    Beef Teriyaki Don Lunch Special

Flavor was fantastic! And I added a sushi roll with it and it was the perfect amount of food. Definitely more of a dinner spot than lunch but still very good nonetheless. The waitress was very attentive and quiet.

Checked out this classic looking sushi place in Glenview. It could look like some 1970s place to be honest. Manooben is all about old school kinds of sushi. Forget about the fancy sauce and toppings that cover the fusion crap. The prices are pretty affordable and you get some good portions. A sushi place like this is becoming increasingly rare as it's become more about the atmosphere. It seems to be less about the actual sushi. The sushi here is the main thing though. It's about $6 for a roll. We got a couple of the Avocado Cucumber Maki because this was the one that was vegetarian. Pretty simple but it tasted fresh. The service by the lady who may have also been the owner was also friendly and it wasn't a long wait to get sushi. Got some pretty good sushi, and we could come back here again. It's better than it looks. The menu is pretty simple, and there's also ramen and other noodles but of course sushi is the main thing.

The Korean auntie who served me was so kind and friendly. After paying bill I asked if she sold sprite and she said she was out. She insisted that I take a coke on the house and I said no I will pay. She refused my money and handed me the soft drink. I left the money on the table and added it to the tip I left. Great food, great service, small business that cares about their clients. Quality and service A+.

Wonderful food, service and environment. The place is really cozy and comfortable with cute decorations. The woman who served our food was friendly and kind. I got the beef rice dish in the stone bowl and my sister got a bento box. Both of us were happy with the flavors and it was very fresh. 10/10 will be back soon!

Did y'all know manooben stands for maki/noodle/bento? When I found out I was like ooohhh DUH lol I used to come here when I was in hs, literally 20 years ago, I'm so happy to find out it's still open bc it was great 2 decades ago and is still great now. It's tucked away in the back corner of a strip mall. But parking is never an issue bc they have a large lot. We stopped by for a quick lunch one weekday. The service is so nice and quick. They have excellent lunch specials, as well as dinner specials. The pricing really seems like precovid/normal pricing. This spot hasn't been hit w inflation, which is lovely. I remember their udon noodz always being so good, and it hasn't changed one bit! I got the manooben bento lunch special. The udon noodle soup was so good. The salmon teriyaki was so good as well. I always loooooved the potato salad and still do! Solid nigiri. I will def keep coming back to this lovely Korean mom n pop restaurant.

This spot is a hidden gem. I ordered the hand roll bento box which was two giant hand rolls and a half portion of udon soup. It was the perfect amount and affordable at $18. The fish was so fresh and the hand roll was delicious. The udon noodles are made in house, which you can totally feel when you eat them. Chewy, perfect consistency and fresh. The broth was amazing. Only 4 not 5 stars because their crab rolls are imitation but the fish is so fresh, honestly, who cares.

You know that moment in Ratatouille when Anton Ego took a bite and it transported him to a time in his childhood? I had the same nostalgic ratatouille bite when I ate the nabeyaki udon here. I don't know if they make the noodles in house but just the way the noodles and its texture felt was comforting and took me back to a different time and place that seemed familiar. Maybe it was the setting of the restaurant which made me feel like I was at a family members home and having their home cooked meals but that's the vibe that you get at this place. It's nothing fancy or pretentious; just good homemade comfort food. They have an extensive menu composed of bento boxes and sets so you can't really go wrong with what you choose. If you're looking for some good Japanese comfort food, definitely try this spot out!

Manooben is a restaurant that offers healthy and delicious food in a casual setting. Prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. Presentation is reasonable, neat and varied but not the most elaborate. The restaurant itself is decorated with a myriad of food, flower, and asian items. Service is friendly and reasonably quick. Here are my thoughts on the different items I tried: Bento boxes: Great deal. You can try a variety of items from udon to rolls to tempura to salads all at a reasonable price. If you're not familiar with all the available dishes, this is a good place to start. Tonkatsu: Nicely tenderized with a slightly crisp batter. The tonkatsu dipping sauce has a good sweetness and smokiness to it. This is as good as other tonkatsu preparations by other restaurants in the area. Beef teriyaki don: A nice healthier preparation, although the vegetables might overpower the beef in this dish. But the beef is tender and marinated nicely while the sear on the onions produces a sweet and savory flavor to help tie the carrots and broccoli together. Sake don: Nice thick slices of salmon sit on top of fluffy, lightly vinegared rice. Simple and satisfying though elements such as sesame seeds for crunch and seaweed salad for saltiness could've improved it. Salmon teriyaki: An alright preparation, a bit overcooked for me but still enjoyable. The vegetables on top added a nice touch. Miso soup: A bit unusual of a preparation, almost as if there's a little fish or other type of seafood in the broth. This added a pleasant savoriness. Udon: Noodles were nice and chewy while the broth had a nice hint of soy and seaweed in it. Potato salad: A bit plain -- soft and slightly gritty but it goes well with the saltier elements. Tempura: A bit on the soft side for the batter, but you get a generous portion of it in the bento box and the ingredients are fresh. Seaweed salad: Standard flavor you'll find in any restaurant. California roll: One of the better versions I've had. The rice was nice and soft, though a little cold. The roll was packed fairly tight with the creamy avocado and crisp cucumber tempering down the saltiness of the fish roe. Spicy tuna roll: Not really spicy, but a nice simple take on the roll with fresh vegetables. Overall, this is a place I could see myself visiting often. With the assortment of menu choices, I can get many different flavors at a reasonable price for Japanese or Korean food. The depth of flavors and flavor combinations may be simple, but it helps to highly the food quality and is healthier than drenching food in sauce. Textures could be a bit more pronounced, but many items on the menu are supposed to be soft or smooth. But still, the food is satisfying and filling -- and the bento boxes are a wonderful deal.

This is a really nice restaurant. The ambiance is great, the ceramics are all very nice. The sushi was delicious.

My favorite of the night was the rose tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The popcorn chicken was also good and paired well with the sauce it came with. The bossam was on the dry side and the seafood pancake was pretty standard. The fries were good but wouldn't pay $10 for a basket of fries if we came back next time. The corn cheese was also good but the plate was small. There was a call button at each table which was convenient. Food came out individually as it was ready instead of all at once which was to be expected for our party size.

The redecorating and ambience was modern and sleek, with fully operational and clean water features. Grills were gas-operated, one grills there own meat items here. I really liked the natural-stone mini-subway style tiles on the walls. Like a lot of Korean places I have seen, the seats had minimal padding. I think this would be a great place for a date if you're in the area, a prize in an unassuming strip mall anchored by an auto parts store. Food was great, they happily and generously provided more banchan and also gave us complimentary bowls of soy paste soup that was practically jumping out of the bowl. As civilised as I tried to be, using my chopsticks and the cooking tongs correctly, I still felt like I completely stuffed my face like at a trough '^_^ it was all so good. Maybe to accommodate the neighborhood, the banchan was not nearly as spicy as we expected, so that might be great for someone trying Korean for the first time. Some might balk at the prices of some items, such as $24.99 for 1/2lb of raw meat, but we had a very enjoyable time and hope to come again.

Like another reviewer mentioned, this was cooked and prepared (Mongolian style) in the kitchen. It came out on a sizzling skillet. It tasted delicious.
