Each time we encountered staff (from the reservation phone call to check-in to a stop in the office for ice) they were friendly. The campground itself is pretty small and seems to be new. There isn't a lot of shade or privacy here but once the trees fill in, they'll offer more cover. There is a small office onsite that opens at 8a and offers snacks, ice and firewood for purchase. There is also complimentary coffee which was nice. We were told there was a cell phone booster at the office but we had a REALLY hard time getting service, even with that. One-stall bathrooms are available and they were insanely clean (and air conditioned!). Showers are available (a $2 donation is requested) but when my husband went to use them Sunday morning they were either closed or someone was hogging them for over 20 minutes . This was before the 8a office open time so it's possible they were just closed. There is a man-made water pond with inflatables for the kids. We don't have children ourselves so we stayed pretty clear of that and the nearby playground. Yard games are offered for guests as well but we didn't use them. They have an area for "dog exercise" but it's not that big and it's very close to other campsites - not totally sure what the purpose is but it's a nice gesture. The campground was very quiet when we were there - not even half full. Between the heat and being the weekend before the 4th, I'm sure that had something to do with it. We did notice they had a handful of permanent sites here. We would definitely camp here again.

Another friend had their car rammed by an employees golf cart after they were leaving without stopping at the closed entry point. They were only in the camping area for 5 minutes to gather belongings and didn't have a permit. They refused to pay $5 per person to pick up the gear so the person just rammed the car. The police visited and stated it was an accident and was not enough damage to lay charges.

But stay somewhere else. I would suggest Lake Dubay County Park about 2 miles up from here actually on Lake Dubay. Very nice campground with all amenities. Now, Back to this campground. First I am not a snobby camper, we have a simple pop up and canoe. We (myself and my husband) Like quiet and easy fishing and relaxing. As we pull in the front of this campground office sign (pictured) is falling over. The office is dirty and outside around the area is very unkept. weeds everywhere and garbage all over. As we were checking in the man was not friendly at all and kept answering the phone while we were checking in it took a good 30 min. We pre booked and paid a week in advance for a 5 days stay. I asked if the fishing was good or had any advice or places to go check out and he laughed. I assumed he was going to say something, but never did. We reserved to rent a boat for the day they want $300 deposit cash only but never mentioned it when we made the reservation.. So we had to go back into town and get cash. The boat was filthy! Missing cup holders dead leaves under everything, carpet was black with mold. All the stairs going to the beach (not much of one btw) were overgrown weeds and dirt, you just slip on them. (Picture) bathroom were filthy when we got their Sunday afternoon. No mirror In the bathroom and the showers are pull metal chains with no hooks to hold them down, hard to shower and pull a chain when your hands are wet. I actually cut my finger in it. nothing to put your stuff (soap, shampoo, washcloth clothing) on. Took good 5 min to get hot water. (Pictures) the out side building had broken windows glass and rotted doors. The horseshoes puts were not taken Care of so we couldn't play. (Picture) the kids playground was the old metal bars rusted out (pictured) the garbage was a graveyard for old grills and mowers. (Pictured) A lot of old Unkept trailers. We were charged $70 a night. Totally not worth it! I am so sad, this place could be awesome, if someone showed they cared about it.

The bar can be a great place to grab a drink or a pizza, or relax on the sprawling deck. They have a community room to host parties. They have a playground, a nice new shower house and plenty of space when they are not hosting a festival. There is quiet time on the lake / campground in the AM and Evenings, an ok boat launch and a nice beach. The campground has permanent sites and those folks ride around on golf carts, but mostly staying to themselves. It seems to be an older crowd and busier on the weekends. Reserving a site is as easy as calling the Wildlife Campground bar. The owners are there if you need something but mostly stick to themselves (unless you have your dog off leash! Be respectful if you bring a dog) Overall it's a quiet place to sit by your fire and relax. I have been to the Bluegrass festival over Labor Day weekend and that is tons of fun (If you want quiet that weekend you will not find it).

In the last several years the new owners Dave and Patty have been up grading the infrastructure of the campgrounds. Just last year they put in new playground equipment. The bar has gotten new bathrooms and electric is being up graded. They have two large events at the campgrounds per year and they are Jack Pine jamboree (a blue grass fest labor day weekend) which can be lots of fun and Twister a Viet Nam vets party with the most moving ceremony to honor the missing in action and prisoner of war (21 and over last full weekend of July). It is a very beautiful place to have a wedding with a small hall off the bar. They have fireworks several times a summer free to all. I really enjoy the campgrounds when we are there normally it is a quite place with many very nice year round campers. The campsites by the bar are shaded and really nice. This is an older campgrounds that is being up graded as much as they can it may take a while but it is happening. It has two older showers in the basement of the bar building but no shower house. The thing I love most here is that the owners are the nicest people i have met in a long time and the rest of the campers are equally nice just great people and very relaxing.

I came here for the first time with my extended family last weekend and have really mixed feelings…read moreabout our stay. The good: staff was friendly and helpful. Prices are competitive. Our campsite was nice and we had a nice view of Bear Lake. The main restrooms were cleaned constantly throughout the day and were well stocked. There's a nice big playground in the middle of the campground that my niece just loved. There were a lot of families there and I get the sense that this could be a place where people just love to come; it certainly seemed that way based off how many people had seasonal sites super decked out. The cons: The sites are all identified with their numbers, but I think they could be a little more clear. Both myself and my in-laws accidently set up in the wrong sites because of the way that we were instructed to drive in; the identification markers were after where our site was. So we had to be one spot over from where we were, but we actually both accidently set up in the sites just after where we should have been. It really wasn't a big deal and clearly it was our own fault, but it could have been more clear. We were excited to maybe play on the mini-golf course, but there was a lot of debris on the greens and the grass all around it really needed to be cut. The decorations around the grounds too look like they could use some TLC. We checked out the (tiny, super tiny) sandy beach area and thought it could have been cleaned up a bit. We went down right away one morning and found garbage on the ground & random dirty beach towels where towels don't belong. Later in the afternoon when we went back down there to see what was going on we saw the same pieces of garbage and towels in the same spots. We thought surely by then someone from the staff would have come cleaned it up. We were looking forward to getting in the water and possibly renting some of the water equipment they had at the campground (which would have been so nice), but we heard from several people there was swimmers itch in the water. What a letdown! Not the campgrounds fault at all, but our experience was less than what it could have been. I think this place has potential to be really fantastic, just needs a little more TLC.
