You can get a complete dining experience here, starting with the views of affluent villas on the far shore of Lago de Sul, and the fascinating suspension bridge that spans it. Parking is ample, and it seems that despite the leisurely air of this Setor das Clubes, where the residents of Brasilia come to unwind, you're bound to find yourself in the middle of something popping here. There are several varieties of each type of dish, for example, you can get rice with chicken or carne de sol (sun-dried beef) or even whole grain if you're health-conscious. There are plenty of tempting seafood offering, surprising for the interior, but I prefer to stick to the staples: rice, beans, meat with legs. I especially enjoyed the eggplant and the caramelized pineapple, as well as the tender leg of lamb prepared with rosemary. I can't say I was amazed by a risotto-like mixture that was featured. I was impressed by the novel system of recording the weight of your buffet choices on magnetic cards, rather than on paper tabs. The patio area outside is a bit fresher and less crowded (with hammocks!) than the tabled inside area, and eating outside is a possibility once you've registered your plate in the buffet area. Also, unlimited free bananas at your table could never be a bad thing. If I were awarding stars just for the quality and value of the food, I'd be inclined to go with 3, some of my choices just didn't overwhelm me with flavor and freshness. I do understand how quality can sometimes suffer in a place that serves the masses such as Mangai, nor did I regret anything I put on my plate. However, the super casual, convenient atmosphere, the large selection, which is sure to provide you with at least one satisfying choice, and the incredible desserts make this chill spot one worth returning to. read more

I ate here based on a recommendation from the staff of the Melía and they did not disappoint. We arrived to realize that no one speaks a lick of English so learn Portuguese or get a translation app on your phone. We ordered what turned out to be Shrimp Risotto and it was delicious. One of the best meals I've had. Though it said it was a dinner for two, it could've fed four. Please give this place a try. For two beers and a meal for two, under $25 is not bad at all. read more

I went with a group of friends an hour before they closed which was probably a bad idea. Most of the food was stale and dried out. There seemed to be a large selection but it just didn't taste good. The meat was very tough and dry. The salad bee look good and there were plenty of delicious desserts. In fact none of the people I was with enjoyed the food. read more

This should be a great place to enjoy a bit of the Brazilian northeastern cuisine, but it isn't. Service is ridiculously bad. The waiters make you feel like they are doing you a solid favor by acknowledging you; and they take forever to bring whatever you have ordered. It is really bothersome. Now, the food is quite bland and at many times it is cold since this is a self service restaurant and apparently they believe it is unnecessary to keep the heat on. Last time I was there, due to a relative's birthday, the options were severely reduced and again completely and utterly tasteless. To be completely honest if I never set my foot in this place again it will be too soon. There are far better places in Brasília. So, unless you enjoy being largely disappointed, do not come to this restaurant. It is just not worth it. read more

As with most of our reviews in Brasilia, the experience was significantly more positive because of the people we met along the way. Our waiter an inquisitive 20-something cheerfully helped us along in a mix of English/Portuguese. As you enter the restaurant you receive a magnetic card which records your purchases. The place is huge with a kind of rustic, treehouse ambience. Mangai is perfect for travelers who want to try a great variety of Portuguese dishes in one mash-up. The buffet is huge and includes both a salad and dessert bar. You fill up, they weigh your plate and you enjoy. Nice and easy. Try the strawberry/passion fruit capirinhas! I called to make a lunch reservation for a Sunday. The person on the phone told me to send an email. I did and then had to call 24 hours later to see if my reservation was confirmed. I was then told that they do not take reservations for lunch on sunday. I have guests from the US visiting and will take them out to another restaurant. Terrible customer service! read more

Busy restaurant, northeast-style Brazilian buffet. If you like meat then they have a great selection along with lots of other choices. The waiters were fun and attentive. The best caipirinha I've ever had... they attribute it to Volúpia cachaça so I got a bottle to bring back to the States. Great food for the price. read more

It can be a little expensive but it's a very good place. With a huge variety from the northeast of Brazil, you'll always find something you like. The waiters are always ready to help you out, and it is tourist friendly, with the dishes described in English. Some of the dishes need a little more salt, but it pleases both the people who like it salty or not, it's just a matter of adding it at the table. read more
