If Mariachi's is a 5 star restaurant, then Taco Bell is the next coming of Christ himself. This is far from authentic Mexican, and far from decent food, sub-par but, just barely. I was really excited about trying this place, after a stupid week and so far a stupid weekend. But usually, as my life goes, the days only get worse, they never get better. Some of the past reviewers had recommended the chicken enchilada's, which I was excited to try. It's still sitting in my stomach as I type, and I ate here several hours ago. Bathrooms are clean, which was good. I sat down and was served what would be considered nacho chips, but they had no flavor, and the green soup salsa served was awful. I named it the green diarrhea sensation. No taste, just green soup with a different hot sauces dumped in. Next came the homemade soup, which saved this place from a 1 star review. It sure didn't beat campbell's but it was edible. The enchiladas arrived and were swimming in sour cream. I didn't really taste any cheese, but the sour cream over-powered everything. Rice and beans were not that flavorful. My waitress wasn't very pleasant. I didn't even get a thank you for coming here. Why would I return? It was dead for a Saturday night and I was the only one in the restaurant. In fact, the Phoenix Diner looked like a football stadium compared to Mariachi's. Expensive as well, $20, for an enchilada and drink. Definitely would not return. read more

This is not a Mexican restaurant. If you enjoy canned beans, microwaved rice, cheap meat and welted tastelessly prepared vegetables, this place is a great spot. People who are not familiar with Mexican cuisines and cooking methods give this place a high rating because they never had great Mexican food before. In addition, the service was very slow. The price is very high considering the quality. The server was nice, however that would not make up for canned and microwaved foods on their menu. One more thing: the restaurant uses those plug-in air fresheners that are mostly used in rest rooms. While waiting for the food to come out, as well as dining, the aroma of perfumed oil that reminds you of the rest room really does not help. The restaurant needs to look into its business model to improve the environment, quality of foods it serves and the price it charges. read more

Yum! What a tasty surprise! My boyfriend and I were looking for a place close by for dinner while vacationing in Brigantine/AC. I saw the reviews for this place and we decided to give it a try. This is a small corner restaurant down a side street that feels more like your eating in someone's home rather than a restaurant. It's small, maybe 7-8 tables total. The tables and decor are minimal and homey. The room was packed and had only one, busy, soft spoken, super sweet woman serving all tables. The fresh tortillas and salsa served when you sit down we're tasty. We ordered the guacamole and were not impressed. Very smooth, kinda like bright green baby food. I prefer my guacamole chunky. My boyfriend ordered a carnitas burrito which came with rice and beans. He asked for it extra spicy. He said the carnitas were very flavorful. The burrito as a whole was very spicy with the addition of fresh sliced jalapeños throughout. He appreciated that the carnitas and other bits that made up the filling were well distributed throughout the entire burrito. I'm a vegetarian and asked if the beans had any meat base or seasoning at all. I was assured there was no meat. I ordered the bean and cheese chimichanga. It was wonderful! It was crispy but light. Not heavy or greasy AT ALL. The beans were flavorful and homey feeling, not like the slop a Mexican chain restaurant serves. For the two main dishes, a side of guacamole and two Mexican sodas, it came out to $30! Great food for a great price. We only wished we lived closer so we could come back more often! read more

I was looking for a local Mexican restaurant in Galloway and stumbled upon Mariachis. There wasn't a soul in there when I walked in. I was greeted by a quiet lady. The menu is extensive. I'm indecisive and it took me a while to decide what to eat. I asked the lady for some recommendations.......couldn't give me any. I seen Horchata on the menu and got excited. I love horchata! I settled for the chicken chimichanga to go. MASSIVE. It came with yellow rice and pinto beans and THE BEST FREAKING CHIPS AND SALSA. Those chips tasted like they were made right there on the spot. The salsa was tasty. The horchata was good as well. Chimichanga got soggy after a little bit but it's to be expected. Needless to say it's not my favorite spot but enough for a quick fix. I have to respond to the Lucas T review. It is vicious and inaccurate. He clearly is not writing about the Mariachi's at 200 New Jersey ave. or he has an ulterior motive. Please see my previous review of this place. I have been eating here for over a year maybe once a month. I love authentic Mexican and this is what is served here. As to service, the very sweet waitress knows me as I come in with a cooler of three small beers that I like served on ice, within moments, without words, I have a menu and a glass of ice sitting in front of me. There is no chance that Lucas was served by this young lady, Also $20 for a drink and enchilada is an error. I recall the enchiladas were $11, and could easily feed 2 people, too rich for you? On our way home from Atlantic City I was in the mood for Mexican so I looked up local places and found this one. It's small, like many good Mexican places, and there was no one in there. Of course, this was about 5:30 on a Tuesday evening so I won't judge. The waitress was very sweet & happy. Though it wasn't on the menu specifically, I ordered a cheese enchilada w/ green sauce (tomatillo I assume). The food was delicious. My only complaint is that I prefer black beans and they only have refried. I still ate them and they were actually quite good too. I don't recall what my fiance had but I know he loved it. This place is totally about the food, not about the decor. I'm okay with that. Some of the best meals you can have are in places like this. This is a secret gem of Absecon for sure! I always recommend the chicken enchiladas in the green sauce. Absolutely delish. We had just had a bad experience at a local Mexican restaurant. So it was especially nice to get great Mexican food and service. And the chips were fresh. We had high hopes for this place. We placed our order to go. My mom had the chicken tacos. They were bland. My sister had the beef tacos, again they were bland. It was as if they added no seasoning at all, just cilantro. The menu said chicken or beef, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream under tacos. They came with none of that. Both of those orders were a complete waste of money. Why have it on the menu and not provide it. I will say that my Chimichanga was good. This is the only reason for 2 stars. The rice and beans (pinto) was just ok. I added pico de gallo and sour cream (paid $5 for this) to my rice to give it flavor. read more
