I don't go to Mane + Mani often because it's a bit pricey for me but I decided to use my free coupon I received upon opening an Athleta Credit Card. Best decision to get in there for a French manicure with Michaela. I not only loved chatting with her but she was incredibly talented, attentive to detail and so professional. 10/10 go see Michaela!!! I ended up scheduling an appointment with her for my birthday. If this review was based solely on cleanliness and comfort they'd be getting five starts, but unfortunately it's based upon satisfaction of the service I received. Which was intended to be a big, loose curl, blow out. Instead I got straight frizzy hair when leaving. I was super excited to try out this place since I am obsessed with a nice blow out and figured a place dedicated strictly to blowouts could get it right, I thought wrong. The wash was excellent, they use all living proof products, which happen to be my favorite. The stylist asked what I wanted and I told her I wanted the loose, big brush curls, which I get every time I get a blow out anywhere else. I'm not sure what went wrong, but I walked out of Mane and Mani with straight, limp, frizzy hair. I get 2-3 blowouts a month, so I am certain my hair styles as I wanted it. The environment and service was excellent, but unfortunately I will not be returning due to the satisfaction of the styling of my hair. I am super disappointed considering I was excited to try this place! I guess I'll just stick to a cheaper blow out at Ulta considering they get it just as I ask. Girls on the reception desk didn't seem to know what they were doing. Looked like they were brand new employees. Not a good first impression. My makeup artist seemed also to be very inexperienced...like she had never worked on an older face before. The last time I had my makeup done, in Newport RI, the artist was an older woman with a deft hand. Almost imperceptible natural eyeshadow, the emphasis on eyeliner, a light application of false eyelashes, contouring. This time I got very heavy, dark eyeshadow, no eyeliner, no false eyelashes (though I had paid for them) and minimal mascara. I came home and felt I could have saved the $85.00 and done the makeup job myself. Won't be returning. By the way, during my long wait for my appointment to begin, a woman was having her long blonde hair curled. After the stylist finished, this woman walked past me to the cashier. In the back of her head, there was a parting of the curled pieces which made the "joints" of her blonde extensions very visible to anyone standing behind her. I hope one of her friends told her. Rookie move on the part of the stylist. read more

Good blow out, but kind of crummy manicure and pedicure. The manicurist was very nice, but the manicure was showing bubbles within an hour of leaving and the pedicure smudged big-time and was completely ruined when I put on toed shoes FIVE hours after leaving the salon. Using crappy, cheap polish and charging $46 for a pedicure is not a good long-term business model. So, I will likely go back for a blow out (even though it's too pricey IMO), but will not return for mani or pedi. Updated to add: sadly, the blow out, which had looked good, only lasted about 12 hours. It frizzed up and now, 24 hours later, my hair looks kind of fried. read more

Unfortunately, the young stylist dropped the hot curling iron on me and burned my shoulder badly on the day I was attending an important event with a sleeveless dress. The stylist did not attempt to protect my bare shoulders with any towel, robe, or smock - it is apparently not their policy and she had no idea what to do after I was burned. She hardly apologized or reacted. I had to ask for a wet washcloth and then ask her to run cold water over it. So the salon did not have a policy for protecting clients from hot curling irons and did not have a protocol for first aid when a client is burned by a curling iron. An experienced hair stylist friend said she always makes sure a client's bare skin is covered when she works with a curling iron. I also did not like it that I was in a seat with no mirror to watch what the stylist was doing (most of the seats are like this). Finally, they said the manager would contact me on Monday and she (or he?) never did. More than a week has elapsed and there has been no word from the manager, unfortunately. The burn is pretty bad and will probably leave a scar. I hope they take these comments into consideration and protect clients from curling iron burns (and other potential injuries) in the future. read more

Not worth $50 - I asked for a simple blow dry, little volume and brush curl at the ends. Instead I got flat and stick straight. It's not worth the money, I'd rather drive an additional 20 minutes and go to a Dry Bar or just do it myself. read more

My experience at Mane + Mani where I received a manicure (Shellac) & pedicure (regular polish) was nearly perfect and then... ...my manicurist cut my thumb. It was bleeding a bit and she noticed pretty quickly and put some styptic powder on it to stop the bleeding, but nothing was done to disinfect or start the healing process. In hindsight I guess I should have asked to wash my hands with soap to disinfect (but would have been nice if she had suggested it). It's now a couple days later and the cut on my thumb is still tender and hurting me. I hope to receive a refund for my services - as this injury has marred what would otherwise have been quite a perfect experience. read more

I went for the signature mani. The nail tech cut and made 3 of my fingers bleed while cutting my cuticles. The color section was limited and the color I ended with was NOTHING like what I asked for. I asked to add the dazzle dry, ( which says 10 mins on the website) and I was told no. But as I was sitting there for 10 minutes under the dryer, my nail tech was sitting talking at the computer. I will never recommend this salon, and I will never go back. What a disappointment. read more

The blow-out service was definitely 5 stars however the customer service on the back side is horrible, when I booked my appointment online, their system was having a glitch, so 2 items got added to my cart, paid for 2 items but only obviously got 1, emailed and called and nothing!!!!! I'm in the service industry, in order to retain customer loyalty its customary to respond to comments, complaints or phone calls within 24 hours, not so much here......I'll definitely look into going elsewhere next time. read more

This was awhile ago but I wanted to finally give my eternal gratitude. I came to Mane + Mani one day, late March 2018, when I had been shopping around the Lynnfield Marketplace with my friend. I had just gotten out of the hospital a few days prior, and had been suffering from a serious bout of depression. I, embarrassingly, hadn't washed my hair in quite awhile. I felt gross walking around in public, even though I had a hat on. I looked up on my phone hair salons and came across this one (because I thought this was a nail salon lol) so I called in and asked if I could come in for just a hair wash. I said that my water was turned off, because I couldn't bring myself to admit that I had no excuse for such dirty hair. I was so embarrassed and humiliated, but when I came in, the woman (I wish I could remember her name) washed my hair with no judgment present. She talked to me and asked me about my day and if I had found anything good to buy at any of the shops. It was the most wonderful experience. It was so kind and genuine. When the wash was over, I was told I didn't have to pay. I want to thank you all for what you did for me this day. Your kindness outshone any badness in the world that day. Thank you. I apologize for lying about my water being turned off also, because I feel like that should be said. 3.5 stars for this location. The good: Great blow out that lasted two days. Quick and speedy-I was put in under an hour. Great service. The girl that did my hair wasn't excessively chatty-which I appreciated the day. Living proof products which I happen to love. The not so good: The atmosphere...I don't know it wasn't warm and I welcoming. I can't put my finger on it but I didn't get that luxurious feeling when I was there. The "waiting area" was super small and awkward, basically I had to sit at someone's station til I was taken. The tools looked old and ratty-they had trouble finding a blow dryer-how that is even possible at blow dry bar? Have to pay in full and I happened to make an appointment less than 24 prior so there was a no cancellation policy once I booked. Pricier than a blowout I get at my usual salon. I was in a bind-my regular salon was booked and I "needed" a blow out for an event that night. I paid 2x what I usually pay. I would return if I found myself in need of a blow out with no other options. But I won't be making a habit of getting back here anytime soon. read more

I am writing this review still in parking lot. I just had the worst makeup experience ever!!!! I look like a drag queen. Specifically said I don't wear foundation don't want anything dramatic. I had to ask woman at desk for a paper towel to wipe it off. I could stick my fingertip in that's how much is on me. Girl asked me every step of the way what I thought would look good, I don't know I'm paying you to know this!!! Going home to wipe the whole face off. I've been here twice and I'm honestly obsessed with this place. I am so sad to be moving and not get to use it again! The stylists are so friendly and sweet and do a beautiful job. Everytime I leave there, my hair looks so pretty and clean. I highly recommend Jordan if you are a blonde. She's a blondie too and is big on using products that help us blonde girls stay toned and with soft hair. She also made me look so pretty! Definitely a gem. read more

Went for party makeup for 80s theme. I guess my expectations were too high. This felt like the Supercut of makeup application. The makeup came out cute but the service was definetely not what I had hoped for. I made my apt a week ahead, the day of ( when i was doing 1000, 000 things for my party) I got a text asking me to move 30 min earlier...I responded that later would be great but not earlier. They responded they would keep my apt as originally booked. then 2 hours later they texted me asking me to confirm my apt time...i didn't respond...then the texted me a more personal "please respond" type message- again i had a million things to do to prep for my party. When I arrived I have to admit i was almost 10 minutes late. But there was no real consult, no offer of water, the makeup artist said "okay so what are we doing?" I was surprised that there had been no note on my request for an 80s look because when i booked they certainly listened to my specific description and described options of lashes etc. Luckily i brought pictures so I could show the makeup artist quickly. My friend had no picture show i showed her artist one of mine. she looked at it for a second. The makeup applications were super rushed and sloppy. My friend and I had tons and tons of fallout under our eyes which the girls tried to wipe away with baby wipes (at least my artist tried to wipe away the fallout every few moments, my friend's just left it all to the end- what a mess) They never applied any cover up to fix the mess under our eyes. They also really rushed our request for eyebrows. They just drew curved lines on our natural brows- no effort to style it like the power brows of the 1980s that I had pics of. Our eylids looked great (after much negotiation and looking back at our inspiration photo about 50 times) We had to go home and clean up and cover up our dark under eye area. i don't know where to go for better service and quite frankly more comprehenisive eye makeup. read more

I got a free mani (gel or reg!) from another local shop to give this place a try and I'm glad I did! The bar feels very clean and trendy and they have a decent selection of polishes to choose from. My nail tech was super friendly and helped me pick a color that best suited me, since I couldn't decide but knew which color family I wanted. I really liked that they had Netflix on with subtitles replaying favorites (think One Tree Hill, Parks and Rec, the Office); They have a great selection of tea and coffee, too! Something the nail tech told me about was that you can get a blowout and a mani at the same time--that's really innovative since trying to do both of those things separately would keep you in the chair for over 2 hours! Looking forward to trying them again during the upcoming wedding season! read more

I have very long, thick and curly hair, and I have yet to have a bad blowout. They always wash it very well and book me an extra 15 min to make sure I get the perfect blowout. So what compels me to write a review today after so many visits? Y'ALL I kid you not after my blowout I turned around and it was raining outside. I was pleasantly surprised!! Going anywhere post- quarantine is a bit scary. The receptionist was so polite and I was happy to see how clean and organized it was. There was hand sanitizer at every corner. She promptly took my temperature, asked me a few questions and my stylist was waiting for me! I appreciate the masks and the shields being worn. I had an appointment on in Lynnfield , MA and was very disappointed with your services. I spent 60.00 to have my hair washed, conditioned, and a blowout. I was told they could put a deep conditioning treatment in it for 20.00. It was not even in my hair for 60 secs and washed out- I asked what she used and she showed me a bottle of Loreal . I am shocked they used this poor quality product in a high end salon that advertises living proof throughout . Very unhappy with my treatment and service at your facility. read more

I booked an appt for both a gel mani and a blowout. I typically would go to Miniluxe in the same plaza for my nails, but this shop was running a special for the combo. I was super excited for a blowout as I'd never treated myself to one before. Boy, did I end up wishing I'd saved my $$$ because it certainty wasn't cheap and I looked worse than if I'd done my hair myself. I asked the stylist for loose beachy waves. I explained my hair is naturally flat and straight & that i was leaving early the next morning for a work conference, and that I specifically didn't want very defined curls for 2 reasons: as it inevitably fell out they'd look terrible & I feel like Shirley Temple with little girl curls. I tried to chuckle and explain that I can't do hair so my main goal was to get an extra day out of my hair since there's little free time at my work conference. She then said, "Sooooo... you want me to curl your hair with the flat iron???" I have no idea! I explained I can't do hair. Isn't she the one who's supposed to know what to use and how? I honestly answered that I wasn't sure what would work best and continued to describe my natural hair in case that would help her. She then had to go through several different tools and kept changing her mind on which to use after also commenting that some weren't even working (by the way, I was quite literally the only client when she started so shouldn't there be plenty of working blowout required tools in a blow dry bar?). When she spun me around in the chair I was horrified. I had huge, ringlet curls like one gives a little girl. We'd spoken twice about how I part my hair (& she'd seen it that way when I arrived), but I had no actual part in my hair - pieces were just everywhere. My hair looked very frizzy with strands all over left out of any curls. And after I'd explained I don't like tons of hairspray and that too much would also cause my hair to look bad as the "waves" inevitably fell out, she had locked me in like a helmet head with hairspray. You could see the crunch. I also have side bangs which she just ignored and almost tried to hide them in a curl. The gel polish was very clearly old and running out. The manicurist even commented on the fact that it was running out and giving her trouble. Therefore, I especially didn't understand why she kept using it. Not only did the mani start peeling off within 2 days (where it normally lasts about 8 days on me and up to 14 days on many), but the polish receded from the tips of my nails so it looked like it had worn off when it was brand new. I admit I should have said something to the woman at the desk (she possibly seemed like the manager) but I didn't want the girl who did my hair to hear me & I was so disappointed and shocked that I just couldn't spit anything out. Many times in the last couple years I've thought about going back but then I'm afraid I'll just be (again) heading home looking a mess and just washing it out. What a way to basically throw away $75 (or so. I admit I don't know exactly how much it was anymore). read more
