There is a large swimming pool style bowl with 2 different depths (a deep end and a shallow end), half pipes and rails, and about 1100 square metres of space to share it with the other skaters and riders. At any time of the day, any day of the week, especially on the weekends, Maroubra Skate Park is packed with regaular skaters and bikers who like to show off their stunts, practice their game and test out their gear. Smack bang on the beach is this diverse, large fenced off area that has more than enough for everyone - in fact it seems to attract a healthy mix of skaters, young scooterers and BMX'ers. The park is loosely broken up into two parts: The Street Course is large an d open with silky smooth cement that's very fast - perfect for cruising around and utilising the various banks and/or either of the central pyramid funboxes. The coping on all of the quarters here is perfect.

The weather was heaps good and had great company which made the experience even better. $26 for group events having your own section for 1.5 hour is not bad if you ask me. At first while waiting for the rest of the gang to arrive I thought to myself, awesome! Can't wait to hold Hawkeye's bow ... 15 minutes later and ended up with a wooden bow and arrow - fail. Little did I know the first section were the professional players training for whatever they are training and we use the amateur bows haha. Not sure whether all the staff there are like that or not, but the facilitator we got was pretty dull and boring. Seemed like she hates her job and just needs to be there for the sake of it. But doesn't really matter who's there to be honest, you don't really need to speak to them anyway, just listen to when to pick up the arrows and when to shoot. Can't wait for round 2!

Yes, we do pretend we are in the hunger games, especially when we get to shoot balloons in the final rounds. Although universally refered to as «the gym» by students, the Macquarie University Sports and Aquatic Centre is actually so much more. The complex's facilities are extremely impressive; no matter what time of day or night you find yourself there, you rarely need to wait to use your chosen piece of equipment; a pleasant contrast to many gyms around the 6pm mark. The centre also offers its members free use of its multiple squash, tennis, basketball and netball courts, as well as its indoor and outdoor pools. Swimming lessons for all ages are available here, as well as squads and the ability to leisurely push yourself up and down the pool for as long as humanely possible. The cafe attached to the gym is widely considered to produce the best coffee on campus, and - bonus! - there's never a line. In case you've committed the rookie error of coming for a swim and forgotten your swimmers, the Sports and Aquatic Centre stocks a full range of swimming costumes and goggles, plus a formidable range of other affiliated gym gear. Plus, there is a carpark with two hours of free parking - happy days! The centrex also has an impressive range of classes, at a range of times deeply convenient to uni students on campus for the day. Wanna try Tai Chi? Now's your chance! Pilates? Body Attack? Body Pump? Spin? All the old favourites - plus some newcomers on the gym class scene, the most obvious being Zumba - are avaiable. Plus, they come at student (and working-professional, obviously) friendly prices; for the non-member, classes are only $10 a pop! Compare that with the Fitness First's of the world.... If team sport is your thing, then you're also covered; the Sports and Aquatic Centre's mind blowingly popular social netball is offered three nights per week, while social touch football and soccer are on twice weekly. The whole point of Scenic Cycle is to have a fun class (think the latest jams blaring as you ride) while you bike through a particular route (Hawaii, Switzerland, you name it!). There are massive screens set up in the front of the room that you follow along with as you ride- having the road in front of you somehow manages to take away some of the pain associated with exercising. New bikes, a great instructor, shower facilities, centrally located, class times that are conducive to people who work...this place is great.

Better traction in the middle lane here. No need to worry about catching up with the other swimmers swimming laps in your lane. A great pool. Unlike the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, I had to go into the slow lane here once, and yet I enjoyed uninterrupted swimming, and achieving results in half the time than in the fast lanes at other pools. Quite large and spacious. Great range of classes and learn to swim programs. The showers stay on until you turn off the taps in the change room facilities here. Soap is available too. Again a great pool. Fairly good rates. Location wise, excellent. Only a short stroll from Central train station.

What the hell am I talking about? Prince Alfred Pool is what I'm talking about. No, not talking. Gushing, in strictly the non-chatroom sense. But I took a punt on a friends advice and hit this pool up for an afternoon swim and I stand before you a changed man. Firstly, it's free until November. Nada, nix, bupkiss. Secondly, it's a hella nice pool, with clean, clear water, lotsa lanes, and - the best - a huge slope of grassy wonderland for sunbaking and, sure, perving, because why not? There's a big wooden deck under a tree, umbrellas, a cafe, and state of the art changerooms. We even smuggled a bottle of wine in and got a little sozzled in the sun. Fine a lot sozzled. What a day though. I particularly enjoyed the city workers who busted out the budgie smugglers and were sprawling out in the sun while getting through a fat stack of reports. Now that's how you read, son. That's how you read.

It's a great design: grassy hills, big yellow sun umbrellas, with detailing in dark wood and swimming-pool blue. There's not that much to it: a 50m pool and a cafe, change rooms, lockers, and little fountain thing for toddlers to run around in. It's highly green rated : sustainable materials, tri-gen energy, water recycling. The pool is clean and heated (though not too too hot). Suitable for wintertime laps, though getting out of the pool is the unpleasant bit. Today I was a bit unimpressed with people's pool etiquette (the slow lane is not for standing around in with your boyfriend, it's for swimming, morons - and a few stray legs from the play lane heading into the lap lanes, hmph), but I guess that's life in a public pool. It has the standard fast, medium, slow, and leisure lanes and mostly people understand what that means. I'm pretty thrilled that I had a swim in late May, and lay around in the sun. Go Sydney. Go Prince Alfred Park. And the best bit: it's free for the first 6 months! (Until some time in November 2013...)

It's way off the ground, yet the nets are so strong and secure, and you generally don't feel afraid of heights at all. None of the kiddos were scared. We enjoyed the ball pit and the huge spaces up in the nets to run around and bounce it. Definitely worth the price for the hour! Wear closed-toed shoes, and know that you can't take anything up with you except a phone and your car keys - no hard-brimmed hats, no jewelry, no watches, etc.

The course took me a couple of hours to complete all the levels, and is absolutely worth it. There are nature paths around and a picnic would top off the day here with a good feed and lots to drink. The best time to head there appeared to be early in the morning before the crowds. I cannot recommend gloves enough!!! Either take a pair of gloves or buy a pair there!!!! Definitely check this place out, good times to be had.

The flying fox is amazing, and climbing play is better than ever. There are a lot seating but we could do with more shades. The only bad thing about this playground is dragging the kids out afterwards and finding a restaurant that is happy to play host to wet and sandy bottoms. But that's why we pay big $$ at Darling Harbour ;)

A delight for both children and adults alike (and the self-proclaimed in betweeners like myself), this is a must see portion of the harbour. The kid's playground is spectacular. I agree with my fellow reviewers when they say it may be Sydney's best playground. If you can elbow the kids off the swinging, rotating disc, definitely do so, and take a ride. It's a surefire good time. And what about the slide? Yes, you can glide down the wide slide with several mates by your side (couldn't resist that one, sorry). During the weekdays around lunchtime, however, the Quarter becomes the "play and lounge" center for the nearby corporate crowd. With public ping pong tables (BYO paddles and balls), it's a good place to get a little physical without turning your business suit into a sweatsuit. And while you're letting your hair down, bring your lunch on over and sunbake in the public lounge chairs. It might just be the perfect pick-me-up to get you through the rest of your work day.
