I've had the pleasure of visiting Mandolas Italian Kitchen on Tampa Road 4 times recently, and every time I go I'm greeted with a smile and a really pleasant atmosphere, extremely flavorful food, regardless of what I order. Their Margarita Pizza is delicious from the very first bite to the last! I highly recommend Mandolas for an incredible meal that's not expensive! I've drove by many times and finally stopped in. They have a nice bar area as well as a casual dining area. Gelato counter too! I was welcomed warmly as soon as I entered. I ordered chicken piccata with grilled veggies rather than the pasta Alfredo that usually accompanies it, this cost an extra $2.50. The chicken was very tender and cooked well but somewhat bland. Very faint lemon flavor and the capers had little flavor as well. The focaccia bread that comes with meals was tasty and served with herbed oil. They have a varied menu and I'm looking forward to giving some of their other offerings a try perhaps today was just an off day. read more

This is not rated highly enough on Yelp. The most friendly atmosphere, with kind customer service and real attentiveness. I loved the happy hour appetizers- bruschetta was fresh and delicious, full of garlic. The fried mozzarella was full of flavor and stringy cheese. The minestrone soup was gobbled down in a couple bites. Caesar salad was crunchy and zesty. The main dishes were also a delight. Can't really pick a favorite- enjoyed the lasagna and the pizza! Remember- it is all being served quickly and with family style love! A real gem. For dessert there are incredible options as well. Chocolate dipped strawberries, coconut cake, cheesecake, tiramisu, a multitude of gelato flavors. Great kids options for food. And for all the rest of the stuff that's needed to go to a restaurant with kids, they have you covered there too. Both men and women's bathrooms have fully stocked change tables. Never been here before, but I really liked it! It is a fast casual italian restaurant but with higher end dishes. It was a bit pricey but the meal I got I think was worth the price. I had the Monday special, the chicken capriciossa with fettuccine & tomato cream sauce. The pasta and the focaccia bread was my favorite part! Wish they had more white wine, they had a great red selection. The bartender Cody was a nice kid and got everything to me quickly. I'd definitely go back to try the pizza. read more

The food looked great but portions are so small for the price. The Chicken Parmesan the chicken was huge but.... pounded so thin it was tasteless. Then there was not much pasta with this $24 dinner. The salad was large & flavorful except I bit into something very hard, like a rock. I've added pics. For $24 the entree does not come with salad, garlic bread, soup, nothing.... barely even any pasta with this paper thin tasteless chicken. I've added pics of that as well. The Chopped Italian Salad is large but it's not worth $19. The Side of Meatballs was decent. The meatballs were good. That was probably the best part of our order. The salad would have been except I nearly broke a tooth on a rock in the salad. The salad seemed fresh, the little pasta we had was cooked al dente' there were just only about 10 noodles with a teaspoon of sauce. In a crowded food space, Mandola's can hold its own! I heard about Mandola's from a friend but the "chain" aspect threw me a bit. When we moved to Tampa we agreed to stop dining at chains as much as possible. Our visit tonight gave me "Little Italy" vibes in the best possible way. Greeted by a lovely hostess, we were offered full service bar seating or easy counter service. We opted to order at the counter and it gave us time to cruise the dessert case. Our pizzas were perfectly crispy and the fried cheese was a gooey and crispy at the same time. We enjoyed complimentary bread and dipping oil. We tried to save room for dessert but in the end, cried "Uncle". Nah... we just took it "to go". We had driven by this Italian restaurant several times and decided to give it a go. Upon entering we discovered that you place your order at the counter, pay, then seat yourself wherever you prefer. An odd manner to all of us that left us speechless for a few moments. Once settled at our table, our food arrived within a short time. In short, the food was absolute "airplane quality" at best. The thickly sliced Itailian bread seemed more like tough cornbread than any garlic bread we had ever had. I love Mandola's! I love Italian food in all it's many forms and styles, so it's nice that I don't get the same thing everywhere I go. I may love lasagna, but that honor generally goes to Carrabbas when I want it. Here, at Mandola's I love their Mezzeluna Modo Mia along with their Italian Creme cake. So when I found a Mandola's located right here in Oldsmar, I was so excited that I didn't have to go all the way to Carrollwood or even Riverview just to get my fix. The interior is warm, colorful, and inviting, just like the other locations I've been to, so it was nice waiting for my to-go order. It's not as big as Carrollwood, which is okay since I already know what I want anyway. My food came out rather promptly, and when I arrived home, everything tasted perfectly hot and fresh. I love how I got it with a side of the parmesan cheese for the pasta and olive oil for the focaccia bread. For the perfect, finish, none other than their unique, Italian Creme cake! This was our first time at this location, a former Ruby Tuesday's. It is completely different, and wonderful! When we walked in we were greeted by a friendly hostess who gave us menus and showed us where to order our dinner. It was quick and easy. The difficult part was deciding what to order from many delicious sounding entrees. After we ordered spaghetti & sausage for husband and a Fiorentino pizza for me, we took our number placard and found a seat. We did not wait long for bread and oil & vinegar. The bread was fantastic!! Our entrees came soon after, and they did not disappoint. They filled us up, and we needed a box to take home half our meals. On our way out, we looked lovingly at the desserts. So many, and no room for any of them! The coconut cake was huge for $7.50. Next time. And the gelato flavors looked awesome. This restaurant opened right up the street from our house so my wife and I stopped by to try it out. So we stopped by after church with our youngest granddaughter.We arrived about 12:30 PM and looked around. We realized that we were to seat ourselves and go to counter and place our order. We sat for a moment and looked over the menu. My wife chose the Lasagna, our granddaughter selected the kid's pizza, and I went for the Eggplant Parmesan. But I wanted the Eggplant with any sauce or cheese on the side. I love it crisp and not covered. Clerk made a note and said "No Problem." And the tip on the check, before service. I should have elected to leave after meal. We were brought warm bread and a dish of herbed oil for dipping. Bread was really good. But one piece each, more at a cost, not unending. Plus we each ordered a salad - not included. After awhile our meals came. Lasagna, Pizza and my Eggplant - covered with sauce and cheese! Exactly not what I specified. I said this not how I ordered it and was told it came to them that way. Really? Frozen with cheese and sauce? I sent it back and chose Lasagna instead. That's three strikes for me. Sorry but Olive Garden beats you on all three things - bread, salad and crisp eggplant. We won't be back. read more

What a cool concept for Italian with a twist! We heard it was counter service & I kind of was but not the typical. First of all, they had a greeter at the door to guide first timers accordingly. Full service at the bar, otherwise you're handed a menu & proceed to the counter. If you are ordering appetizers and/or salads with your entrée, you can ask that they be spaced accordingly. You place your order & pay at the counter. You're given a number to place on your table. The servers bring your courses in a timely fashion. And you are served bread & a plate of very good dipping olive oil with spices Service is quick & very friendly, even removing used plates, etc. We started out with the minestrone & moved onto the small Mista Salads with creamy Parmesan Dressing. Very nice little salad & very tasty. We next had the gnocchi. My husband had it with meat sauce & I had mine with marinara. Both sauces were delicious. And then there is their bakery & gelato stations for dessert. The cookies were amazing! And the gelato looked incredible! I believe there were 8 flavors & they looked very appealing. We were so excited to be invited to the soft opening of Mandola's long awaited Oldsmar location and it did not disappoint! We started with the bruschetta, I'm not sure how something that looks so simple can taste so good! I had the Italian wedding soup which is both hearty and light at the same time. DH went with the chicken piccata and said it was excellent...I snuck a bite and the sauce is divine. Don't forget to ask for the focaccia and oil, I'm addicted to it!! We finished our meal with a hand piped cannoli and espresso for DH and a slice of the Italian Cream cake for me...the slice is so big I took some home. Where do I even start ! So I assumed this was a sit down Italian restaurant and to my surprise it was a " sit down look at the menu then walk up to the counter and order , get your own drinks " kind of place WHICH was totally not the vibe my family was going for that day BUT so glad we decided to stay the food was phenomenal ! Ordering was easy , Believe it or not I ended up liking that I ordered when I wanted and it was served to me and I could refill my drinks at my own pace ! They service you olive oil with the spices and fresh bread which was out of this world ! The garlic fries were probably the best I ever had and the fresh parsley was my favorite ! Service was great the food was ready so fast , we can not wait to try more and hopefully Next time have room for gelato ! I have watched as this place transformed from Ruby Tuesday to this Italian place. Here are my hits and misses: Hits: interior decor. Very bright. Fun soccer team flags hang from ceiling. Friendly workers. Tasty grill taste for veggies. Good, cold on-tap beer. Desert and coffee bar is fantastic. My pasta with shrimp was very good. Misses: The cost is outrageous. For what I paid for pasta and shrimp, a salad should be included. This is from the lunch menu. I included a tip at the walk-up counter, with no advanced knowledge of how service was going to be. If, by chance, I was unhappy, could I get a refund for my tip? We received 2 skimpy pieces of bread for dipping, even though I had 3 people. I'm not sure if I could have asked for more. Mandola's will be reserved for special occasions only. It's too expensive for regular visits. read more

Very disappointed . I'm from Houston, and very excited when I saw that a restaurant from home was here. How WRONG I was. The pasta very under cooked (more than just al dante). The sauce was cold and dis proportionate to the amount of pasta. We ordered a dinner portion and it more like a lunch portion. After reviewing not so great reviews, we decided to check it out for ourselves. It feels like a cafeteria or a mall food court. Very nicely decorated and Italian feel. A nice bar and a stand selling cakes and another with beautifully presented ice creams! Lots of people working and some funny t-shirts worn! You receive the menu upon walking in and go to the cash register to order and pick up your drink yourself. Pick a table and they bring you your food. They start with some bread and oil. Nice oil but the bread was a bit hard, but sort of buttery which was nice. Then we received a very cold plate with a salad. Good salad and dressing. Then they delivered the meat lovers pizza and the Monday special, a chicken Milanese Capriciossa with a side pasta. The pizza was well presented, the crust was just the right thickness, lots of toppings, but mediocre at best. The chicken was delicious, but it was topped with an arugula salad drenched in à vinaigrette dressing. It would definitely be better if it was simply lightly coated. Had some onions, tomatoes, and mozarela that went well with it. The side pasta with a cream sauce had little to no taste, very unfortunate. The pasta seemed over cooked and extra soft. We made our first visit to Mandola's in Oldsmar and it was pretty decent. The restaurant is very clean. When you walk in, you're greeted by a large bar that looked very inviting and I can see this being a nice space to hang for a girl's night out. Enjoy some apps and some bomb drinks, that can be a great vibe. The dining area is open but the tables are pretty close together. That didn't bother my because it was not that busy when we were there. I can see it being somewhat of an issue if it's a packed weekend or popular dinner night, but even then I can't see that being a huge turnoff for me. The food was good. Keep in mind I'm giving this review as someone who doesn't eat pasta, I went for the experience and my family are huge pasta lovers. The hubby loved the fettuccine Alfredo and I loved the shrimp scampi. They were very well seasoned and I had plenty. The chicken Parmesan was not a favorite of mine. I love chicken Parmesan but this one was not it for me and I won't order it again. I got my son a chicken breast to go with our left over Alfredo and he loved it. He said it was very well seasoned. The big hit for all of us was the fried mozzarella. They were DELICIOUS!! And when I say delicious, I mean DELICIOUS!! They were perfectly fried and served nice and hot!! I also got a shrimp Caesar salad and not sure if it was the shrimp or the Parmesan cheese, but it was salty. Not a turn off for me because next time I will order it plain and add my own cheese! We also got some gelato to go. I got chocolate and it was ok. I would get it again but eat it there. I took it home and put it in my freezer so it was a bit harder than I like. Not a turnoff, I will get it again. The garlic fries are also delicious. Very well seasoned and just plain ole good! I'm definitely getting them again. I give Mandola's in Oldsmar 3 stars only because the pasta was a smaller order than we thought, the chicken Parmesan wasn't that good (the main reason I went), and the lady who took our order was not friendly at all. She was very dry, she didn't welcome us when we got to the register, and seemed to be frustrated with me asking questions about the menu items. The two guys who checked on us, assuming they were manager/owners, were very nice and made sure we were good while there. I didn't want her to be the reason I gave the restaurant a bad rating/review, but if she is there and it happens again, I will speak with a manager and let them know she probably should not be the person greeting your customers, especially on their first visit. Overall a very good spot that the hubby and I will visit again very soon. read more
