You could spend quite a while browsing the shop and then visit one of the pubs in the village, there seem to be quite a few. The Bull, The Horns, The Crown - and all these are in walking distance of the shop. If you want a nice Sunday out with a pub lunch, then visit this place. Unfortunately this shop can no longer stand the test of time and will become an online shop early next year, which is a pity because these things are not nearly as impressive in pictures as they are in person and in a large collection. But times they are a changing and collectors may find it easier to purchase online instead of travelling to a small London antique store, but to me that takes half the fun out of having a collecton.

In a street that is clammed with rather old-fashioned styles and slightly up tight attitude, Howe is a breath of fresh air, they offer furniture and lighting traditionally handmade in England, as well as a range of lighting. Also they usually do events that are mostly related to what they have in store, but that non-the less are really interesting and educational. Weather its a lightning exhibit, where they show the most relevant pieces that have illuminated us for centuries, or as they did in November, they held an exhibit curated by the owner of the shop. The only thing I can think of to compare this to is the Alameda Point flea market back home-this market is about half the size of that one but chock full of antique treasures. On 2 separate trips I picked up a georgian paste bracelet, a Welsh victorian funeral dome, a taxidermy squirrel, a really well done French oil painting with a Pre-Raphaelite look, a painting of a dog wearing a soldier's uniform, 2 1920s dresses, 10 new old stock bathing beauty statues for 5 pounds each, and this really cool beaded floral banner that came out of a church. Oh and a super rare french jet tiara circa 1910 that I didn't buy the first time and luckily found again on the second trip-it was even missing a piece and the seller dug around and located the missing piece for me! You really have to get here early as a lot of the good stuff is gone by 8 and some of the dealers even start packing up around then. The nice thing is there is a train station on the other side of the parking lot. If you're staying in London you can take the train direct. If you are not coming from London the train is useless before 8 am and it's better to drive in if possible.

When there in early June, it has everything from new mugs to vintage glass bottles to old road signs to bigger trunks and furniture-like items. For printing, it seemed to be mid-range. Some of the vintage bottles were in the ballpark of £10-12, mid-sized trunks and other vintage items were £50-100 (depending on what it was), while some more noteworthy items were several hundred pounds. I definitely recommend taking a look if you like vintage items since its a bit of a treasure trove.

Most of the owners are all pleasingly eccentric, and very knowledgeable of their trade. This shop is deceptively large, it keeps going on into other rooms, and spills out onto the road. Because of the size of this shop, they can get plenty of furniture in here. There are dressers, cabinets, huge mirrors, chandeliers. They also seem to do an interesting selection of iron statues, I saw one that was about 7 foot high. I was particularly interested by the frame dried and preserved butterflies - there was about 50 different types in one cabinet. Crustacean lovers, there was also an exceptionally large preserved crab in one frame. Please, no one get this for me for Christmas.
