WARNING: this is a biased review, i've been coming to this place since childhood for probably over…read more19 years. we live in times where the inauthentic slips into everything, where the things we are told to want are crafted for us with the best of commercial intentions in mind turning what used to be an act of getting together around a table into a confected reality, with people trying to feel special through a culinary experience, or writing about it, and chefs becoming more important than the person right in front of you. so coming back here every time i'm in town is the most sobering reality check. a place where the lady behind the counter is still the same lady behind the counter, as she has been for the last 25 years, with the same northern argentinean accent and stoic demeanor, a place where the guy behind the register, that always scared me a little, but just a little, is the same guy behind the register, grayer hair but still hair, same beard, same focus on each transaction and most of all a place where people are just normal people experiencing a normal meal they can afford without having to think how to make ends meet. 5* stars.

The empanadas of carne were fried and really moist and tasty. Chorizo, morcilla and the salad was great. The portion of asado for 2 was a little small and most of it consisted of fat but the meat was really well done and tasteful. In the end we had the flan with cream and it seemed to be home made and muy rico as locals would put it. The food alone would get a rating of 4 stars. The NOT so good part: The place has a very old joint look which is great but it is filthy to put it lightly. The wall next to us had spider webs and dirt. We had a tiny spider dart across our table as well. The first wine glass had a spider floating in it. It looked like the place was closed for months and they reopened and forgot the cleaning part completely. It is definitely a place worth going to for the food and hope they would have a clean up crew going through the place soon.

The place isn't fancy by any means, but our server was sweet and asked us where we were from, since we our Spanish didn't sound Porteño nor local. To keep ourselves on the GO we went light, ordering their dulce de leche pastel 2.5/5 was lovely but the leche was not too filled up. Empanadas carne was pretty good, packed with some flavor, crust was perfect 4/5. My friend was not too impressed with their empanada pollo 2/5; crust was thick, chicken lacked flavor. Place was overall clean, but I definitely want to try their media dia plata meatballs with mash potatoes.
