There's a variety of fillings - beans, jellies, cornflakes, ice cream but only a little bit of each. Considering all the beans and jellies are canned I felt like the value wasn't completely there. It was mostly sweet milk that was a bit too sweet for me. I am glad I got to try it though! read more

Manila Mart is located in a small strip mall with parking. This small Filipino market not only has ingredients and dry goods, etc (things you would expect a small market to carry), but they also have premade meals (rice bowls, cooked meat, noodle dishes, etc) available for purchase. They also have a halo halo, which is what brought me here. My husband and I came on a Friday afternoon, a little after 4 pm. It was pretty quiet and empty, with only one employee at the counter. I asked for the halo halo and waited about 5- 6 minutes for it to be made and brought to the counter. Service was okay. The employee wasn't much of a talker and seemed a bit shy and reserved. For my halo halo dessert (which came out to $5.76 after tax), it came with 2 small scoops of ube ice cream, corn flakes, crushed ice, ube halaya (which is ube jam I guess you could call it), beans, milk (this may have been coconut milk and evaporated milk) and some jelly pieces. This was a great size for the price and perfect for sharing with my husband and our little girl dog. We ate in the car (although there is some seating with tables inside the market if you prefer). I have had halo halo desserts growing up and each of them are generally a little different from each other because of the things they use in it (although there are generally some ingredients that are common among them). I thought this one was pretty good and very tasty. I wished there was more ube ice cream though. Overall, would come back to get another halo halo and maybe even some of the premade meals. read more

I know, I know - I'm late to the party, lol. I finally experienced my first "halo halo" and what a perfect dessert for the hot Atlanta weather! For those who've never been, Manila Mart is a small Filipino grocery store, on the backside of the same shopping as "Treat My Feet" and "Cafe Mozart". Order your "halo halo" at the front counter, and they will go to a separate room behind closed doors (lol) where they create this magnificent dessert :) The guy making my dessert was super nice, and explained "halo halo" means "mixed" - hence you need to mix all the ingredients before consuming ... which was helpful to know b/c otherwise I would've enjoyed it layer by layer. The dessert includes two scoops of ube ice cream (ube is purple yam), dollop of ube jam, corn flakes (great texture enhancer), coconut strings, shaved ice & evaporated milk, and sweet beans. What a nice little gem! I stumbled upon this mini Filipino grocery store while trying to find deserts on Buford Highway. The grocery section has a decent collection of Filipino products from abroad. Lots of authentic ingredients to use for cooking Filipino dishes. Lots of interesting deserts as well, which I'm always on the hunt for. I ordered the Halo Halo (pronounced hall-o, not hey-lo). It's a popular desert in the Philippines so I had to try it. It's essentially shaved ice with fruits, jellies, and topped with different ice cream flavors. I chose the default Ube (purple yam) flavor. It was my first time having it so I was unsure how it would taste, but found myself really liking it! It's not too sweet and was pretty light, which is nice considering I just had a big meal. I will definitely be back to try some of the other goodies sold in grocery section! read more

A multi-layered Filipino dessert with a number of different ingredients, halo-halo translates from Tagalog as "mix-mix" - and that's exactly what you should do when they set this crazy concoction in front of you. I've read that there are countless varieties and combinations that can all be called halo-halo but I think this version is comprised of: red mung beans, sweet white beans, coconut jelly ("nata de coco"), jackfruit, shredded coconut, shaved ice, and evaporated milk - all topped with a small piece of flan, a sprinkling of cornflakes, ube (purple yam) jam, and ube (purple yam) ice cream. This was a great little shop for Filipino food. The significant other and I were able to find ube flavored ice cream and other Filipino goodies. The store carried dried foods, canned goods, frozen delectables, sauces, drinks, and other stuff. They also had ready to eat food that was packaged and stored in the fridge. Manila Mart is the ONLY Filipino market in Atlanta. The address has Buford Hwy but where Manila Mart is located, it faces New Peachtree Road. The shopping center does face Buford Hwy and if you park there, you have to walk up to the second floor to get to Manila Mart. It is small and has some of the same ingredients that you can find in other Asian markets PLUS Filipino yumminess you cannot find anywhere else. Such as pork and chicken lumpia, halo halo, pichi pichi, ube ice cream, etc. There is a small seating area for those who want to sit and order halo halo and other Filipino goodies. There is no menu or anything. Because I know Manila Mart has halo halo, I just told the person at the cash register that I wanted it. He told the lady in the back to make halo halo. I saw the freezer section in the back with a lot of frozen fish! When I came home, I fried the lumpias, the kids loved them. My son who doesn't care for any type of veggies, even starch but he was so impress with ube ice cream. When we told him it is a veggie. He was shocked. I recently saw Nicki K. posting a pictures of the Halo Halo dessert from here and she graciously informed me it was from Manila Mart so I visited the same day. I'm a big dessert fan so I have always wanted to try Halo Halo and man I was not disappointed. One Halo Halo is going to cost you $4.50 but the tastes and texture of this dessert was so worth it. When i first saw it, I was just going to eat the purple yam ice cream on top and then work my way down but the worker there informed me to mix everything before eating it and it was definitely the correct way of eating it since the tastes and texture was so refreshing and surprisingly. Every bite was a surprise and I love it. Since this is a Mart - you'll have to ask the guy up front if you want the Halo Halo. I think he's the one who makes it. Very nice guy. Manila Mart is a small-ish market for Filipino groceries and other items. My partner is Filipina, so this was a must-stop on our Atlanta Adventure. They had a wide variety of items including snacks, canned goods, sauces, jams, beauty products, noodles, ice cream, and more! The selection for each type of item is limited, but it was good to find things that may be harder to locate elsewhere. The gentleman working was very polite and friendly. After reading the reviews, we had to try the halo-halo here, which is a rarity in our hometown of Nashville. My partner said it is the best halo-halo she's had in the states. Don't really know of any Filipino focused stores/groceries in the Atlanta area, so when I heard about this place I was like yeah, lets check it out. They have frozen lumpia, pancit mixings/noodles etc (of course), calamansi juice, and tons of other staples. I usually come to get my fill of frozen bangus. They also seem to have a lot of premade food in the fridge that you can just heat up which is really cool. Also they have a lot of uncommon desserts-- I think they were Golidilocks or Red Ribbon products in the fridge and also hopia cakes. The lumpia also has different flavors-- chicken, pork, and I think veg. Brought my mom after a few visits so she could sort and pick out stuff you really needed and she seemed to really enjoy the ease of the store cause usually its a lot of searching at the regular asian grocers. Not sure how the prices compare since I have actually found some of this stuff at the Buhi farmers market, but it's nice to have a dedicated store that even has some pre-made options. Ok so this is their new location on Peachtree Parkway in the same shopping plaza as Ihop. It's somewhat bigger than the old store and organized better. There are also more freezers and refrigerated items. There are homemade Filipino dishes that are delivered there daily. You can basically find the same things at BHFM which is a more of a one-stop-shop for me. Still, they have more frozen items here such as ice cream, frozen meats, frozen egg rolls, frozen fish, and frozen Asian veggies. By the way, they average about 20 cents more expensive than BHFM. read more

They had a type of papaya salad, dinuguan (pork blood soup), chicken adobo (chicken stewed in soy sauce and vinegar) pork adobo (pork stewed in soy sauce and vinegar), palabok (noodles in a yellow-orange sauce with shrimp, egg, pork rinds), and BBQ sticks! I picked up the BBQ sticks and palabok- each ranged about $7-$8- ended up paying around $15 but enough food for me to eat for several meals! I am so thankful for this place! I wish they reopened a store in Augusta. Came in for some materials for pancit and also left with my favorite- ube ice cream! And some lumpia too :) the cashier was really nice and helpful. He also gave us a block of ice for the frozen food and ice cream since we told him we came all the way from Augusta. There's very few Filipino establishments here in Georgia, but Manila Mart is the place to go to get those hard to find Pinoy ingredients and goodies. (like Calamansi juice!)
