She ushered me out of the door without ever again mentioning my condition, the seriousness, or recommending a course of action, which is nearly always surgical intervention. Unacceptable. Banu will never get near me again. The rest of the medical staff has been wonderful.

First, here is what I learned: Consensus Health is a New Jersey medical organization with dozens of 'practices' across New Jersey. Two such practices in the Denville/Rockaway area are the 'Skylands Medical groups'. The Skyland Medical Group I sought care from operates as the 'Denville Associates of Internal Medicine.' My experience with this Consensus Health organization focused on gross over-billing for an office visit. This resulted in a time-consuming appeals process, an admission by the organization of a billing mistake, and a partial reduction in the revised bill I received, a new bill which partially addressed their billing mistake. This failure to take adequate responsibility for their mistake and to (in my firm opinion) focus on corporate profit reminded me of the unfair, unethical practices of United Health Care, the largest Health Insurance provider in the U. S. To maximize profit for the a simple office visit I requested, the bill was modified to include a service that was not requested by me and (in my opinion) not provided and not covered by either my Medicare or Anthem Blue Cross insurance. Rather than spend effort on another time-consuming appeals process, I paid the bill before it was sent to their 'collections department'. NOTE: Sometimes a business responds to a critical review by providing a one-sided response with no opportunity for the reviewer to respond. If I feel I'm further mistreated I'll make the effort to respond in more detail, with copies of documents, a voice mail message left on my phone, and more details.

Under his advice and care I have lost weight, improved the dreaded cholesterol numbers and other health issues. He is plain speaking, has a sense humor and has good communication skills. I probed the staff, asking which MD in the practice they use and most preferred Dr Levy. Shhhh. That's our secret.

Pro's * You do not wait in the waiting room for more than 10 minutes - ever. * Typically if you need to see the Dr quickly, you can get a same day appointment. * Dr Collum spends considerable time with you, and appears genuinely interested in understanding why you're there. * Dr Collum explains in great detail why he orders tests, and what they are while further explaining what he believes the diagnosis to be (lab/diagnostic tests he ordered are to substantiate that diagnosis). * Dr Collum is rather dead pan, but not devoid of emotion. The only non-positive is that the office is solid but less stellar- perhaps a typical busy dr.'s office in which the patient doesn't entirely feel like a customer. They also have a technician on premises so blood tests can be administered without having to travel to a separate lab.

At the previous visit with Sheppell we were told the doctor was going to do some research to gather data so we could have an informed discussion regarding her diagnosis of CLL. We left that visit with the doctor's words trailing behind us, "we've got a lot of work to do!". Yes, it just would have been nice if you and your office had actually done the work. After sitting in an empty waiting room for an hour and a half and then in the exam room for another half hour, the nurse enters and obviously has no idea what's going on. No notes in the file from the previous visit, nothing. Ineffectual. My blood begins to boil. 98-year old gets up and goes into the hallway to see where the doctor is. She's tired and thirsty. She's 98-years-old for Pete's sake! The doctor finally appears--lame, sheepish apology ensues. Has little to say other than, yeah, mistakes were made. Sorry. That was the extent of it. No no no, not enough. Where's the commitment to your patients? Where's a concerted effort to make things right? Where's the compassion for her? Dr. Shanley misdiagnosed my mother.... we informed him that we thought she had Alzheimer's and after testing her, he said she did not have dementia. Two years later she was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Also, he sent my mother home with her Alzheimer's medication prescription, but did not write down for her how often she has to take the medication. Do you think she remembered what he told her? His hours are very limited. He does not work on Wednesdays, and we needed to reach him on Friday afternoon and he had already gone home for the day by 2:45 pm. On a positive note, we needed to get my mother in for an emergency visit, and when his office was open on Monday, we were able to schedule an appointment for later that day. We have called Dr. Shanley's office twice to get an update on my mother's latest visit to his office to see what he thinks. He has yet to call us back. It's been two weeks since her visit.
