Part of my tour covered a section of the city that is part of my everyday commute, suffice to say that Sam's facts and presentation has me thinking about all the other history I pass everyday, never knowing all that has occurred. Sam's depth of knowledge is truly impressive, and his fun and witty presentation brings the phrase tour de force to mind. Its hard to overshadow this amazing city, but I can honestly say Sam was a highlight of the tour as well. Highly recommended for travelers, locals, and anyone that wants to discover a bit of the magic that hides behind the everyday.

Sam is very educated on the history of NYC along with its architecture. He keeps the tour interesting with fun anecdotes and historical stories. On the Foundations of New York tour, we did 2-2.5 hours of walking around lower Manhattan: Battery Park to the Customs House to NY Stock Exchange to Trinity Church to the 9/11 Memorial to City Hall..just to name a few! The tour was extremely comprehensive and Sam knew such great details about each of the spots. Sam is also very friendly and answered several questions that we had along the way. All in all, this tour was a great experience - we learned so much about lower Manhattan and its history as well as the architecture. It was fun and interesting. Sam is a great guide who is knowledgeable, friendly and clearly loves what he is doing. It was a great value for everything! We are definitely looking forward to doing more of Sam's tours in the future!

I'm going to try to entice you and not spoil the experience because it is thoughtfully curated and should be experienced live, in person. We started with one of the inspirations for Ghostbusters! Right off the bat, I was hooked as I love that movie and anything Dan Aykroyd. We learned about a Secret cave in Central Park, the iconic Dakota Building, we passed by Needle Park, where "Waiting for Mr Goodbar" was filmed in 1977 (RIP Diane Keaton!), and saw, among other sites, where James Baldwin lived and discussed art and films, like "The Exorcist" with Toni Morrison. That was a fascinating film review to read and learn about! You finish the tour where Edgar Allan Poe wrote and first published one of the most famous poems ever written, "The Raven", in The New York Evening Mirror on January 29, 1845. I had no idea I lived so near to such fascinating history! I'm grateful to B.O.T.D. for being such cool teachers! I am very much looking forward to taking additional tours with you to continue this unique journey of my complex and beloved City.

Doris was a wonderfully thorough and astoundingly lovely tour guide. A true local, she led us around the neighborhood while greeting friends around Harlem and asking questions about us and our time in New York. She pointed out all manner of interesting locations; houses of Renaissance legends like Zora Neale Hurston and Marcus Garvey, the former locations of the Cotton Club and the Savoy, and current projects like the restoration of the Apollo and the Schomburg Center. Lunch was delicious, a soul food buffet with some of the best mac and cheese and collards I've ever had. We gratefully went an hour and a half over our expected time, and only had to cut _that_ short because of prior engagements. I feel very lucky to have met such a knowledgeable and charming person, and even luckier to have been given a glimpse into the history of one of the most dynamic and interesting places and times in America. We owe Doris a return trip to complete the second half of the tour, and I think it's well worth your time to take a trip yourself.

For the first 15 minutes we were yelled at by bicyclist and joggers and when we complained to the tour guide, he got very defensive. He gave very little information about historic landmarks and would google the information and play it back to us. Our so-called tour was 1 hr & 40 minutes when we paid for 2 hrs. I blame this company for not vetting him and he was not qualified to be a tour guide.

The forecast was for rain from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm so when I arrived, I asked the guy at the front desk if we could change our ride for one of the tours later in the day. They run tours at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. He responded and said that it was going to rain all day. I told him that was not the forecast and that it was supposed to be clear in the afternoon. He said that weathermen could not be trusted and he did not change our schedule. Shortly after the ride started, it rained heavily and the temperature was 39 degrees Fahrenheit. We were dressed for rain but didn't have gloves and between the cold and the wet, it was very rough. Within 20 minutes, one of my 14 year old sons was freezing and crying like I had never seen him cry. We had to leave the tour. When I got back to the bike shop, I asked if I was going to be given a refund. The same guy said immediately "No, you didn't ask to change the schedule." I was astonished. The first thing he said was that I didn't ask to change the schedule when he knew that was the first thing I asked. He had no problem looking me straight in the eye and lying. We don't get to New York often as we live in California. This guy really ruined our day and who knows when we will get back there.
