I cannot rave about Manning enough! I have a very "unique" background, that is hard to fit in the jobs I was applying for, due to a career change because of certain circumstances, leaving me burnt out and depressed in the job application process. I went months and months of applying endlessly, and the only interviews I seem to get were the ones where I had a connection (and I'm not particularly good with networking to begin with, so they were far and few). I searched for 'top recruiters in Boston' and let's just say they all disappointed. I won't mention them by name, but they wasted my time, gave me false hope and had little follow-through on their part, with no contact for months, and I would get pathetic, measly replies after hounding them. After being burnt several times by useless recruiting agencies (you know who you are), I decided that I will try the next one down the list, with no expectations whatsoever. I worked primarily with Dave, and he was so caring and kind, and I finally felt I had my own cheerleader in this dreadful job hunting process. Within a week, he had 3 interviews lined up for me. Within 2.5 weeks, from first contact, I started my new job! I would've started sooner if it weren't for the holidays. They really follow-through, and when they say they're looking for openings for you, they mean it! Before every interview, I had a call with Dave to prep me for what's to come. I didn't even ask for it -- he just did it! They went above and beyond, and they continue to keep in touch with me to make sure all is good in the new place. I met several former Manning candidates in this job and other places I interviewed, and they all have nothing but amazing things to say, and it's no surprise there. I know at this point I am sounding like I get commission for endorsements lol, but the truth is, I was in a difficult spot, mentally, financially, and I would want anyone else in a similar situation to find the same help that I did. I got in touch with Manning Personnel Group quite awhile ago while I was looking for work, it caught my attention after I saw so many good reviews. I scheduled an appointment, and went in for a meeting. The staff seemed friendly, the building was nice, and I had a meeting with one of their agents. Now I want to be very clear about this; the agent asked me exactly what kind of employment I was looking for and I went into detail with him about the array of work I was potentially looking for and he said "great, you've given me a wide net to cast, I'll keep in touch with you but if you don't hear back from me message me every 2 weeks and i'll give you updates." So, great I thought. I didn't hear from him again, despite repeated emails. When he finally got back to me after a couple months, he told me their resources were stretched thin, and that was the last I heard from him. If at the meeting he told me "to be honest, we might have trouble connecting you with the employers you are looking for." That would have been totally fine and understandable, and I would have just looked for another agency right away. Even if he told me they were swamped with work, that would be understandable. But he had to give me the false impression he was searching and going to help me, when he really did absolutely nothing. I'd give 0/5 stars if I could, cause I literally received to help or direction whatsoever. read more

I first reached out in April, and it took three calls to the office in order for them to confirm the receipt of my resume. I was called in for an informal interview with Kerri Burke, then never heard from her again. I emailed her a month later asking to reconnect and get things going, again this took two calls and an email. She asked me to email her an updated resume, which I did, but have not heard from her again and it's July. Hollister Staffing reached out to me, set up an interview, and processed me all in under 3 days. Hollister's office is also much bigger, and the staff are much more professional than those at Manning. I would not recommend using Manning unless you just want to sit around for months. read more

About a year and a half ago I was looking for a job. I was unhappy, unsatisfied, unstimulated and underpaid. It was time for a change. Having been in the staffing biz for a short while I know the biz and I know the games the agencies play. Ring ring... "Hello" "hiwehaveatonofgreatjobsthatyouwouldbeagreatfitfor...just come in and fill out 4 hours worth of paperwork and take another 2 hours of testing..." Ugh. I know because I was on the other end of the line for years. 95% of the time there is no job. They just want to get you in the door to beef up their stock. Not so with Manning. When they called me I almost didn't take the call. I was SO done with the run around. I was fed up. But Kelly explained that they were a family owned small "boutique" (whatever) agency and that they actually did have a job in mind for me. Against my better judgment I went in and 2 weeks and 3 interviews (with the same company) later I had a job. Not only did they get me a job they were able to finagle a significant salary increase. This review is long overdue. Seriously LONG overdue. I came upon the good folks at Manning after I began my job search after graduating college in the summer of 2008. I'd been applying endlessly on my own through job search sites such as Monster and Indeed, and I had been to the flashy staffing agencies with gorgeous offices and fast talking staffers(Beacon Hill Staffing and Daniel Roberts, i'm look at you!)--but to no avail. Finally I turned to good 'ol trusty Yelp, and I found Manning. And boy oh boy am I glad that I did. I met with Mary, who actually sat and listened to what I wanted to do and gave me a realistic outlook on how the job market was looking for that field. Mary was always EXCELLENT at staying in touch with me whether or not she had work for me...fortunately, they found me an awesome temp-to-perm situation within days of meeting them that I LOVED. They do a great job of making sure that both parties involved are happy with what is going on. I've since been laid off from that job, but they have made sure i've had work essentially every day that I wanted it. They are true professionals with a warm personal touch. These ladies have definitely made my Christmas card list! In a nutshell: If you are looking for a job temporary or permanent, go to Manning. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

Colleen and Kelly work really hard to find not just the right position, but the right position with fantastic companies. Although I did not find employment through Manning (I eventually found a great job on my own!) I was sent out on a couple of good interviews with very prominent companies during an awful economic period. I worked with Kerri and Kelly who took the time to find out what I was looking for, only contacted me with matches that made sense for me, and prepared me well going into my interviews. Kelly even chatted with me waaaay after work hours while she was eating dinner so Kudos for commitment and willingness to go the extra mile. My impression was that the majority of their clients tend to be staffing for accounting, finance, and office support roles. I was not experienced in these areas or really looking for a position in those fields but Manning Personnel Group was willing to take me on anyways, and keep me active in my job search. There isn't any annoying paperwork or placement exams and they respect your time just as they would if you were a paying client. Extra bonus: their starting hourly wage for a temp to perm position was a bit higher than other agencies I have met with ($16-21). If you are looking for a job in Boston, Manning Personnel Group is a good way to go. read more

What a great company to work with! I have been working in the job they placed me in for a few weeks now and I'm so thrilled with my experience. I've already begun referring my friends. I found Manning by doing a google search for placement companies in Boston that have a good reputation. I was sick of working with agencies that care more about the money than getting me a good job. I sent my resume by email to the general email address on their website and I got a call from Mary within that week. The office is very different from other recruiting and staffing offices. You aren't asked to fill out a bunch of paperwork or bring IDs and references, they just wanted to talk and figure out if you would benefit from working with them. So refreshing! All that other business comes later-- when they get you a job. Never did Mary try to get information out of me to sell something, she was completely honest and very blunt about expectations and opportunities. It took about three weeks for Mary to find me the right job, she even got me the salary I was looking for. My interview was on a Monday and I got a call from Mary on Sunday to ensure I was ready and to ask if I had any questions. These are things only a small business would do, and they matter the most! I suggest you contact Manning if you are serious about finding a job. read more

I've worked with several staffing agencies both in Boston and in San Francisco and Manning is by far the best agency I've ever worked with! I worked with Dan F. after he found my resume online and I'm so glad he did. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much as I've had recruiters reach out before after finding my resume online and my experience has been they either go silent after one call or come back to me with sh*tty jobs. Dan (and the rest of the Manning team - personal shoutout to you too, Tim & Kelly) are 100% on the opposite end of the spectrum. From day one they worked, what seemed to be, around the clock to get me the job of my dreams. They introduced me to companies on the daily, lined up interview after interview for me, prepared me for all interviews, touched base after,.. Throughout the process I felt as if I was the only candidate they were working with. They truly go all out for you! I can now say I've found my dream job and I couldn't have done it without Dan! Although I never took any jobs from this recruiter, I am a fan as the woman I met with was excellent. She wasn't pushy, she listened to my needs and she didn't tell me any BS about never being able to find a job if i dont take what she gives me. This is why I give them 4 stars. The reason I didn't take any of her temp jobs is I was working with another recruiter at the time too and, frankly, I liked the other recruiters jobs a lot more and they kept in contact with me daily. Manning kept in contact every few days so it was harder to schedule. I have to admit that I'm surprised by some of the more negative reviews because that was not my experience at all. I was contacted by Manning (I did not submit my resume to them directly) and was told that my resume matched some available, full-time opportunities in the administrative field. I worked with Elizabeth (and briefly met with Kelly). Elizabeth was attentive, responsive and I felt she had my best interests in mind when we discussed opportunities I would consider versus things that were outside my field of interest. Within eleven business days, Manning had a job offer on the table and other folks knocking at the door had I decided to go in a different direction. Manning Personnel was excellent from start to finish. The first time I came in, I met with Mary for about 15 minutes (which is all it really should take for a recruiter to size you up to the resume). I met her towards the end of September after I had been unemployed for almost 2 months. I wish I met her sooner. She is the only recruiter that did not think twice when I told her my salary requirements for a full time position. She was on board and ready to go from day one and sent me at least two solid job descriptions a week (maybe more) since the day I met her. When I got home after meeting with her she sent me the job description to the job I just accepted last week. Bottom line she works quickly, easy to contact, great coach and doesn't make you alter your job requirements (if you are reasonable). read more

Can't find work, discouraged and poor? Manning is here to save the day. I found myself temping alongside Business School grads, graduates of Harvard grad school, etc. I decided to interview with Manning because of their high score in yelp, and am very happy with my decision. All temp work is not the most stimulating (much of it quite mind numbing- thank god for radio), but as far as Staffing Agency's go, Manning excels over their competition for a few reasons. 1) They don't waste your time. Most Staffing Agency's have you spend a lot of time taking aggravating tests on Microsoft Office Suite programs that focus on features you will never or rarely need while temping. Manning instead spends time talking and getting to know you rather than wasting time on these tests and hours of paperwork. 2) They're small. Manning only has a few people working there. You don't get lost in the shuffle of a large staffing with frequent employee turnover. It was easy to contact people at Manning and they're great at staying in touch. I worked with Caitlin, who is wonderful and was happy to help prep me for interviews, fix up my resume, etc. Their agency isn't flashy but if you want work right away and you want someone who is there for you consistently (nights, weekends, etc), then go Manning. 3) They will get you income fast. They actually have work for you. Other agency's have a lot of ads, like PSG, but can't find people work. Other agency's feel like you are going to a sketchy used car salesman, making you feel like you will get rich with your dream job but then only give you a call to help load trucks. Many of Manning's jobs are mind numbing and relatively low paying, but so are the positions that their competition will give you, at least Manning finds you consistent work. Desperate for $? Accept the day jobs, perhaps a job for only a few hours, once they get to know you they will find you plenty. 4) Connections. They set me up with a lot of interviews for permanent positions, and varied/interesting positions at that. They have good connections for temp to perm jobs as well. I was with Manning for almost 4 months while I was in between jobs. In that time they found me work in 4 different places and had interviews through them with three other places for permanent positions. Most of their jobs were with T- access and their temp jobs had a lot of work flexibility if you had an interview for a permanent job. Don't waste your time with big name agency's that have low reviews on yelp. read more

They followed up CONSTANTLY, always kept me in the loop-and gave me some great advice. There's no BS "tests" they put you through, you don't feel like a number. Manning Personnel Group is, by far, the best temp agency in Boston. When I first emailed them they were in touch with me immediately and set up a time for me to come in. The interview was casual and just for figuring out what kind of employment opportunities I was interested in and what would be the best fit with my experiences. I've had a variety of temp jobs all at places with kind and friendly people. The temp agent who worked with me, Caitlin, went above and beyond and should be paid more than whatever she currently receives. She was clear and helpful in explaining what I would be doing, where I would be going and how I would get there. Furthermore, there were a couple of jobs that I had trouble finding and she was there at the minute I needed her to help me find where I was going. She replied to my emails and calls promptly and continually called me the minute a job opportunity opened, even if she found them after hours. If you are a college graduate and in between jobs, joining this agency is the best decision you can make. read more

She called me practically everyday with updates on interviews and temp. positions. This is my first Yelp review of any company, but my recent experience with Manning left me so impressed that I want to put the word out. I've been a CPA for 20 years, so needless to say, I've lost count of how many headhunters have contacted me over the years - both to recruit me out of a current position and to help fill hiring needs on my team. I'll admit I've become a bit jaded. Within the first week of working with Manning, they blew away every preconceived notion and bias I had towards headhunters. First, it's a family business, and unlike the nameless/faceless firms out there, it's clear that each person at Manning is invested in what they're doing and they have fun doing it. Where else can you be greeted by a friendly dog (Farrow, I think) who really makes you feel comfortable and at home?! Secondly, these guys know their stuff. They had my best interest at heart and cared about what I was looking for. In the end, they helped me obtain a position at a really great firm! Like others on here I also contacted Manning Personnel because of the great reviews that I found online. Upon meeting with them, I was supposed to meet with Colleen, but was told she was in a meeting (at 8:30am) and that I would be meeting with Mary instead. Not a problem, Mary was great-- if you like false promises! She told me that my resume was excellent and even helped me apply for a job that day. I understand that you get what you make of it, meaning that if you do not call them and email and keep in touch with them then they prob will forget about you and not contact you either, but I e-mailed them 3 times in 8 days with no response and also called them 5 times one week with no returned phone calls. I found a job on my own a few days later and I am so glad that I did. I would not recommend Manning Personnel Group. It was just a waste of time. (And $4.00) for the T. read more

I've been to several staffing agencies, but this was the first one that never called me back after I took the time to go in and interview. I followed up via email, but the recruiter didn't seem interested, telling me to "check back tomorrow" and it made me wonder if the job posting was real (probably not) in the first place. If I could give zero stars I would. I contacted Manning Personnel by email on 2 separate occasions. I was referred to this agency by two separate colleagues who use this agency to source staff. I am appalled that they can't even bother to reply, even if they can't help they should at least acknowledge emails, especially when they are from referrals. I have informed my referrers about Manning's complete lack in response and unprofessionalism. These recruiting agencies are all the same. They should realize that today's candidate is tomorrow's decision maker on whether to use their services to source candidates in the future. Mannings complete lack of response will certainly contribute to my future decisions to never use them to source candidates. read more
