WAIT, that is a plain lie: I stopped some non-essential pamper treatments after I learned how much all of these cost here in Switzerland. After having a ceramic / digital perm for many years I have also been partial towards Korean and Japanese hair salons. I was a bit disappointed that a quick google told me that this was not available in Zurich. But I did find this Japanese hair salon so when it was really time to get a trim, I called to get an appointment. I was happy to be given an appointment a few days later after business hours but I was quite hesitant when I arrived and saw the salon, this must have been the most basic salon I've ever been at. However, it was one of the better hair experiences I've ever had. Hirano-san trimmed my hair with great expertise, he gave me some styling tips and most importantly: it looked great afterwards. In addition, I typically do not like to talk to my hair stylist but I found him extremely genuine and I was happy to chat with him. As if it could not get better: the cut was a real steal, it was probably the cheapest of any hairdresser I researched in Zurich. I will certainly go again and I do highly recommend Hirano for anyone wanting a great but no-nonsense haircut.

At home in New York we call it a basic pedicure which is where they soak your feet for five minutes in water, remove your polish, clean the cuticles and polish your toes. The woman did a great job however I could have purchased polish and remover and save myself about 35chf. I paid 45chf for a $10 service.

The lounge area was called the Cocoon and had comfy seats with water and tea and fresh fruits and magazines. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a time crunch after work and didn't really get to fully utilize those facilities for relaxation. The staff is really friendly and able to cater to English-speaking customers. I got the Skin Defense treatment with Nicole Buser. It cost CHF 150 and was one hour of luxurious pampering with facial and neck and shoulder massages, a light milk acid exfoliation, some extraction, and a facial mask. They offer your choice of either hand massage or foot massage while waiting for the mask to dry. I opted for the foot massage, and it was quite nice and hydrating. They use a lot of scented oils and stuff, so the whole treatment was quite aromatic. I think they used rosemary and thyme and menthol or something fresh-smelling. I would say this place is a bit pricey, but it's probably standard for something like this in Zurich. And the splurge was worth it to treat myself to my first facial in 4 years!

I made an appointment (auf Deutsch) through the contact form on the website and got an appointment for a pedicure and eyebrow cleanup for a few days in the future. My appointment was with Lucia, the owner of the salon. She is Czech but has lived in Zurich for a long time. She speaks a little bit of English, and we got along fine in a mix of German and English. The set-up for the pedicure was a bit different than what I am used to. In the US, I usually get a pedicure while sitting in a chair, perhaps in a row with many others. Here, because Lucia is the main (and only?) practitioner and because she does a number of other services, pedicures are performed at the end of a bed (like you might lie on when getting an eyebrow wax). I have to say that this was the most thorough pedicure I've ever received - my feet were like a baby's bottom afterwards and the red polish I picked lasted a long time without chipping. The eyebrow plucking was also very well-done. She also does facials, other waxing, manicures, and massages. Overall, highly recommended for her service and the prices were quite acceptable.

The rooftop pool is an incredible with views of the mountain and snow cap mountain tops, and the city we went for the daytime and stayed to also see the sunset it was remarkable.
