I've never been to Mandarin, but have ordered takeout quite a bit. They are fast and cheap and their portions are generous for the price. Nothing has stood out as great, but the fried rice, the orange chicken, the dumplings and several of their soups have been good enough for me to order from them again. I think 3.5 would be a fairer rating than the 4 I'm giving them, but if you live in the downtown silver spring area, their price and speed of delivery are hard to beat. read more

Solid Chinese takeout and carry out food in the downtown Silver Spring area! Did takeout from this restaurant the other for a late lunch and glad I did. The food was prepared fresh and delicious. I ordered a General Tso's Lunch Special and a Sweet n' Sour Soup. All were prepared perfect and tasted excellent. Food was ordered and ready right on time; roughly 10 minutes from the time I walked in and placed the order. Not sure with what the food would look like as this was my first time coming here, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The General Tso's Chicken was still piping hot even after driving back home for about 15 minutes. And, most of all not soggy or mushy!.... something I can't stand when ordering takeout!! The plate and servings were hefty and quite generous. The chicken was a mixed between white and dark meat. It was seasoned just right and so crispy, even after sitting in the container for my drive back home. The General Tso sauce was very tasty as well. My only gripe is that the dish comes with fried rice and I am not sure with what's up with most of the carryouts around the DMV, but a lot of them served this yellow - orangish fried rice that is not the most appealing to me, but I must honestly admit....it was dang good. Lol. I prefer a more wok-charred, brown fried rice over the neon fried rice served here and other places around the DMV. The Hot n' Sour soup gets a thumbs-up and good marks from my end. It was tangy, spicy, and sweet all roll into one. A delicious bowl of tofu, mushrooms, tamarind, and spices that aim to please. In all, Mandarin Restaurant is a solid option when in the Downtown Silver Spring Area and you are looking for something good to eat. The owner was very pleasant and he greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. His wife was very friendly as well and made sure I had all the proper fixings I needed to complete my dish; including my request for extra soy sauce and hot chili oil which complimented and elevated both dishes very well. If it wasn't for the neon orange looking fried rice, I probably would've given this place five stars as a first impression. Also, they could've served more broccoli in the dish than the two pieces that I received Lol -- see pic as receipts. The restaurant itself has limited seating but it appeared to be a popular takeout service with most that came in and patroned the place. A decent winner in my book and will definitely be back to try out other dishes. read more

One thing about reviews, if things are 3.5 or less? Better believe that things are bad even if it's good that 1st time you go! I know previously I gave them a good review after first time trying them, unfortunately they've been bad after like the 3rd or 4th time. Rice completely flavorless, chicken smaller and smaller and tastes like it's been cooked in old grease each time, even looks like it with grease spots here and there on them and when using their delivery service, I noticed that they're always missing things from the notes or simple things like forks. The guy that runs the place is very nice but due to quality of the food I won't be ordering from them anymore. After getting late night cravings for a meal, I decided to sneak too Mandarin to see how they measured up on Mambo sauce wings and fries. When I arrived at the restaurant I was able to get easy parking off Georgia Ave and walk to the front. Upon walking inside i noticed that this place is only takeout due to COVID-19 and it looked decently clean. The owner was very nice and took my order. They had my food ready within 15 minutes and it was decent for a carryout. The chicken was nice and crispy along with he fries and the Mambo sauce was bland. I prefer Capital City sweet hot Mambo sauce over my this version. Overall, the food was hot and crispy and worth the value. I wouldn't go for the Mambo sauce if thats what your looking for, but all in all it was okay. read more

Ordered from the Mandarin Restaurant through Postmates and was satisfied with my order of two spring rolls, one small order of lo mein, one small order of chicken fried rice, and one small order of beef broccoli. It was made and delivered quickly but will say that it could've had more taste. They give you plenty of sauce which is good for this. Next time I'll probably order the wings. Solid 4.5 stars!! Spontaneously ordered lunch from here for my very pregnant colleague and friends while at work..and Mandarin STRAIGHT UP served some good food!! I got a General Tso chicken (extra crispy and spicy) lunch special, a large combination fried rice, a broccoli with garlic sauce lunch special, pad thai chicken special, and 2 egg rolls. The General Tso was crispy and spicy with the right amount of sauce:chicken ratio, and also served with tasty fried rice; the broccoli was crunchy and also had the perfect broccoli:garlic sauce ratio (i hate it when veggies are overcooked and saturated in sauce). The egg rolls were fried to golden perfection and had a tasty filling. My pregnant friend loved her fried chicken wings...and said her baby started kicking upon 1st bite. My vegetarian friend helplessly consumed more than of half my broccoli with garlic sauce, and my other friend who ordered the pad thai chicken said she was satisfied with it (she's a thai food lover..so she can judge quite harshly). Overall, my colleagues were beyond satisfied as lunch was promptly delivered at 12:00pm. It was pouring out & we ordered Veggie Lo Mein, General Tso's tofu, and Ma Po Tofu for dine in. (What can I say? I love my tofu!) the person taking my order was very nice and took time to check with the chef to make sure they don't use oyster sauce or fish sauce. I really appreciated that. As for my order: Veggie Lo Mein: good flavor, big portion, crunchy veggies - I have no complaints. It's filling! General Tso's Tofu: oh my gosh this was delicious. I even ended up pouring the sauce over the Lo Mein and ate way more than I should have. Crispy outside, soft inside, fresh tofu, and the sauce! I can have another order right now! Ma Po Tofu: this was also superb. Scrumptious combination of tofu & spicy sauce. Caution: if you can't tolerate spicy, you'll need to ask for mild. Spice lovers - you'll love this dish and maybe even ask for extra spicy! It was so good with the rice - part of the culprit for my overeating tonight. Everything was pretty comparable to our normal cheap & quick Chinese spot. The General Tso's chicken had a slightly different flavor than most, but it was still pretty good--spicy and sweet with the right balance of breading, sauce, and meat. The Singapore (Mai fun) noodles and combination friend rice were very good as well.
