What a fantastic event! I came for the second seating (3:30pm) of Return of the Mac. Even though…read morethere were a lot of people, it was well-run (lines moved quickly) and there was plenty of mac & cheese (I was worried that second seating = less options/vendors) All the mac & cheese options were awesome. Feast's & FARM's tied for #1 for me! *Feast's offering was an Aged Bacon Garganelli (Cheddar Cheese Garganelli, Chicken Fat Breadcrumbs, Kimchi Hot Suace, Popcorn Cheese Sauce, Shallot, Fennel) - Feast is my favorite restaurant in town, so I feel a little biased but it was amazing mac & cheese. First of all, garganelli is one of the best pasta types and they made it a CHEDDAR CHEESE garganelli! I loved the texture from the breadcrumbs. Overall, just a well-balanced mac and cheese (never thought i'd say that about mac & cheese) *FARM's offering was Giant Elbow Noodle with Smoked Gouda and Chinese Peppers - good lawdy. They need those chinese peppers on the menu, please! I've had a lot of chinese peppers in my life and Farm does 'em justice! Shout out to Ivy Tech's Smokey Bleu Quack & Cheese - I usually don't even like bleu cheese and the duck was perfectly smoked and juicy - whew!

My favorites were Farm, Upland, and Uptown Cafe. The event ran super smooth and people weren't having to wait for long. Only thing I'd recommend is to drop the price a little lower since it's a college town and/or add a few more places. Great event overall!

I love the many different options that they have available, but at the same time, it might make more sense to have some activities that involved a lot of people (ie a bigger/better dance floor or something of that matter). Overall, a good event, but I would like to see more next year, something that would make the ticket worth the money spent!

I can't even begin to imagine how they go about this task! Adult Swim is a benefit event held at the Children's Museum. Only in its second year, someone decided the first year was a smash hit because tickets increased by $15 this year (or maybe that was the surcharge for cleaning). All tickets sold out though, so that's a good sign! I'm not really sure who the benefit was for though.. maybe some additional information about that next year would help raise even more money Unlike other events I've been to, this one didn't FEEL like the event was sold out. Lines for some of the food and drink tables had a few other people in them, but the event planners did a great job of making sure there were enough tables and enough room that everyone could have a good time. Really, the night was about being a big kid in the museum into the night, and everyone I was with had a blast! Here's hoping next year is just as great (and not about $15 bucks more expensive per ticket!)

Kokomantis is one of the more unusual tourist attractions you could ask for, but it's even listed on Atlas Obscura. Scrap artist Scott Pitcher crafted Kokomantis in 2012 and it's proudly placed in downtown Kokomo at the corner of Sycamore and Washington Streets. The torso and wings were crafted from World War II fuel pontoons, while the legs were crafted from traffic light poles (I wonder if that would work for me?). Construction took a reported 220 hours to both create and position this remarkably unique structure. Truthfully, I'm surprised I don't see it pop up in more horror movies. The sculpture is 22' long and 17' high. Kokomantis includes a sign that reads "please do not climb me; I'm ticklish!" and at one point had its own Facebook and Twitter accounts. I believe the Facebook account is now inactive. The Twitter page still exists, though there have been no new posts since 2016. You've got to love a city that would embrace a giant praying mantis. While the love doesn't seem to be quite as passionate as it used to be, it's like any oversized sculpture - if you are going by it, you're going to stop for a photo op. Seriously.

Driving north on US 231 into Greencastle, it is hard to miss this giant four piece mural that was…read moreadded in fall 2019 by international artist Andrei Krautsou (who signs his work Key Detail). Funds were raised by the local people and a matching grant led to a search for the right artist who would work with the people to create a mural that would capture the spirit of the area. What makes this mural unusual, other than its gigantic size, is that it covers four grain silos (only two are inactive). The round surface makes for a pit of a challenge to fit full images in view. The artist did a rough sketch on the surface and then used a lift and spray paint to finish the job in just a few weeks in September. The four silos have unique themes. On the left, the silo features a bald eagle for American Strength. The next features a cow and horse for Agriculture. The next silo, which is a bit larger features a giant violin representing the Arts, particularly DePauw School of Music & Arts. Finally, the last mural features a whitetail buck, a covered bridge, and morel mushrooms along with the artist's tag on the back. Common to all the murals is the artist's use of plants and flowers to fill in the space around the central images of each silo. The space not only creates a sense of identity, but offers a vibrant first image of the city as visitors arrive. Well done! I enjoy discovering these installations by towns that are fighting to stay appealing to locals and visitors alike. Review #3121
