We are so happy to have found Music Lab Folsom! When our son got serious about drumming, we were…read morelucky to find Music Lab when they first opened in Folsom. His drum teacher is phenomenal. He has such a calm spirit and really has a natural way of teaching. He also has an excellent musical education and background. Our son keeps improving his skills and we owe that to his experience at Music Lab. He also took an interest in guitar and bass. He first started on guitar and then moved to bass lessons. His bass teacher is also incredible. I think he could play and teach just about any instrument. He is very calm and intentional with his lessons. He is another good fit for our son. One of our favorite things about Music Lab, beyond the lessons, are the semi-annual music showcases that they put on for their students and their guests. It's the perfect way to showcase the students' new skills and highlight their growth through the years. The owners, teachers, and staff are all so supportive. Music Lab also puts on great summer camps with fun and talented teachers. Last year, our son did intermediate drum camp, and this year, he tried a musical theater camp. I love that there are so many areas for him to expand his talents! I even got brave and took voice lessons. My teacher was very patient and talented. I learned so much and improved my skills, too. I can't say enough good things about our experience at Music Lab!

Although all of my communications with them have been through text, they have been warm, responsive, and thorough! The violin teacher, Babak, is passionate about teaching and has a great desire to promote a sense of love for music within his students. We are very happy we found this place.

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!…read more I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn't played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn't know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4! I can't say enough about Kim's expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they're frustrated by a musical challenge. :-) Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I'm convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age--even through an online platform.

He treats every person with respect, and meets them where they're at. I learned a lot from him. Possibly even more importantly than what I learned though, was how much fun I had! It's hard to find wholesome, fun ways to meet folks, and the sweet crowd these classes attract is really something special. I made friends, and even met someone lovely that I dated for a while! Obviously, your mileage may vary, but I hear a lot of stories like that from his students. If you are looking for a way to intensely focus on building mastery of your voice quickly, you should realize this isn't the place for that. You share Eli's brilliance with a dozen or so other people, so your individual time with him is limited. In this case, If you have the funds, I'd suggest taking his class and finding someone else to work with for 1-1 sessions. I've enjoyed seeing a variety of teaching styles doing this in the past. If however, you're wanting to brush up on your skills, are brand new to singing and want to have a compassionate place to learn how to get started, or if you're more advanced and want to be introduced to new skills like learning to write songs or sing with an instrument you're playing... or if you just want a way to meet community that is structured and focused on a fun activity... I would highly recommend Eli's group classes.

Eli is so skilled at creating instant community in his classes. He creates a safe space for us all to be vulnerable with one another. And in some ways - singing and performing in front of others is super scary and requires you to be super vulnerable in order to connect with your performance piece. The creation of this community from the first class allows all of us to immediately feel comfortable with one another so that we can get to work and support each other every step of the way leading up to our concert.
