I've been going to Dr. Maria's office since I moved here in 2018 for grad school. I have never felt more understood or comfortable at the dentist; whenever I have questions they explain things to me and alleviate my fears when I have them. They are fast, efficient, and the hygienists and dentists are all very kind. However what puts them above and beyond is what they did for my wife who also goes here - she had horrible dental experiences as a child and it is remarkable how little she fears getting work done by Dr. Vasilakis and her team. They are very understanding and supportive such that despite having to wait for insurance reimbursement (I do not blame them for this insurance companies are bastards) I don't think I'll go anywhere else. read more

Do dentist take Hippocratic oaths? Dr. Maria is the definition of a nepo baby (both her parents were dentist.) She herself rarely would work on my teeth but she had the audacity to not correct the work of her staff for me as she had in the past. I got two fillings done and within 6 months each one fell out leaving holes in my front teeth. This has caused me severe loss in my career which is a client facing role at an investment bank and in my personal life as I am less confident in myself and do not want to show off my smile which is a shame after my parents worked so hard to afford braces for me in high school. In the past she would try and correct the shotty work of one of her employees but at my last appointment (maybe fed up with their short comings or trying to cut costs) she snapped. She insisted the last two fillings only came out because of me needing braces or a bite issue out of nowhere? I have been seeing her for 6+ years and braces was never ever mentioned before but how convenient now all of a sudden it is her excuse to not fix my teeth. In the past she fixed one or two that fell out as they occurred within a year so they were under warranty. My new fillings that fell out were clearly under warranty yet she flat out refused. I am not sure if maybe money is tight for her but the experience has left me traumatized. Her condescending manner may speak to her privilege or she truly lacks empathy for others which given her career choice is frightening. The funny thing is I would forgive her and delete this review if she just agreed to fix my teeth and apologize and I myself would also apologize as I admit I did have a panic attack in the office because she would not listen to me and wanted to get me out of the chair as soon as possible. Maybe she was over booked? I was so stressed because I finally have my appointment and want my front teeth fixed to regain my confidence back and she refuses out of nowhere to fix them and left me with a ridiculous response to get braces that I don't need and can't afford! She would not even review or accept the fact that I already had them. Instead she just talked over me in a condescending manner saying, "not that you don't have pretty teeth but you need braces!" Bottom line is both of these fillings should be under warranty since it has been less than a year since her office did them. Her immaturity was displayed when a day or two later she immediately mailed me a letter first class so I would have to go sign for at the post office only to just send a generic blank form she could have emailed to release my medical records to a new dentist. If she had any empathy at all she would have realized of course I do not have a new dentist yet, I am very deeply traumatized from that and depressed when I look in the mirror at the holes her employee drilled and did not fill in my front teeth. He also forgot to seal the fillings with the heat lamp process they always do after so I think that's why mine fell out right away. She then brought a terrified assistant who is a sweet lady I have always had a good rapport with into the room to ask if the heat sealing process was completed which of course she said yes in a shaky voice. I gave her an understanding look since I know she just is trying to keep her job but it was very uncomfortable and tacky to do to a women of color. Then I asked if they had cameras and she looked terrified until Dr. Maria said they don't in that area. Figures, seems fishy to me. I can't stress this enough she will make your teeth worse and make you cry. Run! read more

Recently had my teeth cleaned here, and I would stay away if I were you! 1). Very bad service, teeth not cleaned, I can still see stain between my teeth. My previous dentist in California, she cleaned tooth by tooth, and trust me, my tongue could felt the difference. 2). They will push you to do a detailed x-ray. They don't care about you being exposed to radiation, all they care is money. Which leads to my final point. 3). They will over charge you! This has to be the most expensive teeth cleaning for me, ever! Total $200+. They will give you a low estimate first, then they will send you another bill after. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! All other reviews are done by their employees! To be fair, I have to say, they did serve me with a smile on their face the whole time! I had such a wonderful first experience at Dr. Vasilakis' office and am thrilled to continue a lasting relationship there. Let's start with the front office. Appointments are easy to schedule, they even double checked my insurance coverage, and printed out estimates for the work I needed done based on estimates of my insurance benefits. For me, that was above and beyond. I can't tell you how many times offices were so reluctant to give me any type of estimate on potential work when I asked. Or they were extremely cautious, making sure I understood it was just an estimate and might not even be very meaningful due to insurance fluctuations. My hygienist - yes, I have my own hygienist which will see me through my bi-yearly appointments. Jaymi-Lyn was so informative and gentle. I loved that she talked me through every single step of what she's checking for, what this equipment does, and what I can check for myself at home. I also ask a lot of questions so I was glad at not only how patient she was, but how thorough her answers were. It feels wonderful to know I can continue to email her with questions that may arise before my next appointment. Dr. Vasilakis - she was equally as gentle and warm as the rest of the staff. She listened to my concerns, my issues in the past, and how I wanted to proceed in the future with her. I'm so relieved to have the future of my tooth health in the hands of this wonderful office! read more

Went in for the first time for a cleaning last week, on a friend's recommendation - and very happy I did! The tech was super efficient and effective for the cleaning and x-rays, and the office was very helpful in working with my dental insurance. The best part was when I had to get a (non-urgent) filling, and mentioned that my insurance would be running out in early October: Dr. Maria made time that day to quickly fill it, and I was on my way! ONLY GO FOR CLEANINGS - DO NOT GET THE SURGERY. - My previous dentist says tooth is OK, notes there is a stain, but it is fine as it is not a cavity. - Vasilakis says I need to pull the tooth - recommends her husband or relative as they are an oral surgeon. (at least that was the impression I got, that it was a close relation.) I mentioned that the same spot had been OKed by my previous dentist. Vaskilakis tells me - 'well, it is in a hard to work on area, it should be pulled because we can't get back there.' - Second opinion from another dentist that same week = tooth is fine. - Third opinion a year later from different dentist = tooth is fine. Other than recommending a totally wacky tooth pulling operation the appointment was great. The hygienists are really thorough and the booking/reception folks are also on the ball. Just watch out for those pesky irreversible oral surgery procedure recommendations you may get. read more

Everyone here is at the same time super professional and super personable and friendly! I had never enjoyed going to the dentist so much! On top of being an awesome staff they are very thorough in following up issues, have top of the line technology. From the little things to the medical elements. In the little things for example you have the fact that they have a texting and email system to remind you if you want to. They have a Keurig coffee maker while you wait, and the dentist chair has an option for a massage, which is amazing!!!!!! On the medical side they have also top of the line technology, and are all very professional and knowledgable. Not only that, they keep you in the loop as to what is going on with your own health. I've been o other dentists that don't tell you but the minimum because they have so many patients. They don't only care to treat problems with your oral health, they care to prevent problems. To give you an example: The other day after looking at an initial x-ray (which is digitalized, not printed) they took this laser pen that checks on the thickness of my enamel (I had never seen a dentist use this before). It turns out that one of my teeth seemed somewhat weak, but not quite damaged. So, they suggested that my tooth might be at risk, but that it was easy to fix changing some practices. They suggested as a preventive measure to change toothpaste, and proposed to check on it again next time. It turns out my tooth was fine the next time I came in. So, top of the line technology allowed for prevention, their professional standards allowed them to follow up, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. The whole time I was enjoying it so much, before I even got there I got a text reminder, when I got there I got a little Keurig coffee, when they were treating me I got a massage from the chair, and when I left they made sure I had my next appointment ready, and said good bye to me with a big smile!!!! read more

Extremely friendly, professional, intelligent & informed staff here. I had my first cleaning there recently, and I feel extremely comfortable returning there for any service that I need. They warned me of a few precursors to cavities that they found on my x-rays, but said that good habits and regular cleanings would arrest their growth - they could have told me to fill them right there. The focus on preventative measures assures me that they are really working for me and my health rather than pushing unneeded services. read more

I live right across the street from Dr. Vasilakis, but for some reason the idea of a dentist in a split level house had me turned off. That is probably just an unfair bias from living in the area/city for too long and knowing how landlords are about upkeep with their properties. Well i have to say, i am sorry i did not put my biases aside sooner because i was more than pleased with my services from this office. First of all, the idea of going to the dentist stresses me out. I had a very bad experience with my previous dentist and had not been in three years and i am a bit skeptical of the dental industry and the quality or service vs. the fees they charge. Secondly, i have "weird" insurance (aka anything besides delta or blue cross dental) and placed several phone calls to area dentist to see if they accepted it, i was met with a no, confusion, or no help what-so-ever. The person who i spoke to on the phone at Dr. Vasilakis' office was very helpful with explaining to me that they did accept my insurance, but they were out of network. I was not sure what that entailed or how it would effect me and they explained it all out for me. This was my deciding factor in booking an appointment. When i arrived at the office the receptionist was very friendly and the office was quite modern and clean. I was promptly brought into my room for x-rays and a cleaning. My hygienist, Jamie-Lynn (sp?) was great. She was very friendly and easy to talk to and made me feel relaxed. Also - the fact that the chairs have a built in massager did not hurt either. She took the time to go over my e-rays with me, as well as explaining everything she was doing. She was also very knowledgeable with the questions that i had about some issues i have going on. I also received the least stressful and painless cleaning ever! The Doctor came in and greeted me and was very friendly. She went over some areas of concern and a treatment plan, while explaining each procedure, why i needed it, and what it entailed. Nothing was pushed on me and it was a very easy experience overall. It was also nice to have a younger female doctor in a sea of what seems like a profession filled with 70 year old men with nose hairs and antiquated teachings. I was also pleased to hear about her and Jamie-Lynn's (sp?) humanitarian efforts in Honduras, if i remember correctly. I would recommend Dr. Vasilakis to anyone in the area for a relaxed and professional dental environment! Glad i found them! read more

After moving up to Boston, I was completely bummed that I had to find a new dentist. I happened upon this office based on the yelp reviews and I am very grateful. Everyone from the receptionists up to Maria is friendly and professional. I have been here three times now, two cleanings and a cavity. The atmosphere is very relaxed and Maria fully explains everything before proceeding. In addition, she is not pushy when it comes to additional services. She suggested that I get a mouth guard, but didn't hound me like a used car salesman. Also, when we discussed teeth whitening, she said I could use Crest white strips if I had more time and didn't want to spend as much. I recently moved to Southie, but keep coming back here because this is a dentist you keep for as long as you stay in Boston. read more

Before you arrive they send you a text to confirm your appointment a week in advance, you reply C to confirm, and then they send you a reminder text the day of the appointment. So, there's no way you will miss your appointment. Then you arrive and they have a Keurig Coffee while you wait. Then you seat at the dentist chair, and the chair has a massaging system!!! I am not kidding. Also their X-rays are digitalized and you can see them on a computer screen. They also have this cool little laser that measures the thickness of the inside of your teeth, so you can catch a problem way before it shows up. This would give any place at least 5 stars, but then there's the people. Everyone here is incredibly nice and personable, big smiles and friendly people, yet very professional. I've moved a lot in the last 10 years. So, I've had about 5 different dentists in my life, most of them excellent places, but I can safely say this is THE best dentist and dentist experience I've had so far. read more

Easily the very best experience I've ever had at the dentist. Dr. Maria was incredibly knowledgeable and also so gentle and warm and compassionate. She went above and beyond her call and was patient explaining exactly what is involved in each procedure and thoroughly walked me through each of my options. I never thought one of my first Yelp reviews would be for a dentist office- but I had SUCH a pleasant experience. The front desk staff was super sweet, offered tea, and made the process smooth. Jamie was AWESOME- she explained everything as she taking x-rays and cleaning my teeth, and made me feel at ease (the first time I have felt like that at the dentist). She discussed whitening options with me without pushing expensive treatments. Transparency is something I value in medical situations, and Dr. Maria's team is great about it. I love Yelp, and use it all the time- but this is the first time I am writing my own review because I wanted to share the great experience I had at this dentist... Yes, the dentist! I chose Dr. Maria based off location and Yelp reviews. The receptionists were beyond friendly on the phone and in person. My hygienist was so professional and calm- she explained everything she was doing, and took the time to really go over my x-rays. I couldn't believe when she was done cleaning my teeth, because it was so painless! Dr. Maria also had a great personality, and was very knowledgable and helpful. Besides friendly staff, the chairs had massagers in them which was a great surprise... And at the end my hygienist brought in a damp hot towel to clean my face. I was shocked- little things make a big difference in making a generally un-enjoyable experience shockingly pleasant. To top it off, they send email and text reminders if you want them which is super convenient. It was so exciting to find this gem! read more

After switching dental offices, I finally found a good one.

I've been seeing Dr. Maria for about 4 years. It's hard to find a good dentist, and I feel lucky to have found her. I get nervous at the dentist in general and she's very good at explaining what is being done and answering questions to ease my nerves. She's never pushy about having anything done that isn't necessary and even offers suggestions to help keep me out of the dentist office. Despite my hardest efforts, I've always had cavity prone teeth and she was the first to suggest a Ph balancing mouthwash, which has worked wonders. Dr.V is amazing! I have never ever had a less than highly satisfying experience. I get so excited to come in for my cleaning. The music, the lighting, the photographs... Most of all, the wonderful people who work there. Dr.Maria herself is wonderful! So professional and nice. I don't know if Jamie still works there (I think that's her name) but she was great. The office and examination rooms or sparklingly clean and some of the chairs massage. So lovely. It's right on the 57 bus and parking is pretty readily available on street. The 86 bus also goes right down the street so those in Cambridge have no excuse! They have an amazing referral system, too. I haven't paid for a cleaning in a while because I just keep referring new patients to them. I will continue to see her even after I move away from the city, I'm sure. read more

First off I'd like to start by saying the front desk staff was wonderful! They helped me figure out my insurance issues nicely and were extremely helpful. My hygienist (Betty) was fantastic. I hadn't been to the dentist in quite a while and was very nervous about having my teeth looked at. She was kind and gentle and made sure to make me feel comfortable. Though I only met Dr. Kreemer for a brief time she was sweet and also made me feel really comfortable. I visited Dr. Vasilakis yesterday for the first time with my 3 year old and 5 year old. I was very impressed with the office, it was so clean! Both Dr. Vasilakis and the hygienist were excellent and really impressed me with their interaction with the kids. The kids never made a fuss at all and the hygienist did an excellent job keeping them occupied while she cleaned their teeth. Dr. Vasilakis was very knowledgable. Our family has been going to Dr Maria for years - great office and staff, and by far the best dentist I've ever been to.

I had a great experience here. I have extremely sensitive teeth that required three gum grafting procedures. Anyone with this issue knows that cleanings can be excruciating. Dr. Maria was the one who finally caught this issue and referred me to a periodontist to have it taken care of. I continued to see Betty and Dr. Maria for my cleanings for years afterwards. I can't speak highly enough of Betty - she was so very considerate of my sensitivity. The last cleaning I had was painless - this was the first time in 5 years! I would highly recommend this practice. On a practical note, parking is pretty easy, for a city dentist - and I really appreciated that they have early morning and evening appointments - you don't have to rush from or miss work. read more

I do not know why there are not more reviews on Yelp for Dr. Maria. This is an excellent dental office with informative and professional dentists and staff. Dr. Maria is great and extremely helpful and thorough. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and efficient; and the oral hygienists are also very nice and professional. I used to hate going to the dentist's, even for cleanings, but now that I have found this office, I don't hesitate anymore. I had tooth pain recently, and they were able to squeeze me in that same week. Don't let the fact that the office is on the first floor of a two-family house fool you. The office is very clean and the dental equipment seems to be up to date (however, I don't know anything about dental equipment, so I may be wrong), but the examination rooms have massage chairs and are clean. The waiting room is excellent with water, a Keurig machine, all sorts of magazines, books for the kids, great interior decor. The most horrible experience I have ever experienced in my life. I called, because I was interested in going to a dentist that uses BPA free white fillings, and I got the most rude "office manager" in the world. I was going to spend thousands of dollars there over time but I am never going there! I called, and some lady answers the phone. I politely ask her if I can speak with Dr. Vasilakis and she refuses to let me speak with her, instead insisting that I should address her. I start asking her about BPA in while fillings, and whether the dentist could remove the white fillings I had on my teeth previously and put BPA free ones. As I am explaining (maybe 30 seconds elapsed) all of a sudden I hear a different female voice on the phone asking me what I'm talking about. Yes, she gave the phone to the "office manager" without even telling me. I repeat myself to this manager, and I ask her for a price. She says she does not have the numbers in front of her, but she could call me back. I ask her to call me back with the best price, and that somehow struck a nerve inside her. She says "well, the prices are going up after January, so I can call you after the prices go up to give you a higher price". Seriously, what a disgusting, pathetic excuse for a human being, I would rather go to a business where the office staff don't mock me. read more
