Angela is the best at cutting men's, women's and children's hair. My son has gone to her several times and always comes back with his hair looking amazing. We all love how well his hair looks that his girlfriend booked an appointment for her hair today (which turned out beautiful as well). While we were there, my daughter connected with Angela and asked her to cut her hair too. My daughter has been reluctant to have anyone cut her hair in the past, so she had never had a hair cut before. Angela did a great job and made her feel so special and pampered. My husband has been going here for 12 years and the service is always fair nothing great but not terrible. He will not be going back because the prices are crazy now. It has always been a good price for a haircut, but last week the price jumped over $10 to $23. For that price he can go to anywhere and not have to listen to the unwanted conversations going on here. read more

Thanks for proving me right- you handled this just as poorly as I expected. Two responses, contradicting yourself. One thing you're right about-we should we patient with children in mind. My 5 year old was amazing considering how long we waited. I also see the fundamental lessons he learned in kindergarten have come in handy. 1.) always wait your turn 2.) never take cuts 3.) walk away when someone is being unreasonable. This is my barbershop, I don't care how long the wait is. There is always interesting and uplifting conversation to be had with the friendly staff and local customers. I took my son there for his first haircut and it was really nice, Angela gave us a baby's first haircut certificate and I look forward to getting our haircuts together for years to come. The prices are very reasonable and yes there is a charge for paying with plastic so bring cash, or pay a little extra for the convenience. There are toys for kids to play with while you wait, there is no T.V. playing questionable material that you have to worry about your kids seeing. Anyway I'll see you there. read more

Drive by this place twice a day, once going to work and then again on my way home. I'd be getting my hair cut by some gentleman at an overpriced barber shop in Tacoma and while I was generally happy with my cuts when I left, I always felt like I wasn't cool enough to be there. Kinda like being in a tattoo shop with that arrogance hanging in the air. So after getting off work early one day, I decided to swing by and give this place a shot. There was a guy working (he and two other ladies do the cuts) and in the middle of finishing someone up. I waited about 10 minutes before stepping up to the place. I didn't have anything in mind, style wise, but we came to an agreement and he started hacking away at the mop I had accumulated. It felt like he spent a little longer than normal on my hair, but he was super friendly, had great stories and I felt like a friend in this tiny shop. It's been in Puyallup forever and I like that. I haven't been back since, but I will try again for sure. I think after tip I was out 16 or 17 bucks, which was a few bucks cheaper than the Tacoma shop and this place is 3 blocks from my house. I started going to Maplewood Barber shop about a year ago. First, the shops pristine clean interior has all of its original cabinets and sinks from 1927 surrounded by ceiling shelves filled with a great collection of antique and vintage barber collectibles. It couldn't be more welcoming. But what really makes this place exceptional are the Barbers: Melissa and Angela. They really know their way around a noggin. I've got terrible hair - thinning, stick straight, no body, loaded with cowlicks, and it grows in a circle. But no more bad hair for me. Angela won't dismiss me from her chair till I look GREAT. I have to wait my turn - usually 20 minutes or so but I've waited an hour a time or two. It's worth it and the conversation and neighborly connection is priceless. It's a slice of Mayberry right around the corner. No glitz. No glam. No corporate shtick. Just a relaxing, satisfying experience and an exceptional haircut. Every time. read more
