If you have the time to wait, not a bad out of the way stop with big portions and decent prices. I read some good reviews so we gave it a go. It took them almost 30 minutes to get us our food. This is like a home cooked meal, so maybe that is not too bad if you are not in a hurry. I got the meatloaf. You can get steak, chicken, or fish at about every restaurant like this. For me, I always like to check these kinds of places out by their meatloaf. I mean you can do a lot with meatloaf. Here it was pretty good. It had some unique spice to it that I could not put my finger on get on. I could taste black pepper with something. While I enjoyed it, the more of it I ate, the stinger that flavor was and it was just a tad too much for my liking. The green beans were fine and nothing fancy. The mashed potatoes were really good and the brown gravy was good, but I did not care much for how they tasted together. The potato recipe was really good, but it did not pair well for me. My wife had grilled salmon and loved it. She had a baked sweet potato side, but it was not fully cooked. Overall it was an ok experience in a small town for home cooked meals. The rave reviews plus the suggestions from locals sent us to this out of the way, but worth a trip cafe. We used GPS to navigate here and found it in a residential neighborhood. The gent doing landscaping outside said the ribs on Friday were the best around but for Thursday, try the liver and gizzards... hmmm, I looked up gizzards and passed. Instead I had fried chicken, hot and juicy, with the best-in-the-world coleslaw and fries. Wonderful. My friend had a tenderloin sandwich, which is a misnomer. The meat was 3 times the size of the bread so he used fingers, knife and fork... making yummy noises as he went. We enjoyed the bottomless ice tea ... very good, clearly homemade. We left room for pecan pie ala mode and it arrived still warm. Excellent crust too, rare on this road trip. An easy five star rating and well deserved for this gem of a local find. read more

Ordered carry out family fried chicken dinner. So disappointing, instant mashed potatoes (really?) with a teaspoon of gravy on each of the 4 cups, chicken overcooked and so dry! Cole slaw was ok, Each container was sloppily prepared, food was dripping all over, messy! We've eaten here many times over the years and seems like the last two years we have not been pleased. Extra Extra tasty little gem in Leopold. Extra sweet tea. Extra generous portions. Fried livers looked amazing and wish I had gone that route, but the fried chicken was hot, juicy deliciousness served with a giant sized potato. Steamed veggies are tasty and tried the vegetable soup which had tender beef bites. Sweet potato was tasty and giant size. Tenderloin is giant size too.... Big eats in thier cute little town. This small place is out of the way but well worth the drive when vacationing by the Ohio River. My partner had the ribeye steak. It was cooked to perfection and very tender. I had the seafood platter and while it was a lot of fried food it too was served at a perfect crisp. I live in Indy, but when I am in town a few times a year and the in-laws are looking for suggestion on where to eat I always suggest Marcy's! It's about a 20 minute drive, but so worth it! They have expanded over the years to have more seating which is great! It can get a little busy but now we never have to wait long. We also go pretty early for dinner. I have only ever gotten the livers and gizzards, but it's my favorite! There is no where in Indy where I can get anything near the quality of these. I love the creek fries and get the green beans. What's funny is we all have our normal order. My FIL goes for the fiddler, my MIL for the chicken, and my husband usually the ribs or chicken. And the pie! Marcy's Grill is situated in the quiet little town of Leopold IN, in the middle of the Hoosier national forest. The place looks unassuming from the outside and my expectations were not high during my first visit, but boy have I been proven wrong! I have been there twice now for a Sunday afternoon lunch. During my first time, I had the fried white fish sandwich (fully dressed, with tomato, lettuce, pickle and onion) and I was struck by how good it was. The fish tasted fresh, it looked and tasted homemade. It was perfectly fried, the fish was neither over nor underdone, the crust was light and crispy, the lettuce still had slight crunch, the tartar sauce was very good, everything was just right. A simple sandwich that was done just perfectly. Who says you need a fancy preparation to enjoy a great meal? During our second visit, we noticed they served fried chicken. Normally, I prefer to eat a lighter lunch but our waitress told us it was very good so my buddy and both ordered the fried chicken. He got two pieces of white meat and I got two pieces of dark meat, with mashed potatoes and coleslaw as sides (they have other option for sides too). The fried chicken blew me away! It was fingerlickin' good as they say, the crust was light and crispy, the chicken moist, juicy and oh so tasty. The coleslaw was excellent too, one of the best I have had in a while. They make it fresh and you can tell that when you are tasting it, it was nicely dressed, and there was still a nice little crunch on the slaw. None of that premade slop that comes in tubs. The perfect counterpoint to the fried chicken. The mashed potatoes were excellent too. Foodgasm might be an exaggeration but I came close. The fact that I skipped breakfast that morning probably added to my overwhelming sense of well-being during the consummation of that meal. You know you have had an excellent meal when you feel lucky and privileged while you are eating it. Service was friendly too and prices quite reasonable. Marcy's apparently has been in business for over four decades so they must been doing something right. On their menu they claim to be best kept secret in Southern Indiana and they may very well be right. I will definitely keep coming back there. It is worth the detour from I-64, just to eat at Marcy's. Heck, I live an hour away and I would consider driving over there just to eat that fried chicken again! PS I forgot to ask if they serve the fried chicken every day or if it is only a Sunday thing so you might want to check beforehand. read more

Being from southern Indiana you are basically born knowing what Marcy's is and where it is located. It truly is a staple to everyone within a 60 mile drive of the area. I know you might be thinking 60 miles!? But when the nearest Walmart is 28 miles away you get used to driving for things. Marcy's has been in Leopold for years. Like seriously I'm pretty sure all my life so it's been around for 29 years just operated under different names. They are truly know. For the ribs... they come sweet and spicy or a combination. They are amazing and almost always fall off the bone. If you ask me their best meal is their fried chicken livers. I know they sound gross but they are so yummmmy. As a kid I used to hate them but as an adult my mouth starts watering as I think about them. The restaurant itself is pretty plain and limited seating. They have expanded the seating into the bar area but still if you go after a local football game or church... it's pretty busy and you might have to wait. They still serve soda by the can and they don't have any fancy type of cocktails. They are a small town restaurant and everyone eating there most likely will all know each other. If you find yourself near it, just go and order the chicken livers. You will be happy you did. CHEERS! read more

Fast service. Cold mugs for beer!!! Creek fries are amazing.... worth the time to make a drive.

My parents had eaten here and gave it a good review...so we tried it out. It felt like a scene out of diners, drive-ins, and dives. The dining room was not big but just right...and we were there early (3:45 CT) and they were pretty busy. We ordered the seafood combo, grilled shrimp, pork chop, and cod dinner. All of the food was good and down home cooking. My husband especially liked their sweet tea...he said it was the real deal. Apparently they are known for the creek potatoes (they are just fried potatoes). The portions are very generous. I do have to say I didn't love the onion rings...the batter was a little too sweet for me...but everything else was good. We got peanut butter pie to go...It was homemade and probably the best (or one of the best) I've ever tasted...so don't skip dessert. I think that if we ever need a good home cooked meal...we will venture out here! read more

For a small town diner it was surprisingly good! Dinner for two with an appetizer and one dessert was less than $40. The ribeye steak was not a thick cut, but was cooked perfectly and was a good cut of meat. Tender and not over seasoned. I've paid a lot more money for a lot less! The hamburger steak was also cooked correctly and seasoned just right. Super friendly waitress. Restaurant and restrooms were clean. There's also a bar of your interested. Ten minutes from the interstate and much better food than the chain restaurants along the highway. The gps directions work and it's worth the side trip! Ate lunch here today when visiting hubby's sister closeby. Very local place with a bar as big as the restaurant. Service was very friendly. I had the fried pork sandwich with broasted potatoes. The pork was a huge circle exceeding the bun by inches which I found hilarious. The broasted potatoes was a potato that had been cut into fourths and deep fried. The potatoes were yummy and I couldn't finish them all and the pork was OK but needed salt. Hubby had huge chicken tenders made with real chicken pieces (flattened) with onion rings which were good. Sister in law had a BLT with cole slaw which wasn't on the menu but they were accomodating. Looks like they had alot of yummy desserts but we were stuffed. This is one of the two top restaurants in the southern Indiana region. I have enjoyed dinner here on at least three occasions over the past year and have always been positively impressed. The service is quick and very warm/friendly. The fried chicken dinner is excellent and with the baked sweet potato side is just heavenly! Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. Was at Marcy's last week with four other adults. My "Prime Rib" was NOT really Prime rib. Same cut of beef, but just cooked like a steak. It was ordered medium-rare, and came out medium-WELL. I didn't want the others to wait, so I had them fix me "cod". Don't know what type of fish it really was, but I've never seen cod filets served in the shape of a cube. Probably processed fish of some sort. It was dry and basically tasteless. My wife's salmon had some type of teriyaki sauce on it which was not listed anywhere on the menu. Waitress never asked if she could refill our drinks (water and lemonade). I give it 2 stars only because another member of our party thought the ribs were "OK". read more
