The cottage was once a summer kitchen, and sits a stone's throw from the main house. Both buildings are of the same stonework style that Mineral Point is famous for. The cottage sports two bedrooms, a family room, and a small bath. The plumbing is all modern, with great water temp and pressure, as well as central air conditioning. There is a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. Several interesting books and knick-knacks line the shelves, and the main bedroom has a cute little shelf of chocolates. Out back is a little garden and beyond that is the Cabin at Cothren. Both have exclusive parking with direct access to the road. The reservation process was great. We booked online, then the owner (who is very pleasant and sociable) contacted us to arrange payment. She processed our credit card through Paypal. A very easy transaction. Our only comment is that we would have liked to have had a little history of this particular property in a printed form, but I'm certain our hostess would have been more than happy to tell us if we had asked. (I later discovered that there is some historical info on their website.) It should be noted that the whole town rolls up their sidewalks pretty early, so plan ahead if you want to eat out locally. Also, note that although Yelp lists this as a bed and breakfast, it is not.

However, the management is always very friendly, and the prices just can't be beat - around $35 for a single! Compare this to any other hotel in the Mineral Point / Dodgeville area ... you'll be lucky to find any other one for $80 or $90. It's also well-maintained - the rooms are always clean and stocked with towels. The ones I've had all had microwaves and mini-fridges, too. The manager was even kind enough to leave some sheets on the floor by the door on a muddy day in order for our dog to get in the door before we toweled her off. If you don't mind "roughing it" a little - Dairyland Motel is the place to go!

"Back Again" is a respite for the weary traveler and casual guests - radiant floor heat, fireplace, stocked kitchen, whirlpool tub - neatly finished in an expertly restored 1800's log cabin - set in an iconic, rural, Wisconsin wooded lot of 5.5 acres. Check in and check out were hassle free, and as other reviewers have mentioned, we never even saw our hosts during the visit. 5. Jill was responsive to our questions and was able to recommend a nearby area for a scenic walk. Cons 1. The website describes the cabins as private and secluded; however the owner's residence and cabins are all within 100 yards of each other, so the feeling of privacy was limited to the interior of our cabin. Cabin Life is also quite close to the road, so traffic noise could be heard even while inside. 2. The website advertises a "continental deluxe breakfast" delivered to the door of Cabin Life each morning by "the breakfast fairy". While the breakfast fairy did exist, and delivered on time, we did not feel that the contents of one small fruit tart, 2 banana muffins, and a scant palm-full of raspberries were up to par with our expectations from the website description. We chose to dine at the Country Kitchen in Platteville instead, which had good food and pleasant service. 3. Hair conditioner was not included with the bath products provided, which resulted in our evening being interrupted by an unplanned half hour round trip to the Platteville drug store.

Our room, called "The Secret Hideaway," was tucked away on the lower level with two entryways, one leading out to a spacious patio. The room itself had a couple full beds and a futon. The bathroom is good sized with a nice shower. There is a TV we never turned on, but I'm confident it would work if anyone required screen time (I did not). There are dehumidifiers, fans and other devices that made the room extremely comfortable despite temperatures in the 90's while we were there. Your hosts, Elise and Kevin, are welcoming and give you a quick "lay of the land" upon arrival. There is a refrigerator for you to store your refreshments, but they provide wonderful baked goods, lemonade, iced tea (we came for Labor Day weekend) and other items in the small community kitchenette. There are plenty of comfortable sofas, chairs and other amenities that have been thoughtfully laid out for guests who are just relaxing on site. You'll see Kevin around the property during the day, and busily feeding guest at breakfast as he is the main chef. Elise greets you, shows you around, and introduces you to the ensemble cast of animals such as the family dog, chickens, and hummingbirds. Almost immediately, you feel welcomed. As you can see from the pictures, the food is as visually appealing as it is appetizing. Fresh fruit, vegetables grown on site and eggs from the resident chickens combine for a great meal to start your day. Everything was delicious and you are served at your table with plenty of coffee and juice available. Outstanding! If you are going to American Players Theater for shows, checking out the local art and music scene, taking in the beauty of southwestern Wisconsin, or checking out the home and inspiration of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Silver Star Bed and Breskfast Inn is a excellent choice for your lodging needs.

You cant take the sidewalks or take the trail behind the motel to get to just about anything in either direction. I mentioned that we were coming to hunt down the trolls and Kari left me a guide with a map in my room. Kari and Mike are great hosts! Friendly, helpful and informative, and very responsive to any question or concern. Keyless entry is great and worked great also. My only disappointment was the TV service in my room. I had local, which is not bad as I was not there to watch TV, but most channels were not clear a lot of the time, it became pixelated.
