This has been a very confusing and disappointing experience with Dr. McKanna's office…read more I went to him with severe plantar fasciitis and inflammation in my heel that made it almost impossible to walk. After several discouraging visits with other doctors, I had nearly given up on finding real help. My daughter encouraged me to try again, and we found Dr. McKanna. At first, I was genuinely impressed. He seemed caring, knowledgeable, and truly interested in solving the problem rather than just treating symptoms. The steroid injection he gave was painful but effective, and I appreciated that he connected possible back issues to my foot pain and ordered an MRI. For the first time, I felt hopeful that I had found a doctor who cared. Unfortunately, that hope quickly faded. I scheduled a Saturday appointment to go over my MRI results, confirmed the time, and drove over an hour to his office--only to find it closed. When I called, the staff told me Dr. McKanna was at his other office that day. As a new patient, I had never been told he had more than one location. I offered to drive to the other office, but was told he was busy and leaving early. They said he would call me at 1:00 p.m. He called at 1:30, but I missed the call due to poor signal. I immediately called back and left a message asking for a return call. I never heard back. I followed up again on Monday, calling multiple times to ask for my MRI results--still no response. At this point, I'm left with an unread MRI disc and no guidance from the doctor or his staff. It's very frustrating to go from feeling hopeful to feeling completely ignored. I want to believe this isn't a reflection of Dr. McKanna himself--he seemed like a good, caring doctor--but the communication and follow-up from his office have been deeply disappointing. If you go to Dr. McKanna, make sure to confirm which office your appointment is at and be prepared for possible issues with communication. I sincerely hope he sees this review and takes steps to improve how patients are treated and followed up with.

#1...never take negative reviews seriously. Those who love to slam are generally unhappy in life. I…read morepersonally fear having anyone touch my feet. Starting with the office, the building has stairs AND a ramp. Tada. The whole interior of what I saw was modern and clean. The staff prior to the doctor were very pleasant and felt like I was talking to a daughter. When Dr. Schlund came in, being the honest guy (and retired Massage Therapist) we chatted very briefly about lousy reviews. I did most of the talking. She was extremely pleasant to talk with. She has a great sense of humour. Being in the field for almost 40 years (I don't know how that can be after all as Jack Benny said...he was 39), she reminds me of the good ole days of non political correctness BUT as a professional, I know she can read a client and adjust. As I did with my clients when I worked, we talked about extensively about my medical history, and she hit the nail on the head of one of the most obvious cause for my condition. I brought up about removing the nail and she concurred it is an option after giving it a couple of months of treatment (nothing expensive). I have given thought to removing all my nails. What do we need them for anyway now? We don't climb trees or hold our food with our feet. That may be a bit extreme. We laughed, and joked. As when I was a therapist I was told thousands of times I was the best not only from Americans, but from world travelers. So, I am highly qualified to say, this IS a doctor you want if you live in the area of Itasca. Ignore the naysayers there are so many of them. Just imagine, if they can complain about a foot situation, what will they scream about after open heart surgery?

What's as impressive is his bed side manner. Kind, attentive, patient, (NO rushing thru the visit), always pleasant, sincerely interested in the patient's care & needs, approachable. This is a lost art form in medicine these days, but NOT with Dr. Palmieri. Always there for his patients. His staff & entire office & associated are also very caring. He was the most amazing man with a great bedside manner & a great dr. I then needed a bonion on my right foot removed. He was the nicest and answered any questions i had took xrays and helped me through a painful procedure. I can not speak high enough about him. He is so caring and straightforward, I love everyone in the office. It is never a long wait & if your early they get you in and out quickly. I know I can only give him 5 stars but my opinion is if I could give him a million I would. I am very picky about my dr's but, from the beginning he made me comfortable & I trust him very much. Again he & the office are one of the best dr's i have seen. Please dont look any farther for any other dr. He is amazing. I cant thank him enough for all he has done for me. He can never retire in my eyes. Sincerely Lori Myers

After both procedures I walked out without any pain, crutches or issues. Everyone I met (from the receptionist, nurses, doctors, etc) were all very professional and friendly, although Samantha Sklar was my favorite! I had no insurance issues as I was told up front what my insurance covered and what portion I would have to pay depending on my deductible. I would highly recommend Foot First to anyone needing a bunionectomy or any type of toe shortening surgery. 4-22-19 Update: For those that have asked, it's been three years later and I am still happy with my results and the surgery. Every years that goes by my feet look prettier and prettier. The only complication was me having to go back to get one my screws removed on one foot bc it was bothering me. They decided I injured my rotator cuff and scheduled physical therapy. Barrington Orthopedics has several offices around the NW Suburbs. I see my doctor in Hoffman Estates, but chose their office in Elk Grove for the therapy since it is near my office. The building is older and not very much like their state of the art facility in Hoffman Estates. Frankly, though, I don't care about the looks of the building as much as how they can help. I go two days a week and see two different therapists. Both are very nice. Both seem quite capable. But, each has their own style. So, while one focuses on strengthening certain muscles, the other determined the problem is cause by posture - I slouch. So, I don't really know what the issue is, and the therapists can't seem to agree or coordinate themselves. With each of them, I feel better when I leave. I think I'm going to have to talk to them about using only one therapist and sticking with one type of therapy.

He failed the second fix-it surgery too. I could not walk after 8 weeks in a cast. Dr Luke is very incompetent and stay far far away from him. I am SUFFERING greatly and have to take antibiotics for the rest of my life because somehow he introduced a serious staph infection into my body.
