I split my time between the main campus and Glendon College…read more I recently learned that alma mater refers to the educational institution where you completed your undergraduate degree, and not your graduate degree. I have no idea what you call the place where you got your master's degree. If you know, please share. I didn't learn that during my time doing any of my degrees... haha! I recently returned to York to take part in CRAM's inaugural learning sessions that were held at four different universities in Toronto. The panel discussion about Regent Park and the music program for youth was inspiring. The soundpainting was completely unexpected, but mesmerizing to hear, watch, and learn. These learning sessions were free and were held at Vari Hall. Even though it has been ages since I revisited the main campus, which has changed a ton, I got thrown back to when I was an undergraduate student. For this event, only the single-stall, unisex washrooms were available on the main floor of Vari Hall. Considering that there are a decent number of people attending these sessions, there weren't enough washrooms to accommodate everyone. Instead, I walked over to Ross Building (it's connected to Vari Hall), where the women's washroom has six stalls. I am assuming that there are an equal number of stalls for men. It's a knowledge advantage that former and current York students have over folks who are visiting the campus for the first time. There should have been a sign pointing folks to other washroom facilities. The campus has improved a ton since I was an undergraduate. There are far more places to eat. It isn't narrowed down to the old food court and whatever is edible at York Lanes. There is a decent variety of foods, from Thai to East Indian. There's even a Shopsy's! York Lanes also has a Shoppers Drug Mart. When I needed over-the-counter medication or snacks as a student, I had to get some off-campus. When I left at around 10:30 pm, there were a few eateries, Second Cup, and Shoppers all open at York Lanes. Nice! I like the York University subway station. It's modern, pleasing to the eye, and convenient. I used to take two buses to get to to my classes and wished that I had this subway station back in the day. Instead, I ended up learning the art of studying and napping on public transit, which has served me well over the years. I never lived in residence, so my experience is likely different and more positive than those who deem the campus boring. I did an undergraduate degree in computer science and math. I did a number of math classes at Vari Hall and Ross Building. For one of the CRAM sessions, I was in the same lecture hall where I took Linear Algebra parts 1 and 2 one summer. Gone are the desks with pull-out chairs. Instead, stadium seating with moving tray tables have been installed. As technology has evolved, so have the lecterns! The old, basic one in Vari Hall A has been replaced with a massive one with ports and cables. I had a flood of memories the other night. I had a wonderful undergraduate experience at York University. I made decent friendships with both peers and professors. I learned so much about the domains that I majored in as well as the person that I grew to become. York University paid for some of my degree and I am thankful for the finanical help. I have been fortunate to pay it forward now that I am an alumna. After the sessions were over, I took a walk around the Common area. I liked the small arches that were cheerfully lit. The stroll was nice on a warm Spring evening. Upgrades have come a long way. Well done! I need to remind myself to drop by more often. It's nice to reminisce and see all the exciting changes that have happened at my alma mater. The Covid vaccine clinic hosted by North York General Hospital (NYGH) at the Newnham Campus was very well run. There is plenty of free parking out front and the gate keeper informs all patients to wait in the car until 15 minutes prior to appointment for sign in. There are 2 more security guards that confirm you are there for the vaccine and time reserved. Sign in is very fast, provide your health card and drivers licence and within 5 minutes of walk in, you are at the main gym that has the doctors providing the injection. They ask a few questions to ensure you have no underlying health issues before they administer the shot. You are then asked to wait 15 minutes to ensure no adverse reaction before you sign out with another friendly crew that confirms your health card, email and phone number for your digital confirmation and 2nd shot date/ time. The crew here is very friendly and professional. Looking forward to the next call up in 4 months time.

Scam artists. I applied for a computer programming course, I dropped out after 1 week due to…read morescheduling issues and returned the OSAP money. I received a notice more than a year later from OSAP stating that a grant that was given to me is going to turn into a loan. I didn't understand how this could happen since I returned all of the money I was given. I contacted Seneca financial aid office and the person Biju told me they had returned all of the money to OSAP as well and I need to contact NSLSC directly. So I did but was told that Seneca kept a portion of the money. I am now trying to contact Seneca again regarding this issue but they are ignoring my emails. My advice, avoid this school. I've taken courses from multiple schools and this was the most trouble I've ever experienced.

I'm still friends with some of the people I went to school with. The food is good but WAY over priced. I found it odd that there are certain times that male and females can visit each other on the floors but Ive soon come to realize that its a lot better than most other Christian post secondary schools. I was commuting to and from school and I could feel the "christian bubble" Love the events that are put together by the staff and students :)

I totally regret paying almost $2000 for the Flight Attendant "Diploma". The teacher, Caroline, is…read morepretty good and helpful, however, there is really no need for this course to actually get a job in the airline industry. The school is crappy looking, classes are SO small and tight, the tests are somewhat challenging but doing well on them doesn't correlate with landing a job. As soon as I made all my payments, it seemed like I lost the support of the school. All of my marks were not given to me and I was even asked to pick up my diploma as they couldn't mail it to me. I still haven't picked up the USELESS piece of paper. Lucky for me I have a job at the moment which pays me more than I ever would as a Flight Attendant, so I am not worried but I feel for ALL of the women in my class who were told that they would have no problem getting a job after completing the course. They depended on getting a Flight Attendant position for their livelihoods and now are left to vouch for themselves. Most of these women are in their 30s and have husbands and children so it is quite disheartening to see that they cannot find any jobs. The teacher kept repeating "successful" cases where 1 student was able to find a job within a week of graduating. I am sure this had to do with the student's language skills and being at the right place at the right time - AND nothing to do with her stupid IBT diploma. Although it does depend on individual effort, I think the school (like any business) hyped everything up. I graduated a month ago and have not yet received any information on any new jobs. I knew ahead of time and spoke up on my concerns that May is a really bad time for jobs within the airline industry because most people are hired for the summer in February / Early March and the next mass hire is usually in the fall - but the teacher tried to convince me otherwise. I would NOT recommend wasting your time and energy at IBT. Instead, focus on building knowledge of a 2nd or 3rd language, work on your customer service skills, practice mock interviews, speak to people in the industry, apply for jobs at airports and network. Airlines don't need you to have working knowledge of the job because they spend 6-8 weeks training you on EVERYTHING before you start so this information is really not needed. Plus, you learn very basic and general information at IBT, you will still need to re-learn everything for specific airplanes and airlines. I keep in touch with most of these women and none out of 12 girls have landed a job within a month. It may be too soon and the wrong time to apply, but I mean a heads up would be great and why wouldn't IBT plan ahead to make the class graduate in time for when airlines hire?? I have also heard stories from the other girls that right after graduating, there have been a lack of responses to emails, no phone call returns, etc. And don't be pressured by "Oh the classes are getting full very quickly" that is ALL bullshit. I was compelled to make a rash decision because of this. And don't pay attention to the "requirements" portion of the admissions either. The only requirements is that you can understand English, have no criminal record, and have deep pockets. The ONLY pro would be that I met an amazing group of women who I can honestly say I would choose to remain friends with outside of class. Good luck and stay away from IBT everyone! Hopefully this is of use to you, I wish I paid attention before making this stupid and rash decision.

Without being trained in IBT College, I don't know if I would be able to pass the Air Transat's training!
