Gao (Shrimp Dumpling) and Siu Mai (Pork Dumpling), I liked the siu mai better, the haw gao shrimp was mushy. The honey garlic ribs were way too sweet for my taste. I loved the potato shred salad, it had a slight crunch to it, which made an interesting texture. The prime rib was also very moist and tasty. The fried chicken wings were crispy & moist, which were yummy. I also like the creme brulee it was nice crisp topping & very cream in the centre. I have been at the Mandarin many times for lunch and for dinner with a friend or with family or sometimes just on my own. I do like the display and the variety of oriental asian food thats displayed at the restaurant. Its very clean and fresh. Their salad bar is the best I have seen at several other buffets. I always have a salad before the main meal and of coarse their soup. Its all good. i love their Won Ton soup and their Clam Chowder its hot and thick tasing I recommend them both. Usually in my WonTon Soup I add chopped onions and a dash of soya sauce its very good and gives the soup a flavor do try it. I love the small shrimps in the salad bar and fresh caesar sald to I like it and would definately recommend the salad bar at the Mandarin. Their maim meals vary from sizzling Roast beef or Corn beef both good soft and tender.They have a selection of chow mein dishes and seafood to.The only thing I don,t like is that they put on too much sauce over the baked fish dishes and their BBQ spareibs. I wouyld like them to have dry spareibs as well. Their knives could be sharper as well when you cut your roast beef the knives are a bit dull. Other wise eating at the Mandarin is fine and plentyfull. The deserts are very good to. I like the sherberts and the ice cream and fresh fruit to. They have many cakes to if you have the room to eat deserts. The price,s is moderate and if you are a senior like myself you get 20% off the regular price lunch or dinner. I usually go at lunchtime its cheaper for one roughly about $18.00 senior rate. I would recommend the Mandarin to friends and for business lunches your guests will be more than satisfied. Ok take out I came in and went to take out. Order some dishes. Brought it home it was a bit cold but that normal. Location order: The music was too loud for simple conversation. It made it hard to talk and listen to the staff. I was ordering where the staff clock in. Staff: This is how they got the one staff. Staff were nice and very friendly. Confirmed the order even offices my a drink when I waited for free. Good for the staff. FOOD Nice bag the package was very nice. The rice was WAy too SALTY. To the point it was not good. The price for the food was ok for what I got. The parking lot for when I arrived very nice and free. Over all not sure about going back unless they did not add salt. read more

Our experience on my daughters birthday was more then pleasant. It was now to see so many smiles from the staff the cleanliness of the Buffett and rest rooms above par! The owners are present and welcome you personally. They were very nice to my children and never experienced any discomfort allowing them to help themselves This is normally the case at buffets. The price was what you'd expect from the franchise but our family (4) left full and happy and will be returning for $80 inc tip $64 before and we stuck with water. AFTER ALL ITS A BUFFET! Joe and Lily never stopped smiling worked though problems and made us feel important even as our section got busier. The only thing I could think about that was not perfect was the language barrier. We had a hard time understanding mostly everything that was said to our table. From the moment you enter to the moment you leave enjoy the great tasting multiple flavour foods and endless desert buffet in style and comfort. Like usual this Mandarin location is great. We enjoyed the difference varieties of chinese food plus the specialty food Items for chinese New Year. When we walked in we were greated by this lovely women(Sabrina) with a big smile and looks like they really appreciate your business. She walked us all to the table was so pleasant. We where then serviced by Annie agian very pleasant and greeted us. Then started with our meal of course all delicious. As we where eating agian we were greeted by the Jerry Lin the Managing Partner and asked we are enjoying our meal. This location is so great we do come here 1 per month and take out as well.
