There was a very warm welcome after a long and exhausting trip from Switzerland, which we enjoied a lot. The imaginative variety of different breakfasts is nearly too much, but also special wishes were no problem. We had a good start every day. :) The single room is in front of the road and with open window (summer) there is also during the nigth some traffic noise, which i had no problems with. The twin room looks to the back side of the house and is very quiet. Karen and Chris were very helpfull to us and gave us a lot of useful hints and tipps for our stay in Plymouth. Plymouth is a nice city and the Gallery Guesthouse a very good place to stay there.

Some of the rooms are accessible from inside the house, and some have outside doors, which is kind of nice so you can come and go easily. The room was very comfortable and had all the modern things you'd expect, while still maintaining that country charm. We opened the windows and enjoyed the fresh air and never even left our room. All in all I really felt like a welcome and appreciated guest and I got the sense that the hosts took pride in their local area and in inviting you to their home, which makes such a huge difference. They even had maps and transport timetables available and helped to make a dinner reservation. The place is also conveniently located within 15-min walking distance of St. Austell rail and bus station.

This review is purely for the restaurant (we are staying elsewhere this trip) - which was excellent. Husband and wife team, where the husband serves and the wife is the chef. Pictures tell much of the story! Nice menu's and temptation at each turn! My wife went vegetarian and had the stuffed squash which looked spectacular and apparently tasted great!! I had the trout which was the same - good looking, prepared wonderfully - and both with delicious sides! Couldn't resist the desserts - my wife had the Cornish ice cream while I succumbed to the Cornish cream tea sundae - crazy good - way too many calories of course but I didn't miss a morsel (see the before and after pics on my profile pictures!!). Haven't stayed at this hotel, only attended a wedding but it was a really lovely place to spend the…read moreday. The owner is a treasure and the staff went out of their way to ensure everybody had a lovely day. Some areas of the hotel could do with a retouch but nothing was too shabby and it kind of suited the atmosphere. The drinks were quite expensive but then you already expect that in a hotel. Had a tour of the rooms and the bridal suites are lovely. Some of the executive suites are impressive too, lots have been newly refurbished.
