This is an epic place! Always good. Tonight for example we had swordfish kabobs, pork kabobs and beef sticks. The swordfish was out of this world!!! So was the pork. I recently tried out Manhattan meats when I found out my favorite bakery was closed for the holidays. Manhattan meats has all kinds of meats (as the name suggests) but I was just there for a sandwich. The price is reasonable and the sandwich was good, but it was on the smaller side (which is fine for 1 but my hubby and I usually split a sandwich). The main drawback is that although the meat counter is in the grocery store, they are separate. So if you say, want chips and a drink to go with your sammie you have to pay for your sammie at the meat counter then go wait in line at the grocery store register to pay a second time. A good option and probably a great place to pick up meats to take home, but I'll likely stick with my regular sammie joint. read more

I've been shopping at and eating Manhattan products for years. I'm finally getting around to writing a review haha. First off, you cannot find better ground Chuck or Ground sirloin any where else. I didn't think their Chicken could get much better but recently they started carrying a free range organic chicken breast and it is so delicious and tender. Of course they have staple products like the teriyaki skirt steak and bacon burger, but they also carry lesser known products like hangar steaks and flat iron steaks. I cannot recommend them enough!!! If you're local and haven't been or are in the area on vacation you should definitely check them out! read more

Manhattan Meats is INSIDE the Manhattan Beach Market and is a separate business. I ordered a bunch of sandwiches here for a party I was having. Rented a cute beach bungalow in Manhattan Beach, bought drinks and chips and such from Trader Joe's and found this place on Yelp. Thought it would be fun to have fresh sandwiches cut up at the party. They don't do platters like Safeway but I bought six or seven sandwiches and was able to cut them into four pieces each at the party. I got a variety -- roast beef, turkey and veggie -- with condiments on the side. There's nothing ground-breaking about the toppings or bread, it's pretty standard stuff but they use Boar's Head meats and cheeses which are good quality. It took a little while to make so we cruised around the market while we waited. It's a great corner store with all the basics plus a few gourmet items, fresh fruits and veggies and cute beach and touristy must-haves. The sandwiches were only about $5 each so this turned out to be quite a score for the party. The cupcakes cost twice as much and we had a bunch left over. All the sandwiches were eaten! If I were in town again, I'd definitely head over here for sandwiches and chips and go to the beach for a picnic. read more

Went in this morning to buy a piece of fish for my son. Just moved to the neighborhood a few weeks ago, and have been here every Sat and Sun to purchase something for my son's lunch. This morning, for the first time, the owner, Dean Tribble, and was astonished at what ensued. I didn't have any cash. When I handed Dean my credit card, he explained there was a $5 minimum for credit card fees. I explained I had no cash and offered to pay with a debit card instead. Dean sternly replied he had no debit card machine and wouldn't take a credit card. I could purchase more things if I wanted. In today's economy this is absurd. First, Dean insisted he would lose money on the charge. As business owner myself, I am aware that the fees are 2.5% plus ~ $0.25 fee. On my $3.50 piece of fish, Dean probably still clears a good 20%+ margin on fish he purchases from the local fisherman. So even after paying my "massive" card fee he would have cleared $0.38. Let's assume for argument sake I'm wrong and he breaks even and see what the long term implications are. This was my sixth trip to Manhattan Meats. Over the course of the next 3-5 years while I live here, I probably would have gone another 200+ times. At an average revenue per visit of $8 (I usually buy more) and an average margin of even 5%, that means Dean lost $80 in profit from me as a customer over his insistence on being too cheap to cover my $0.32 credit card processing fee this one day that I had no cash and needed to buy lunch for my son. This is why small business owners remain small business owners and never become big business owners. Short-sighted policies and no grasp of customer lifetime value and the benefits of customer service. Lame Dean. This is why Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Walmart can crush local businesses. This doesn't have to be the case, and in fact I much prefer to support local businesses. I just won't support Dean anymore. This is the best butcher I've found in Southbay. Two things make this place stand out to me: the quality of the meats and the wonderful staff. My favorite cuts: teriyaki marinaded skirt steak (these are wrapped up like meat cinnamon rolls), shrimp skewers, spicy lamb and chicken sausages. All perfectly seasoned and delicious, just grill and EAT! The potato salad is great too! Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. The staff here is super friendly and helpful. They are always willing to give recommendations or help you figure out how much meat to get based on your party size. Not sure if he still works there but Brian was always really nice and helpful. They have a small parking area in back however it's kind of a small and narrow. If you have a large vehicle like a full size pickup you might want to try to park in one of the metered spots on the street. read more

We were originally recommended to go here years ago and never made the (short) trek down because we didn't realize at the time it would be worth it. Then, years passed and we have found OK meat and not fantastic meat... Move to Summer 2014 when recently, an out-of-town friend was raving to the hubby about his experience with this meat market and my hubby got a bit more excited. So, while finally back in town and having BBQ as a weekend option, we decided to head down to Manhattan Beach to check this joint out. And boy were we glad we did! The meats are great and they also don't stop there. They have seafood as well. We were luckily not hungry and would have purchased everything if we had been! We saw huge tomahawk steaks from Harris Ranch that were enticing (way too big for us at the moment... but we will be back for those some time!), debated the meats for tacos, and seriously struggled to narrow it down. After over ten minutes of gawking at foods, we opted for the stuffed pork chops (which were amazing on the Q!) and the shrimp skewers for a little surf/turf, while my cousin took home some salmon also. (It looked great, but I can't speak to how they tasted because he didn't invite us over to enjoy that with him haha.) I'd also add that it is a general store with groceries, the basics for tourists, and alcohol. I checked the beer section and the prices weren't fab, so we ended up just hitting the local grocery store later for that part of our meal. Bottom Line - This place is awesome! A half a block from the Manhattan Beach pier I thought this would be my new go to meat market. WRONG! I bought two Spencer steaks @ $21 per pound. I grilled them medium rare (warm and pink in the middle) and they were really tough. The steaks were different shapes - so I assume they came from different sections of the source side. In short, for $50 I expect that steak to melt in my mouth - not fill the spaces between my teeth with fibrous gack. Stay away! read more

Manhattan Meats is the best 'secret' little meat market that in the Manhattan Beach area. The butchers are all very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Our favorites are the garlic chicken breasts (absolutely the best chicken you will ever eat), the teriyaki flank steak (ask to have them tenderize it) and the beef tenderloin. They have hot corned beef sandwiches on Wednesdays and Thursday's until they run out because they make it fresh. They have a nice selection of fresh seafood as well as many different cuts of meat, chicken and even more exotic stuff like rabbit and you can order a Turducken from them for Thanksgiving. This is a cool local market that is near the Manhattan beach pier. I was walking in the area and decided to drop in this place to grab a drink. This market seemed like it had basically everything that one needs from drinks, to hats, glasses, sunscreen, fresh produce, frozen pizza, beer, wine, and spirits. It even has fresh fish and meats, and deli meats and cheeses for sandwiches. To me this was a big surprise since the place is not that big. I come here a couple times a week and everything is the highest quality, super fresh, and they offer free range beef and chicken, wild salmon, house made sausages and roast beef, a full deli counter, and pretty much anything else you could want. Their meats and chicken can come marinated and oh yes, the amazing carne asada. Besides the quality, these guys are awesome. We went there once, as we were looking for a Prime Rib for a holiday meals and had to order it. We told him how many people and he got us what we needed.
