The produce portion of Versailles' very large food market is impressive, on par with La Boqueria in Barcelona. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any sit-down or countertop restaurants, or it would be dang near perfect. If you're heading to Chateau Versailles, make sure you go on a day that the Marche Notre-Dame is in service. If you can make it to the Chateau early enough, head there first to avoid the lines, then go to the market around lunchtime to pick up a fantastic picnic assortment. If you're feeling up to it, high tail it back over to the Chateau, go to the right side of the gardens, pick up a bike, and have your picnic somewhere secluded and incredibly enjoyable. The walk between the Chateau and market is around 15-20 minutes. If you're like us, you probably didn't make it into Versailles until lunchtime, at which case you'll have to brave the crowds after eating the market food. Fresh produce rules here, and fruits and vegetables abound. Within the halles, there are boucheries and fish mongers ready to hawk their goods. For a hearty meal, the best bet is to pick up a poulet roti from one of the many vendors around. There's also available sides at these places; I suggest finding the one that serves the amazing spicy stewed potatoes. And don't forget the essentials: pain, vin, fromage (bread, wine, cheese) to round out the meal. I guarantee a good time here or your money back.

Wonderful place to see all the plants for sale. Too bad I couldn't take any home to America.

Very nice place in the market square to pick up picnic lunch to have for lunch while in the Palace of Versailles.

The Marche de Versailles take place on Tuesday, Fridays and Sundays from 7am to 1pm. "Farmers" or sellers start installing their "stands" at 3am/4am in the morning every single time. When I live in Versailles, it was our Sunday commitment. Buy your veggies, fruits, fresh eggs, fresh poultry and get your fresh cut flowers at the Marche! Its a great experience if you are a tourist but for us French people its just our day (sundays) where you spend time with your family and buy fresh products for the week Hundreds of sellers, very large amount of choice in product and price. The smell and the colors are just amazing (our Farmer Market here is California or Vegas are a joke). The fruits are so tasty, juicy & colorful. Selection of products depends on the season so for sure you don't have the plastic taste of tomato sometime i experience when you go to Smith, Albertson's or even Sprout or Whole Food. Yes the color is beautiful and shinny but the taste is missing. You pay cash your purchase. Many french people will come with their own "caddie or panier" little stroller to carry their purchase. Very common put your little kid in the back and ride your bicycle. Plenty of spot where you can park your bicycle. I Miss the ambiance and the smell of the Marche. It was my childhood memories Sellers are challenging each other in the funny and kind way screaming to customers their products are fresher than the other. Its just funny to experience it. If you ask they will always have to taste before you buy. Remember in France you buy by the Kilo not pound (so 1 kg is about 2 pounds) In France most of streets parking are free on sundays, NOT in Versailles. The Marche of Versailles is so popular that if you forget to pay your parking, you will for sure get a ticket. GREAT EXPERIENCE if you visit the Chateau de Versailles or Palace of Versailles, the Marche is less than 10 mns walk from it. Also many gastronomic restaurants to enjoy your papilles!!

Both my wife and I supported and bought a few items, etc. So many food options. Fresh produce, meats, flowers, etc. Wineries here representing their vineyards also. All different kinds of merchandise for sale - Thrift items, to "dollar" store items, to custom made jewelry and leather pieces, etc. Ambiance - See all my pictures. This market is HUGE!! Way bigger than I expected. Maybe the biggest market we have been to since arriving in France. Public toilets nearby, my first discovery. I felt like a kid trying to figure it out. FYI - The toilet cleans itself after each use, so be patient. Oh, and I can NOT recommend the urinal... Service - Good. They are here to sell. Price - From inexpensive to expensive. Depends on what you buy, eat, or drink. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success.

My swan song from a disappointing trip in the bird department. Off the eye test, it doesn't get much better. The beautiful sight of tissi's rotating in front of a fire breathing oven, potatoes in the tray below collecting the chicken juices as they fell, had me ready to run around the Bastille plaza yelling "LE MOUVEMENT!!". I thought this was going to be my first high level bird in the City of Light. Much to my chagrin, the one I got was just lukewarm. I was ready for my fingerprints to be fully burned off. There was so much potential here, but as always, I have to judge what's in front of me. If I don't have my integrity I have nothing. It landed at an 8.1/10 on the restaurant scale which is good, but if it was hot it could have been up there with the greats in the rare 9 territory. Unrealized potential is one of the most depressing things in the world. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

To see what the locals eat, drink, do, etc. Decent size market, both indoors and outdoors. Not sure what the relationship is between the Aligre Market and Beauvau Covered Market, but because they are literally next to each other. I feel they were the same/similar market. So this review will reflect that. The products/produce are so fresh and flavorful. Ripe. Meats, seafood, flowers, etc. Everything is so fresh. There is even a "thrift" shop market here?!?! Ambiance - Decent size, both indoor and outdoor. Again, I am connecting the two markets. Service - Good. Price - Reasonable. Expect farmers market prices. I especially loved the prepared meat in the stall near the entrance (they have many prepared items to choose from--I ended up loving the duck foie gras and duck rillette). Also, people were helpful and willing to deal with my poor French :) As another reviewer mentioned, there aren't many (perhaps any) ready-to-way meals. But I wasn't looking for that, and I found the quality to be fantastic.
