I went in to look at the wigs. The store has a lot of great products in make-up and hair supplies. That is why I gave 3 stars. However, when I asked about a wig, the woman could not have been any less helpful nor more dismissive. I wasn't dressed in any odd way and I am pretty nondescript so I cannot imagine my appearance immediately turned her off. I asked if they had hair pieces and she literally walked away. Hmm, they've pulled some weird moves before but today pretty much sealed the deal for me. I usually stop by after the gym so I'm sweaty and with my gym bag. However, I usually spend a decent amount and am not weirdly hovering. I was looking for a particular brand that they keep in my usual area. And some random looking girl (who I later found out is an employee) was smelling a sealed container. She started laughing out of nowhere and then got this guy working in the store to come over and ask if I needed help. Long story short this girl creeped on me even while the other guy was helping me. When he walked away she still creeped on me. It was quite odd and thinking back on it makes me feel like the other reviewers are right. Something is fishy here. Ahh. There's so much here to and sort through, from tacky costume jewelry to wigs to hair and nail products; it was a bit overwhelming, but in a good way. I'd have loved to spend hours here just looking at everything, but unfortunately I was on a time crunch and just dropped in to get a new flat iron. In terms of brands, think more Sally's Beauty Supply than Sephora or Ulta. That's just based on my cursory glance at everything and the fact that the highest-end brand of straightener they had was Chi - no Paul Mitchell or anything super salon-quality, at least in the styling tools section. So I head downtown, low and behold.... the hair I need just waiting for me to purchase. I needed an additional 5 packs so I asked an employee if she could check in the back for me. She quickly checked and came back with the additional packs. The employee at the register was very friendly & pleasant. As expected the price is $1 more than beauty supplies further uptown. Rude! From beginning to end. Betty (Mexican) lacked so much common sense, I honestly thought she was joking. I asked to try on a pink long wig. She said one was not available to try on and said I should try on a different color. I asked for a straight hair pony tail, and she explains none are available only ones with clips and wavy and suggested I remove clips. Her attitude was horrifying. I asked for someone else to help me instead and another sweet girl was able to find tons of straight hair ponytails without the clips. I couldn't stay. I was unable to make sense, as to why they would hire someone so unkind and unwilling to help. I complained to the "manager," whom was not empathetic. Rather than apologizing or addressing my concern, she excused the behavior by stating that the Betty chic is pregnant. Never , once have I heard such a thing ! No one was able to provide me with information regarding the owner. The next best thing to do is contact the Better Business Bureau. I did not deserve to be disrespected. read more

I've been purchasing from them for years as they are the most convenient location for me and they usually have good stock. Service has always been hit or miss, usually a miss. Tonight, Sunday their sign says they close at 6:50 PM. They had the doors closed at 6:45 with people still inside. They refused to let 3 customers in even though we told them we knew exactly what we needed. After a debate amongst staff they let us in. For the time they wasted we would have been in and out on time!!! I'm also deducting stars because they are constantly out of a very popular Wella toner - stock up! I go to a different location in the Bronx for hair extensions at a much cheaper price. They have a huge NYX collection and KISS cosmetics. I picked up 2 eyeshadow palettes by KISS that was a dupe to Urban Decay's Naked Palette and Kat Von D's palette and the quality was actually pretty good. read more

I am a tourist and purchased goods for my spouse in this store, the receipt says that you can return the goods within 7 days, from the time of purchase, my wife did not receive the goods, so they were not used and printed. After 2 days, I brought the goods to the store and they refused to return the money for it, at first they said that it was a hygiene product, but it was a household product, then they offered an exchange, but I just wanted to return the money, they refused with rude words. maybe I'll go to the police and I won't recommend this store to my friends, it's very bad. If I BUY a wig cap, it means I AM willing to buy a wig. I find that it's a ridiculous policy to forbid taking photos of oneself to compare which wig looks best on the basis that you want to avoid people trying wigs on "for fun". If people want to do that "for fun", they will anyway, whether they get to take pictures of themselves with a wig on or not. A policy as such will certainly not keep people from wasting their time and yours if that's what they want to do. There is no point in taking photos of a wig on a mannequin. What I want is to see how a specific wig looks on ME, on MY complexion. And I want to be able to compare from one photo to the next to determine which one I want to purchase. I carry my OWN Trader Joe's shopping bag and they have NEVER questioned me when I'm loading it up with stuff off the shelves... I've expected them to - but it has not happened................. yet! I'm sure if I headed straight for the Exit instead of to the check-out counter, then yes, I would expect a tackle from behind... (Not a good look!) I'm a long, long time customer but they don't seem to acknowledge that... I don't think it's that they don't remember my face, I just think "culturally" their customer service etiquette AIN'T in the DNA... I've experienced many other beauty supply places and I've received the same nonchalant coldness at them ALL! (An exception goes to "MANE BEAUTY" on 8th & 31st) Nice folks there! :) Prices are standard to me.... Options for products are amazing (if not overwhelming too!) Great selection here but the people SUCK, as does their "store credit." I've gone to this store for YEARS. Normally I go in, grab what I need, then jet out. Today I went back after two days because I decided to exchange some items. First off, two women - one regular employee and a manager, inspected every single item that I was bringing back. Prefect fine with me, except they were giving me dirty looks the entire time and asking me a million questions (e.g."why are you returning this?" and "what was wrong with this?"). Seriously? Finally the manager says: "Everything looks fine. You can go get what you need." I head down an isle in search of new items. I'm trying to grab something in the back, and the woman working in the back tells me to move so another customer can get by. Both the other customer and I looked at her like wth?! It took everything in me to not say anything off the wall in response. Appalling. So I grab my stuff and head back to the register. The lady manager is gone so I speak to the employee that initially helped me. She rings me up and I ask if I can receive the remaining money back or on my card. She tells me that she has to ask the manager if they'll give me money or store credit. To her defense the bottom of the receipt says store credit or exchanges. So fine. If I was to receive store credit that would've been fine. The lady cals over a guy manager. He says nothing to me, and is doing something behind the register. A minute later he gives the lady a paper to give to me. The paper? A receipt with an "IOU" for store credit. I questioned it and they just told me that's how they give credit. Wow. Never again. Wigs and plus a few blocks down has a great selection too AND friendly employees. read more

I am a very loyal customer to this place. After today, I will NOT be back. Today I showed the store off to two friends of mine who we're looking for color & cosmetic supplies (we are beauty school students). I explained to them the different brands carried at this store, we were checking out the testers for the NYX products. We look up, we're being watched. I show my friend where the creme developer and colors were. We look up & we are being watched. I decide I want to buy some NYX lipstick that I thought was really cool. However, I noticed that all of the other lipsticks in that line had a manufacture seal, but the white lipstick that I desired didnt & was sealed with tape so I asked why. The short Hispanic woman with the dark hair (one of 5 people watching us) answered me with a disgusting attitude & insulted my intelligence. Meanwhile there is a Hispanic man in the hair color aisle that has been yelling for assistance for approximately 5-6 mins. No one assisted him because they were too busy watching us! So he left the store - but not before telling us "They couldn't help me because they are too busy trying to make sure you guys aren't stealing, a damn shame! " So I confronted the manager, he pretended to not know any English AFTER he spoke perfect English to a customer. He didn't even have an accent. The Hispanic woman with the shaved side and red hair yells at my friend "YOU STOLE AN EYELINER", my friend shows her that she placed the eyeliner tester back in its designated area. Then the woman tells me that I stole rhinestones for nails. . . I never came in contact with those items. I told her that I am Hispanic & because you thought I was African American, you spoke about me in Spanish ... I UNDERSTAND YOU!. They never accused my friend who is Hispanic as well (but looks Caucasian) of stealing anything. The security guard and two other African employees quickly jumped to our defense because they KNEW that we stole nothing. They apologized for their fellow coworkers behavior but it is unacceptable. Essie nail polish is $6 here, versus $8 in most drug stores. They also carry Orly and OPI at average or slightly below average prices. The other cosmetics are the cheap brands like NYX and the stuff that most Bushwick dollar stores carry. I will definitely be back here when it's time to do my hair again. They carry my favorite shade of dye (it's a hard one to find) and were well stocked on bleaches that Ricky's are usually sold out of. read more

If you can't get to your favorite beauty supply store (BSS) in Downtown Brooklyn or Queens, this is the next best thing. I tend to prefer the BSS in the outer boroughs because they're a helluva lot cheaper and have a better selection of items for ethnic hair. This store has everything I need and the prices aren't bad at all. They have lots of variety and some items you don't need at all but will buy anyway just cause you can. I've never been a hair extension girl, but if I were I'd start here. They even have curly kinky hair pieces so if I wanted to be Esperanza Spaulding for a day I totally could. The only annoying thing I experienced here was from a very juvenile acting Korean guy who worked there. When I asked him how much the earrings were, he took a big swig of his soda and said with a huge laugh "Hey, I don't know" then walked away. Not the best customer service I've experienced, but when I thought about it later, it did make me laugh. What a jerk - but that's NY. Eh, who cares anyway? I found a great place to get my hair stuff. Prices seemed reasonable but not a lot cheaper than other stores for products I've bought in the past. Gosh, I miss places like this after living in Asia for a year. They have EVERYTHING! Being weight-conscious with my luggage when traveling, I dropped by for some conditioner for my thick, coarse, frizzy hair and I found the following: -travel size shampoo, conditioner, palmer's coco butter, etc. -OPI and Essie nail polish -high and bargain end lines for almost all types of products, so price range to fit everyone's budget -hair extensions -tons of nails supplies -a MILLION other things :) Basically it's like a Sally's on steroids.
